I've always wanted to get the ink pad storage caddy thing from SU. But now I'm second guessing getting one. I was watching videos on youtube of other peoples craft rooms and on one video, someone was twirling it around to showcase all their ink pads. Anyhow, I noticed how wobbly it was. Is this normal?

I can't remember if mine was wobbly or not, but it doesn't "twirl" very nicely. It "turns". I really didn't like it at all. It is collecting dust until I can sell it/donate it.
I had my dad make me some wood shelves so my ink pads stack and are on the wall not taking up desk space. I prefer this method over a turn style holder.
I agree with Smcdonough in that the SU ink storage caddy doesn't turn easily. But I do have to say it does wobble a little when you turn it. This is primarily due to the base of the caddy being smaller than the overall stacks of ink all around it. Plus I find that you either need to have it in a corner all by itself, or have enough room around it to be able to turn w/o knocking other things off. I like it as is better than having all your ink pads in a drawer or box, but if I was to do it all over, I would choose some other system. Hope this helps!
I hate, hate, hate my SU ink caddy! I recently purchased an ink storage system that was so much better made out of wood and had nice slots. The problem with the SU system is it is wobbly, jerky, and hard to visualize all the colors!
I have 2 and honestly, I do like mine. But I agree with what others say....it doesnt twirl at all. It is a little hard to turn. The other thing is it honestly needs to be full or at least have the ink pads equally distributed. Otherwise, thats where you get the jerky and wobbly motion from.
To me, the reason I got them is they hold the SU ink pads really well. I ROYGBIV my stuff, ink pads included, so if I am wanting red, then they are mostly in that row so I dont think its hard to visualize your colors. It also does hold other sized ink pads. I have A Muse ink pads now too and they will fit in the caddy. They are a rectangle shaped pad with just a plastic lid that comes off. I find that they dont hold the square ink pads as well, like Distress ink.
Both my caddies are full and I plan on finding a smaller storage caddy for my rectangle and square inks. But as far as SU inks, I like how the caddy works and hold them. I dont find it terribly hard to turn but then again, mine are full so that helps.
I wish they were sturdier and rotated better. I put mine on lazy susans to resolve that problem. I have two which I got as hostess gifts under the old system so I guess I shouldn't be complaining too much about them.
I like my caddy. I only have one with one extension. I will agree with others that it is a bit wobbly and doesn't spin smoothly, but I treat mine with care and it works well.
It is a bit of a space hog though - fortunately I have located a good place for it to sit that's easily accessible but still out of my working area

I didn't like how wobbly or how big the SU caddy is, and it's expensive. I LOVE my ink storage unit I bought from Organize More. I LOVE how well made the unit is and that it comes already to hang on the wall. Here's a link to Organize More:
I received mine as a gift, so like Erin, I won't complain too much. I agree that it is a bit wobbly, especially with an extension, and doesn't turn that well, so I also put mine on a small lazy susan. All that being said, I don't have a ton of wall space convenient to my desk in my craft area so a wall mounted system isn't feasible, and the caddy works just fine.
I have had my SU stamp caddy for quite a few years. I just reorganized it with all the new colors and I am very happy with it. I have it in a corner of my work desk where I can turn it. I do have an ink rack but it is not easy to access the metallic pads I use it for. Becky has a great idea about a cover for the SU caddy to make it more portable.
Off to babysit my DGD.

Hello! I had 2 at one time and I sold them both! I didn't care for how it turned and also taking out and putting the ink pads back in. I have a stamp pad organizer now that I just love! It is the "Elite" model. I will soon be ordering the "Topper" for it. Google, Wooden dreams by Sue. The stamp pad organizer is very well made and worth the money. That's why I will order the other piece! They have some wonderful organizers.
I have the SU! one and I love how well it fits their ink pads. I have mine on a lazy susan so it turns better and I do keep it full and evenly distributed so that may help. It fits on the corner of my table within easy reach. I had another unit that was on the wall behind me and I found that to be a pain in the backside. I am an organized chaos kind of stamper.

there is a cardboard storage wall unit, that is very sturdy, also. I really like it, but, it has been so long since I ordered it. A google search may produce some other options, a wall unit was nice also, as we don't use wall space enough

I had one and sold it due to its space hog , wobbilyness, and it blocked light. My ink pads are in wire mesh CH holder bins from office supply departments. EAch one holds 12 pads and I have them sorted by color (blues, reds, greens, ) with pinks being with reds, and yellow and orange being together and so forth. They lie flat at the front of my workspace below the pegboard and are in easy reach.

I like mine. They aren't perfect, but they do a pretty good job. Love how well they hold my SU ink pads and a few others. I also like the refill storage at the top. I didn't care for the extender though as it made it too wobbly for my taste.
I didn't like the SU one - bought it and then sold it. I did buy two of the other brands offered at my LSS. Just because if re-organizing, I have those two available if anyone is interested. It would cost a bit to send, but if you're willing to pay the postage, we can make a deal. Let me know.

THAT right there is why I won't get one. You all know how I'm all SU (99% of the time anyway) :-) but I don't like the caddy because I can't look at all the colors at once!
I got an organizer from Welcome to OrganizeMore! - easy organizing. and I LOVE it. It's the type with slots so all my inks face me all the time. It helps me put color combos together much easier!
I do think it's a nice thing to save space if that's a concern...it certainly would take up much less space than my huge, honkin' unit but I just can't work without all my colors facing out!
I DO like the stack and store for buttons and brads and stuff. I'm about to order a second one (or maybe I should STOP buying accessories, lol) at Sale-A-Bration. Mine turns quite nicely and isn't wobbly at all!

By the way, if you've wanted stuff from organize more...they have a facebook page and sometimes run special pricing! I got my unit at a discount because of facebook so if you have a page you should look into them!
I like my caddy with the extension, never had any problems with it. Yes it is a little wobbly, but I just figure it's the fact that it is tall. I don't think it's really a space hog, all the storage is vertical. I have mine grouped by color families and have the sides labeled (on the tray on top). I am really inmpressed by the "organizing more" website though. They look really nice and I love all the colors that you can get.
I LOVE mine, though I wasn't thrilled with the way it spun (or "jerked"). I too found a lazy susan at Walmart (wood trim, ceramic center) and stood the rack on it. It spins like a charm, and it takes up only maybe 1" more counter space.

My husband bought me a wooden storage system for all my SU ink pads, markers, and refills, leaving me with two SU caddies and one extension. I discovered that I can slip my rolls of ribbon in the slots, and have nice, easy-to-use and visual ribbon storage system.
I didn't like the SU ink caddy either. I was looking at getting a wooden rack unit, then I decided to make my own out of foam core. Yes! I have had mine for about 3 months and love it! I ordered the desktop unit and it really does not take up a lot of space. You need to be patient on shipping time, but it is so worth the wait!
