I have spent a small fortune on adhesive and I really haven't found one that does it all..... I usually make cards and scrapbook but recently have been
doing shadowbox frames and some of the squares have fallen off yikes!! after i gave them as gifts... Any suggestions, I'll try anything if it sticks good.
Invest in an ATG gun and buy the 3M ATG gun refill (Gold for acid free) in bulk.
It's costly to get started, but it's a worthwhile investment that will save you money and headaches in the long run.
I got mine several years ago at framingsupplies.com, but the guns are now available at JoAnn's and Michael's. Probably a good deal with a coupon though I recall being shocked at the cost of the refills in those places.
I know many people like tape, but I'm a tacky glue fan all the way - Aleene's Original Tacky glue. With very thin paper (copy weight) it may cockle unless you spread it very thin, but with anything else I've never had a problem.
I use Tombow Mono Multi for gluing paper, as well as for UM stamps. It's convenient to have a dual purpose glue. I have NEVER had anything come apart with Tombow.
I've found that Glue Dots are pretty strong, especially for a project like a shadow box. I know that there are a lot of demonstrators out there who will teach their customers that you just need a tiny little dab of adhesive in each corner. DO NOT believe them. They say this because they don't want their customers using up all of their tape. Truth is, if you want a project to stick, tape it and tape it well.
I don't believe there is any one glue/adhesive that is right for all applications. You have to consider the strength of adhesian you need, the paper weight you're using and or what you want to adhere to what.
I do use Scor-Tape for many things, but also use ATG, Zip Dry and Fabri Tac glue.
Any suggestions, I'll try anything if it sticks good.
If it's something that can't be held by 3M ATG gold tape, I use 600E glue. It's VERY thick, comes in a tube and can be found in hardware stores, hobby shops, and Michaels. I apply it with a Q-tip because the big opening of the tube tends to let out too much if I squeeze it. It's quite inexpensive but it for sure holds heavy stuff.
Vellum is a different matter of course!
Before I discovered the ATG tape, my collection of different adhesives rivaled my supply of different trimmers, measuring devices, inks, scissors. stamp cleaners..........which is only to say you are not alone in the search for "the right stuff".

Tombow Mono-Multi liquid glue is what I use for anything paper to paper...boxes and cards, and it has never failed me.
I have cards that are several years old and they are all in perfect shape
For non-paper stuff I use the Helmar 450 glue, it's amazing!!
I even hem my pants with 450 glue and they last through the wash and everything ;)
I do 100% believe it makes a difference where you live, the climate/humidity, etc.

I've not used Scor-Tape, but it appears to be the same as Provo Craft's Terrifically Tacky Tape, which is very hand for places where it's hard to get an ATG gun.
Another tombow mono multi fan here. Love it because it's cheap and is on sale a lot at my joann's. And when I first apply another layer to it I can still move the layer around if it's not straight. Plus it really keeps the cards together. I have noticed that when I used tombow tape the cards would fall apart after a few months.

Those others need scissors to cut and it's difficult to remove the liner. Scor-Tape is easy to tear with your fingers.....no need for cutting and the liner is easy to remove with no static.

I'm another Tombow Mono-Multi fan. I've had experiences with cards I made some time ago falling apart, and that's always been in the back of my mind. Then recently I donated some cards to an organization where one of the employees had had a stroke. One of the cards I had made some time ago, and it fell apart before it could ever be used. That was it for me. I've had really good luck with the Tombow glue. I like that you have a little time to move the pieces around to get them exactly where you want. After those few seconds the piece stays where it's put. I have read all the comments about the ATG, but I'm just afraid to make the investment. If I knew I'd have the luck I have with Tombow Mono-Multi, I'd definitely invest in it. I think I just trust a liquid glue for a really permanent bond.
No votes for 3M's Quick Dry Tacky Glue? I totally LOVE the stuff! The only drawback for me is that the precision tip tends to clog... but it's easily cleared with a pin or straightened paper clip..

I love that stuff! That and my ATG are the only adhesives I use!

