The Birthday RAK is looking for a few more members
Thanks for stopping and reading this; now we can use your help!
We just completed checking all of the BRAK Volunteers--Birthday Random Acts of Kindness--to see if they are still active. We had about 20 members drop out and a few never replied, so I guess they have also dropped. ;)
That means we will not have enough volunteers to send a card to each of the RAK members on their birthday (each RAK member is assigned to two different volunteers and should get two birthday cards)
Do you have extra birthday cards?
Do you like to put a smile on the face of a birthday girl?
Do you like to have a "reason" to make and send out cards?
Do you love being a member of the RAK group (or want to join) and want to expand your kindness?
If you answer yes to any of these, please stop by the BRAK sub-foum to get more information. You do need to be a RAK member to access the RAK forum and the BRAK threads. If you are not a RAK member, click on the "Join a Group" tab on the left and you can get more information there.
In a snapshot--you tell us how many cards you want to send out each month--between 2-6 or more if you'd like, if you want to send out of your country and that is it! Each month the list of birthdays is posted iin the RAK forum. You will get a PM telling you when the list of assignments is posted. Check the list for the SCS names of the RAK individuals you are assigned to send cards, note the date of their birthday, send out your cards and SMILE!
PM me or post if you have any questions. If you want to join us and become a BRAK volunteer, you can post on the BRAK Thread or PM Faith yabbadodo and she will get you all signed up. Faith is the new member mentor.
Thanks so much and we hope you decide to join us--Barb
thanks--please PM me when you get accepted in the RAK and then we can add you to the BRAK. You may not get added in time for the July birthday list, but you will be on for sure for August.
Thanks for joining us--Barb

Thanks for the replies and to those new members. Anyone who joins will be added to the BRAK for the August list, so you will not be assigned any birthday's until the end of July. The July birthdays are being assigned right now and will be posted by the end of the week.
There are two volunteers who handle RAK membership requests. We process newbies twice a month. You will receive a PM from either myself or Amy (g33kgr1) explaining how the membership process works and requesting the rest of the info needed to complete membership. We send the PM's out in batches and give everyone a week to respond. That means once you get the PM, there will still be at least a week to wait (there is fair amount of work to do to get all the files updated and posted). I know the anticipation and waiting are hard, but hang in there.
I thought I would bump this up to see if there are any takers to join our group for 2011.
We have had quite a few ladies join the BRAK volunteers in the past 6 months, but ssadly, we also have had some drop out. We are doing a much better job checking on the inactive members of the RAK group before posting their names for birthday cards, so I think less cards are being returned (though some still are for old addresses)
We would love to have you join us--Remember you do need to be a member of RAK before joining the BRAK volunteers. Please request to join that before heading our way.
PM me if you have any questions or if you would like to join.
It is very rewarding--hope you consider becoming a part of it--thanks, Barb
Amber--we are happy to add more to you when needed. I just wanted to see if there are any more stampers who want to share some of their cards. Thanks for the offer--Barb

Hi Barb and everyone! Got a PM today and sent in my info, so am not officially part of the group yet. But when I am I would like to be part of the BRAK group!
Great--please PM me as soon as you know you are accepted in the RAK group and we will get you started.
Thanks so much--Barb

What I don't understand is that I was a BRAK volunteer for a very long time, maybe two years, then this fall I just stopped getting my list to send to. No e-mail, nothing. Maybe others were in that boat with me... not dropping out, just no one contacting us. I got busy and just didn't pursue it. I know there were times during my tenure that I would not get my list of names, but I would inquire. Seemed to be some problems there toward the end with names being issued. I got kind of tired of pursuing it over the last few months and moved on to other volunteer efforts, specifically working with the Box Tops for Education program at my daughter's school.
I will add that I stopped participating in RAK with about 300+ wishes remaining, but I had long kept on as a BRAK volunteer.
I am not sure what happened. The current group of BRAK coordinators started last February and I know there were some issues before that. We did some "spring cleaning" where Faith sent a PM to every BRAK volunteer to see if they were still with us and that is where we lost the 20 people--some dropped and some never replied.
If you would like to come back, we would love to have you.
Thanks, Barb

I checked my SCS message box. The last one I have from anyone at all at BRAK was from Misti, stating that she had some personal emergencies come up and that the August list would be coming soon. I never heard from anyone after that at all. Not sure how I fell off the radar. My thought is that 20 does seem like a high number, but I bet some were in the same boat as me.... they got lost somehow and just let it go.
I wish you the best of luck. I did really enjoy doing it, but I've since taken on quite a few other volunteer efforts.
thanks for letting me know--I do not even know who Misti is as she has not been a part of our BRAK committee.
Thanks, Barb
