Heart Silhouette Cameo faulty blade

Hi,
I'm new to this site but I'm sure I read on here somewhere about the Silhouette Cameo having a batch of faulty blades. I just want to share my experience with you.
My husband bought me a Cameo as a Birthday present in the December just gone. I was thrilled as I'd wanted an electronic cutter to help me with my card making as I'm disabled and it would really help me out.
Since receiving it I have been pulling my hair out with frustration! It just would not cut out for me, I've waisted a massive amount of paper and card!
I followed everything in the manual guide, I read all the tips on the Cameo website, I trawled the internet for help, to no avail!
I contacted the supplier who was of no help at all, telling me to sell it on ebay if I was not happy with it! :(
Finally I found a blog mentioning about a batch of faulty blades being sent out for the Silhouette Cameo ( I'm sure it was somewhere on here).
So I ordered a new blade and GUESS WHAT my Cameo cuts out perfectly!!!:p
I hope this is useful for anyone else having a problem with their Cameo.
I have contacted the manufactures and the company here in the UK selling the machines.
The manufactures emailed me back emediately with apologies and sending me another blade, as for the supplier no word yet.

Angela :p

Glad you got things straightened out with your Cameo!

Wow, I'm surprised the supplier suggested you get rid of the machine, bad service, IMO.

I was also one of the people who had a faulty blade and what a difference in made in how the Cameo cut.

Glad you contacted Silhoutte and are happy with your new blade. Hope you're having fun cutting!

Angedlholt, your post reads like one I could write. I too have had a bad experience with the blade. I emailed the company and they are sending me a new one. They also sent me a new pad, since mine was so sticky the little bits of paper were unable to be removed and became a mess. They also said to use a t-shirt and go over it before I use the new one. They also recommended slowing the speed from 3 to 1. I found the customer service helpful and courteous. Hopefully things will improve because I really like some of the things I have cut out.

Santa Claus brought me mine and I have been unable to use it since Boxing Day. Have been waiting since 2nd January for a new blade to be sent to me.

Hi Shadow, my mat was also extremely sticky too. I read somewhere about washing it which I did but then it lost all stickiness! I now use Crafter's Companion " Stick and spray" and it works great. Every now and then I remove all the build up of glue and start with again with a clean mat.
I think there are probably many more people out there having the same problem with their Cameo.

Wow, I am stunned about your experience with the supplier. I would not have been happy with that and the person who said that to you should not have a job, especially in customer service!

I'm glad you were able to get your issue straightened out in the end.

Thanks Leeann, the supplier has never emailed me back either! They are advertising on this site!
Still waiting for the new blade that Silhouette Cameo promised to send me.

Hi Angela,

I too had a faulty blade. I called Silhouette America customer service and they sent out a new blade right away. Now it cuts like a dream! So happy that it was only a blade problem I LOVE my new toy! I would've been so sad if I had to return it.

I've been making cards with if you want to take a peek at them on my blog. Some of them show how intricate it can cut. You can click on the link in my signature to see them. I have a category for the Silhouette Cameo in my right hand side column.

Hi Jackie, new blade from Silhouette Cameo still hasn't arrived, so going to email them again.
I'm still having a few problems with my Cameo, infact I've given up on it for the past few days.
It seems to only cut properly with a brand new blade.
I shall have a look at your blog.
Much love xxxx

If the blade is bad, it's best to just give up. There's nothing you can do to make it better. When your new blade arrives, I suggest starting with a very low ratchet setting (two or three at the most) and low pressure (10). Do test cuts (using Studio's "Test Cut" button) adjusting the pressure up to 30, and then if it still doesn't cut through, up the ratchet by one, turn the pressure down to 10 and work your way back up to 30.

It's a pain, but the new blade design seems to be particularly fragile. I hope they had a bad batch from the supplier, or they come up with a more durable blade soon.
