I need to bump up an online order to get free shipping. I am looking at purchasing an OttLight to use on my crafting desk. I noticed that there is one that mimics natural daylight, which might be ideal considering the shorter winter days ahead!
Well, Costco has a table version for $21. :-)
And apparently, the battery has a limited life span (6-8 months) but also has a plug.
Lol! I guess I didn't answer your question. I like using my Ottlite for colouring with Copics. I have a GX7911. It turns on when you open it and turns off when you close it.
:-) Barbara
This is the one I use. I have had it for years and love it. I don't recall where I bought it but knowing me I bought it with a 50% off coupon. I certaily didn't pay this much.
Sorry, I can't figure out how to edit my original message ( maybe because I posted from my phone?). I think that the Costco light was a special because I can't seem to find it now. Sorry Lauren!
I have Ott lights all over the house. I have never paid full price for any of them. Joann's has ALL their Ott lights and lightbulbs 50% off frequently. I put regular type base Ott lightbulbs in the lamps in our family room. Right now there is a "Sylvania" brand bulb in one and an Ott lightbulb in the other. You can sure see the difference just standing at the doorway and looking into the room.
Four years ago I had two "floor" style lamps. One was Ott and the other a "knock off" type light that I bought at Big Lots. Amazingly, the Ott light, which was newer, did not survive the 100 year flood that creeped into our home. After the flood and we began to rip everything out of the house, I tested these two lamps. The knock off worked and the Ott light did not. Tossed it.
BUT, I still stand by the Ott light products. The 100 year flood about did me in, I can't blame the light for giving up the ghost as well! I buy bulbs for our regular lamps each time they go on sale for 50%. I told my friend I should go outside one night to see how the house glows with all those Ott lights. She said the police are going to start thinking I'm growing something in here! Oh, dear....never thought about that.
I got mine last year on Black Friday at Joann's. It was $19.99, I've seen it for like $59 regular price... Here it is... My OttI took it out of the box but that was about as far as it got until recently when I discovered Copics.
They cost me $19.99 each, a real bargain! I've not seen them that cheap since, but a couple times I saw them go as low as $29.99. Even at that price, I think they are well worth the money. This style is really handy to pack up and take to crops where the lighting is low.
I think all the Ott lamps have a natural light bulb, which is slightly blue. Don't worry, you don't notice the blue. It just doesn't have that yellowish glow of a standard bulb.
I recently saw this Ott Tulip Lamp advertised in a Black Friday ad for $17.99. OttLite Tulip Desk Lamp | Modern Desk Lamp | Desk Lamps
It is a Michael's "Door Buster" sale, first come first serve ... and probably limited quantities. But it sure is cute! Michaels Weekly Ad
I just noticed that the tulip light is a Thanksgiving day only special. Their doors open at 4 p.m.

Hmmm...
It might be a good way to raise a little craft cash. And, if you get busted, maybe you'll get a visit from Martha Stewart ... oh, wait, she's out already.
I have a flip-up one. Sometimes I lay it on its back under a glass table to use the light to trace outlines. I don't own a light box. Anyway, when I need truer colors on a project I'll turn it on so I can get the colors blended really well, and they look fantastic. Also when I'm crocheting with really black yarn, I'll turn it on. I can "see" the stitches much better with that lamp than the normal compact fluorescent light. It's worth it, even to own a small one.
It's pretty good, I use it for taking pictures of my projects too, and it's just bright enough for the area that I work in.
I stocked up on the bulbs when they were on clearance at Lowe's, $2 each. I have enough to last me years!
This is the one I bought a couple of months ago at Joann.com, and it's terrific. A woman I know who is a very serious crafter has these all over her studio, so I based my purchase on her recommendation, and it was definitely the right choice. My space is limited, and the rest of my lighting stinks, so I really like the fact that this model closes shut and is fairly inconspicuous on my desk.
I LOVE my ott light for crafting. Right now Joann's online, maybe in store too Im not sure, has one for $19.99!!!! Fantastic price. I guess they are having problems with their website AGAIN this year so they gave a Free shipping code out. Not sure how long its good for. Oh sorry, was just good till 3am. But still free shipping for over $35.
I have a floor one and the Learning Lite. I use them both for needlework-cross stitch and needlepoint. Quilters and sewers like them too-they work great for all kind of crafts.
I haven't read every post here, but I just opened my e-mail and Joann's is having the flip top Ott light on sale for $19.99. That's a huge savings. Looks like one color is already gone.
HA! Look how the link shows up. I wonder if retailers know what the links will say when they are copied and shared like that.
They must be, in effect, getting rid of the colors they had before the new vibrant ones. Who cares? At that price, it could be any color. That's a $70 savings.
OLD! ha ha!
I have that same model light, in pink (the color that sold out). In fact, I have two of them and if I had the money I would have bought a third or fourth. It's a great little light for the $19.99 I paid for it a few years ago during a Black Friday sale. I'm hoping they offer it again next November. (fingers crossed)
MathGoddess, the replacement bulbs may seem expensive, but I bought my Ott Task lamp about 15 years ago (and a replacement bulb at the same time); I've not had to replace the original bulb yet.

Is there a difference between the lights with "High Definition" description versus ones that don't? I was purchased an Alexander set and the door buster one from Joann but was looking online and noticed the task lights have "High Definition" in their description.
I decided to buy an Ottlite at Joanns this morning with the 50% off and also got free shipping. I have never seen or had one of these lights, so i'm hoping i really like it. I have read alot of good things about them, so i'm not that worried!
My husband and I both use Ott lights on our crafting tables. I have floor models next to where I stitch and next to my computer. I have a battery model to take with me to stitchery seminars and on vacation. Love them all!

Lauren
I bought the one that mimics daylight. The area that's lit enough to be accurate with colors is right beneath the bulb. That small an area works fine if your project is quite small.

I use Ott Lights all over the house now. I've always bought them at JoAnn's with a coupon or on sale. I have table top models as well as a floor model. I think next time I'll get the one with the magnifying glass. LOL!
I purchased one when they first came out and have only changed the bulb once. Joanns clearanced them out about four years ago. I bought the one with the magnifyer and two floor models. One is still in the box. I also got an extra bulb for one. They were dirt cheap. Only reason I purchased the other three.
