Default Stampin Up Large Paper Doily

Hi
I just received the Stampin Up Sizzlits Large Paper Doily and I'm having a heck of a time trying to get the little pieces out of the Die once I have cut out the doily. The doily is beautifulbut gosh, I can't seem to get the little tiny pieces of paper out. Anyone have any hints, tips or clues? I tried banging the opposite side. I tried tape but I dont want to ruin it.
I'd love some suggestions.
Thank you!

I feel your pain.....I actually called stampin up today but after being on hold for an hour I gave up. I too am having the same problem. It is a pain and not worth the money if I have to fight that hard with it each time. I am planning to call them again this evening and if I get any answers I will share them with you!

Yes Please! that would be awesome.
This doily is driving me batty. I hate to say it because I love Stampin Up but Im thinking about returning it. I gave up using it and returned to using my MFT doily. It works like a charm. Have you tried their products yet?

being that today is a postal and bank holiday, is SU open?

I'm waiting to hear what you find out. The die is on my wish list.

Yes....they were open just swamped!! The recorded message said it would be an 8 minute wait....since I was stamping I thought I would just put it on speaker phone and keep working....it was that way for over an hour. The second call said it would be a 19 minute wait....I left my name and number cause I was thinking if it went like earlier I would be on hold for a really long time!! :-)

If your doily isn't cutting all the way through then you may just need to add a a shim. Using my Big Shot with my doily die I added a sheet of notebook paper and it cut all the way through and then I just used my ball stylus to help the little bits out that didn't leave voluntarily. Any die that I've ever used that is highly detailed has needed my manual assistance to remove some of the bits.

I got this note from my demonstrator today:

Are you frustrated with the Paper Doily Sizzlit?? Is your cardstock sticking in the die itself and you have to 'dig' it out? If so, me too!!! I was so frustrated I called Stampin' Up! and they suggested I use packing tape on it! Yes, packing tape!!! I was really nervous to do it thinking I would ruin it but it does definitely help. You tape packing tape over the die and run through the Big Shot as usual. Then tear off the excess packing tape. I did have trouble getting a hold of the corners so I used a pin to helpand then it came off fairly easy. The rest of the packing tape stays stuck in the doily part itself and helps the cardstock to not stick in it. If you are having trouble as I was, give it a try. Demonstrator Services also said they use scotch tape on smaller detailed sizzlits but they suggested packing tape on the bigger ones.

I hope that helps.

Just got another email from my demonstrator:

I wanted to send a follow up email regarding the Doily Sizzlit. I did put the packing tape on mine and it seems to work better. However, another demonstrator did and is having issues and it also pulled some of the foam off her sizzlit. So maybe you want to call Stampin Up! yourself before using the packing tape idea... If I hear anymore info, I will pass it along immediately.

Just a comment about long hold times yesterday - they were closed: We will also close...on Monday, January 2 for New Year's Day. You can still place orders...and shipping will resume on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.

My doily wont even cut at all!!! even with shims. Urggg. Not happy, wanted to demo it. All it does is give an embossed look. Cherry Lynn has amazing doilys that actually cut like butter. Hate to use other companies but SU sucked at this one. Going to call them in the morning.

The powers that be also suggest to run your Sizzlit through with waxed paper. Somehow that makes it easier. Haven't tried it yet, but it's supposed to work well.

I don't know if this will help, but I had some trouble getting lacy doilies by Spellbinders out of the die also, so I used my embosser stylus and gently pushed the pieces out and it didn't harm the cardstock - as long as you do it gently. Hope this helps !!

Hi everyone
Thank you for all the feedback. I did hear from SU! Support and we are definitely not the only people having problems and I do agree with 'beaddict' that anything this detailed will need assistance. I did not have a problem getting it to cut. Just getting the bits to come out of the die. It was crazy! I tried every tool I had incl the tape. It just tore little bits and pieces off.
I hate to use anyone but SU! too (other than MFT - I love them as well) but I will be exchanging this one.

I'm so glad I saw the link to this thread on the Weekly Inkling email today. I just received the SU doily die in question and had not tried it yet. So, since I had read about and had had success using waxed paper in some of my intricate Spellbinders dies, I thought I'd try that with this doily die. It worked like a charm! After cutting the doily, I only had 3 little pieces of paper left stuck in the die. So, now I have to thank Beaddict who mentioned using a ball stylus to remove the stuck paper bits. I gently gave those three little bits a rub with a small ball stylus and out they popped so easily! So, I'm happy so far with how all of this is working. Now if it just didn't take so long to poke out all the little pieces from the cut doily itself! That's a bit of a pain, but the doily sure is pretty when you're done, so maybe it's worth the time. Now I'm off to try that little ball stylus in my SU snowflake decorative strip. It has been a real pain getting all the little stuck pieces of paper out of that one! Thank goodness it has been cutting fine so far even with a few bits of paper left in it. I sure don't want to have to start using waxed paper with all these dies!

Default Stampin up large paper doily

Hi ladies! Today i saw on another site that people were complaining about the doily. I had just rec'd. mine yesterday & hadn't tried it yet. I have a party scheduled for Jan. 31st & wanted to use it. I shimmed, you name it, i couldn't get it to cut out anything but the edges. I don't mind pushing pieces out of a die cut as long as it cuts through. I was very disappointed, it's so pretty. So i called SU, of course, their customer service is always helpful. I'm going to do an exchange for different product, &, they seemed o.k. with that. I think there have been a lot of problems.