Oh, yes! That is my favorite liquid glue. It's the only liquid glue that doesn't warp my paper. (The Mono Multi warps my paper too.) The tip never clogs on me, though. Its holding power is excellent. The ATG is my favorite dry glue.
For a shadowbox I would use RedLine tape. It's very strong. I like it over the ATG. There are several brands from Ranger to VivaLasVegas. I heard the VivaLasVegas tape is amazing. I plan to try it when my next batch of RedLine tape is gone.
My favorite double sided adhesive used to be the Duck brand until they changed it from a tape to little tabs. It was great for simple layered cards and didn't fall apart. Anymore, I seem to automatically grab for my Tombow Mono-Multi. I know anything I put together with that be it layered cards or 3D projects, they're going to stay together.
I have an ATG with the 3M refills, but find that no matter what I do, it wants to pull off the roll and leaves gluey blobs on my work and is a mess. Don't know if I just got a bad batch of tape or what. I waited a long time to get one because of the price, but those that had one raved about it. I'm less than impressed.

I had a different problem with my ATG gun (it was the gun not the tape in my case). I called 1-800-285-3215 , extension 31 (3M's customer service). This was back in 2008, so I dunno if this number is still good for ATG problems. You could give it a try. In my case, they had me send back my ATG gun and then sent me a new one. Really great customer service!!
I hope you try this, 'cause it really sucks to pay ALLLLL that money for an ATG just to be frustrated!!!
I remember hearing a few years bacc about a bad batch of ATG guns. I think it was a manufacturing problem with the pieces that hold the tape. But that was taken care of by the time I got my ATG gun, which I've had for at least two years.
Geogymnast82, if you've had your gun for several years it may be from that bad manufacturing period and you should consider calling 3M. If not, and you are using a generic tape, that could be the problem. A few gals in my scrapbooking circle use a cheap, non 3M tape and while they seem to think it's a great deal, they say the problem is getting the tape started.

Not to hyjack the thread and turn it into an ATG thread, but I bought my ATG last year and only use the 3M tapes sold for it, so not old and not cheap, off brand of tape.
Making some cards today, and once again, I automatically grabbed my Tombow mono-multi! One note about the Mono-multi. I have a friend who would love to use it but has a severe latex allergy, and Mono-Multi has a warning on it stating that it contains natural rubber latex.

Got my ATG gun from Michael's for $20.00 (half price) and I get the tape for half price too. They have a hard time stocking it though. Mine has a case of ATG guns and no refills most of the time. But yes, it holds WELL!
I've tried LOTS of snails and Ad-tech (which I get for 40% off at Hobby Lobby) holds the best for cards, but not heavy projects. I do use my ATG now all the time but I take my Ad-tech to workshops. I still love the ease of a snail.

I use my ATG most of the time. I have 2, one for acid free adhesive that I use for Scrapbooks and one for general purpose adhesive that I use for cards. For buttons, flowers and the like I use glue dots. For items narrower than my ATG, I use either Tombow Multi, Tombow Aqua or Quickie Glue pen. I only use Tombo Multi if I need the repositionable aspect of it, otherwise I use Tombow Aqua since it is cheaper. If I need a stronger hold in a narrow area, I use Super Stick Tape or Scor-Tape. I also have Liquid Glass/Crystal effects that use if want to attach color or patterned paper to the underside of a clear button.
I have an arsenal of adhesives because like someone said, there's not one adhesive that can do it all (IMHO)... Here's what I use (and like the OP I have spend countless $$$ on various adhesives...)
For everyday card-making materials (cardstock, patterned papers etc)
Those are my favourites.. I have lots of other adhesives for other purposes (like flower soft glue, glossy accents for metal/plastic stuff etc...) but I would highly recommend all of those adhesives..

I'm a die hard Glue Dots fan - use them for everything. I do keep trying every new thing, but for me nothing holds as well. Cheapest place I have found is at Scrapbook Pal. The mini dots are $3.15 a box and free shipping at $25.00. I can't find a deal as good locally.
After reading all the comments on this thread I will try out the TomBow brand in the future. But, for now I use ScoreTape and love it because it tears just where you want it to tear and stays put. Another brand I use is Pergamano glue which works very quickly and things absolutely will not budge. I was making rolled paper flowers, adhered the glue under the rolled paper and within seconds it held. I use it also for adhering pearls, etc. I use Glue Dots a lot, as well as Chrystal Effects.
