I am very disappointed in the doily sizzlet. I can't understand why SU would sell a die that can't cut thru their cardstock. After several really fustrating hours of cutting out the doilys with a xacto I give up. I have to make 30 shower invites for my Daughter in law to be, I fell in love with that die and wanted to use it. Got 12 done (with me cutting out most of the doily by hand). I decided it was just too time consuming. I tried every sandwich I could think of used both my bigshot and cuttlebug.
I plan to return it ASAP! :mad:

Here's what I do with sizzlits...
Sandwich:
Multipurpose platform with tab 1
Clear Cutting Pad
Sizzlits die face up
Paper
Clear Cutting Pad
If it doesn't cut through completely then I use paper shims, adding them one at a time, either on top of the whole sandwich or directly under the bottom cutting pad.
Try it and see if it works. It sounds like you need a couple layers of paper to make it cut all the way through.
Thanks Fionna! I did try that sandwich, used 2 shims (bigshot) could not use a 3rd it was too thick to go thru my machine. Also used that sandwich with my cuttlebug.
i was thinking of getting out my wizard. I just can't understad why an SU product doesn't cut SU cardtock in a SU Bigshot?!?!

I think I read somewhere that you have to run it through the Big Shot more than once (two or three times maybe) for some of the dies that are so intricate ~ in addition to the extra shims.
Thanks Patty. I did run it through 3 times which helped, but I still had to cut certain areas out with an exato knife. Not exactly what I wanted to do 30 times (# of invites).
I hope SU is willing to exchange it, I think mine might be defective, tried it again this morning. The areas that I need to cut out are in the same area. Used New cutting pads.
My machine handles were REALLY difficult to turn. I was scared I might break one or both of my machines. It's a shame that the doily is so pretty, I am bummed that I have to give up on it and use something else. (tried and true Nestie)

I Love PTI Doily & I use the metal shim that they sell for these intricate dies, after it is cut out I also bought & use the metal punch out tool. I love this die!!! Here's a link if you want to look at it, take a look at some of the cards made with this die that their Design team made...their beautiful! Just click on their blog to look,. I have the Parisian Lace die.
I don't have the SU doily die but do have the High Tea Party Doily from My Favorite Things and use it with the companion metal shim. This combo works in both my BS and CB.
I think in a Cherry Lynn die tutorial the man suggested you run the sandwich several times if the die has intricate cuts. He also suggested you, rotate the die/card stock sandwich since cutting machine could have 'sweet spots' that cut or don't cut.
FYI, the Papertrey and MFT fancy doily dies are made by the manufacturing company that is behind Cheery Lynn Designs, which is their retail arm. You can get them for less at Cheery Lynn, and they are discounted at Scrapyland. Far less either way than MFT or Papertrey, who have to add to the cost as they are reselling.
My Demo exchanged the die and let me tell you what a difference!
The new die actually cuts all the way through! My first one probably was defective. So if yours doesn't cut don't be afraid to exchange it. I was thinking maybe I should forget about it and get my money back. But I am so glad I exchanged it instead.

I have not tried this, but an SU demo recommended putting packing tape on back of the die in areas that are not cutting well. You can build up one or more layers of tape in the area that is not cutting well, and this will apply extra pressure where needed. If you try this and it works, let us know!
I placed two very thin pieces of cardstock under the doily die and then 1 thin piece on top of the "sandwich" and ran it through the Big Shot (used with Tab 1). It worked the best, but still not good as I would have liked. Originally, I put too many shims on it to get a good clean cut, but broke the handle & the crank shaft off of my Big Shot.....uuggghh....I contacted my demo to see if SU recalled the die, but they have not. Am thinking about ordering another one to see if it works better, I really, really like the look of this die and will use it a lot....!!

I did buy the die. The first one I bought would not cut all the way through everywhere. Used shims but refused to add anything to the die. Contacted my demo and she contacted SU. I was sent a new one. Did not have to return the first one. The replacement works so much better. My demo said SU would only replace the die once then if I was still not satisfied, I would get credit to order something else. I do still add a acetate shim to the sandwich.
Does anyone have a method to get rid of the little strands left within the die cut? Have tried a soft bristle brush, lint roller and quick touches with packing tape. Have ended up plucking the strands with tweezers. They bother me but maybe not others. Have received cards from swaps where some of the die cuts look really bad.
This is exactly why I am so happy with my Cameo - I can make doilies all day long, very intricate ones, and never have an issue with it! Cameo and Doily lovers - a match made in heaven!!

I had problems with my Memory Box dies not cutting and I emailed them, their reply was to put tape on the back of the die where it wasn't cuttig. Either masking take or scotch tape, it works. I change the tape each time I use the die, I have used in Cherry Lynn dies also. It would also work on the Stampin Up Doily die.
Try using wax paper next to your die and then your card stock, the little pieces come out easier. Some die makers recommend you do this 3 or 4 times when you first get them.
I had the same problem with the die I purchased. Two sections would not cut out at all, I tried numerous shims and types of paper. No luck. The problem is not getting the cut pieces out. The die is not cutting the paper at all, it is only embossing it in sections. To me it is almost like the metal cutting edges are not as high as the rest of the die. I was afraid to exchange it because if the second one did not work then what, I exchanged it for other supplies. There are so many different companies with intricate dies and they do not have this problem. I really think this die should be pulled until they get the problem fixed. Unhappy customers is not good.
Thank you for the tutorial on using roofing flashing as a shim. I didn't want to buy the flashing since I would only need one shim. My husband is not a 'handyman' type but I did find some 2 1/2" wide tape with aluminum on one side don't know why it was in the garage but stuck 2 widths on a 5" x 6" piece of sticky tape like instructed. I had to put packaging tape on the backside of the die but with these 2 shims, the die cuts through every time. This is my 2nd die and the initial cuts were fine. When I tried it today, it wasn't cutting through so with your ingenious instructions, I can now get good cut doilies. Just wish the little pieces would 'pop' out easier. Yes, I do roll it so most of the bigger pieces come out but still end up having to use my finest pointed embosser - safer for me than using my paper piercer.

I find that if I put the die more toward the edge, I get more pressure, and the cuts turn out perfect every time. I haven't received my SU Doily die yet, but every other die I've used (including Nestabilities and QK) work great this way.

Just wondering .... if you are using the doily as a layer on the CS , Couldn't you just cut out some with copy paper or the next weight up? It seems like a lota hassel to run them through 2 or 3 times and then have to poke out all the little pieces after all that. What if you just buy some doilies from the party store if you are just layering if you are in a pinch or time constraint.
I just got my Sizzix doily die this weekend and was a little concerned after reading these posts. Whenever I have a die with intricate cut outs, such as the Sizzix Flourishes and Architectural Accents, I run the die through my BigShot two or three times before removing the paper. I did this for the doily die and nearly all of the pieces came out. The few that remained were easily poked out with the use of an embossing stylus.
I just received mine a few weeks ago, and I finally had a chance to play with it. I used waxed paper on top of my cardstock so that the little pieces were easier to remove. The die cut perfectly in my Big Kick! It's absolutely gorgeous, and I'm so glad I bought it. For those of you who use a BK or BS, I used the "sandwich" for the "Wafer-Thin Dies. From the bottom up: MP Platform, Cutting Pad, Die (face-up), Paper, Cutting Pad. It works just as well with the die face-up and the paper under it. I hope your results are as great as mine.