Good luck everybody, hugs, cheryl

I'm glad I read this before ordering it. I don't mind popping pieces of paper out of the thin metal dies because I can do it, but getting them out of the foam is a pain. I guess I'll try the MFT Die-namics ones if I really need one.

I just cut 20 for an upcoming SAS. I used the lint roller and it worked really well! Thanks so much for that tip. I really like this die, it's a little work but....worth it.

Wow...I sure am glad I came across this thread! This was the item I have been anxiously waiting to order, BUT now when I read all your comments, I have changed my mind. I have little patience for dies that leave pieces of paper in them and are so labor intensive. It is truly beautiful, but sounds like way too much work for me.

Thanks you all the info!!! I'll put my hard earned crafting $$$ towards something else!!!

I'm not so much concerned about the little pieces of paper that need to be punched out. I am more concerned about the cutting ability using SU cardstock.

Any concerns or problems with the die cutting thru completely on the SU cardstock?

I just wanted to say thank you again for everyone's feedback. I tried everything suggested up until last Thursday and finally packed it up to be exchanged :(. I love SU! so I did want to give it every chance I could but it just wasn't easy enough. The die I bought is just a pain. Maybe there are inconsistencies in the dies? Maybe thats why some ladies have worked? Idk. I don't have a problem pulling tiny pieces either but after 3 or 4 times of pulling pieces of paper off the foam it was starting to look beat up. I can't imagine what it would look like after 10 uses. For the price, it should last a lifetime.

I've looked around at several other companies and it seems everyone is going for the steel dies now. I love LOVE MFT Dienamics and regardless of size they have all worked great. I'm sorry SU! but if you don't want to mess around for an hour carefully pulling tiny pieces of paper out of your die, try MFT Stamps or one of the other companies that offers the dies without foam.

Hi I find that if you dust any intricate die with talcum powder every little bit comes out and the card smells nice too. Hope this helps

Some of us that got some of the first ones made had more trouble.....They (stampin up) actually replaced mine and the new one is working fine. The lint roller really does do the trick....This die is so beautiful....I would hate to think on any of you not getting based on this thread when it seems like the problem has been fixed!!

Well...I REALLY wanted this die and had planned to get it. Yet, I read the comments here and reconsidered. I ordered the SU lace ribbon punch instead. I got it and do love it, BUT it won't seem to punch through SU and other heavier weight CS....ARG....wish now I would have just ordered the Doily die....

Default Didn't Have the Problem?

Hmm - I just got my doily die in the mail (yes, I'm a bit late!), and I ran it through with the suggest shim (just a sheet of cardstock underneath the die), and it cut out fine! There were a couple of parts that were a little connected still, but I have had that before, and just needed to add a bit of copy paper in between the plate and my cardstock, and that solved it..

I wonder if the dies have changed at all? Don't give up - it's a beautiful die, very intricate (so will always be slightly more challenging) and worth it - you just need to figure out which solution works best for you!!

That's my problem too. I used waxed paper a couple of times, another piece of CS once and nothing works to get the little rectangular pieces and other surrounding pieces to cut. They aren't even partially cut, just dented. Even the piece of waxed paper wasn't cut - just dented. When I used the 2nd piece of CS, I was afraid I was going to ruin my CB as it was v-e-r-y hard to turn. I don't know what else to try. Any other possibilities? If not, I'll not be using it any more.

I got put on hold again so I opted to have them call me back.....haven't gotten the follow up call yet.

I got my doily and I use my embossing buddy over the whole thing before I run it through makes it much, much better with the sticking. Not perfect, but a lot less aggrevating! I hope this helps some of you!

I wonder if there's a difference in using the Cuttlebug vs Big Shot or other machines. I have the Bug and won't cut all the way through so am wondering if the machines are making a difference. Would like to hear from those who use the various machines. Thanks.

Wanda I used the doily on the big shot and cuttlebug on Friday and both worked the same just had to shim differently for both. Try the embossing buddy really it works.

I have also had quite a time with this die. I tried using my Cuttlebug with the die sandwiched between two "B" plates but the die did not cut the paper. Next, I tried shims: Three thin shims was too much and resulted in my ripping the paper trying to remove the cut out doily from the die.

My best result was in using two thin paper shims with the two B plates. You will still have to pick out the small pieces from the die, as well as pick out the pieces from the paper once it is removed, but the results are somewhat better.

I hope this advice helps someone. Don't think I'd recommend spending the money on this die; very labor intensive.

I'm pretty disappointed with this die too. I have tried and tried to figure out just the right sandwich, and I still end up having to pick paper out of the die, and poke the bits out of the die cut. :( It's not one that will ever be a "go to" die. :(

I've been working on punching out some of my doily cutouts using a paper piercing tool. I had better luck with the ones I made using very thin scrapbook paper instead of good quality cardstock. Still used my Cuttlebug, "A" plate, two "B" plates and two thin pieces of paper as shims in order to get even the thin paper to cut. Took several hours just to punch out ten of these doilies. Very labor intensive.

Hope this tip helps someone.
