OK I am taking my original sizzix to AZ and leaving my BigShot home. I have seen a video on Youtube using an acrylic mat and the sizzix adaptor to use with your Spellbinders. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to use or where to get something to work with the orginal sizzix? The acrylic mats for the BigShot are too big and I am guessing the Cuttlebug ones will also be too big.. All idea are welcome!!!
Personally I wouldn't use the old red Sizzix machine with Nestabilities. I doubt many of them would fit in the machine anyway. I would be afraid of damaging the Nestabilities.
As far as I know you won't find any of the acrylic cutting pads from machines that will fit in the old red machine. You'd have to have one cut custom at a hardware store.
The old red machine I think would be heavier to travel with than taking your Big Shot (in my opinion).

You can still get the cutting pads for the original machine. Here is a link I found. I think I recently bought mine at ohmycrafts.com but they are out of stock. Sizzix - Accessories - Cutting Pad, Standard
Not really sure if using the original is going to work with your Spellbinders though. Maybe someone has a solution.
Yep, those are the replacement mats! I have a few still.
And I've used my Nestabilities in my older, red big shot. I used that until I got the Big Shot, and didn't have a problem with it.
You'll need to try it on a few samples first, there's a learning curve. Since you need to "cut" more than once, you need to figure out the pressure so you don't get double lines after pushing it in a little further. I recommend a TINY bit of mono adhesive, or some repositionable glue/tape directly on the nestie itself, so there's no moving around. That's what I used.
It will work! Just experiment a little first to get the look you want.

Sizzix machine accessory-Cutting pad standard
This thick Cutting Pad was specially designed for use in the original press-style Sizzix machine. Constructed of high-quality polypropylene plastic, the Cutting Pad allows for easy die-cutting of Originals dies in the original Sizzix machine.
Combined with the System Converter (sold separately), the original Sizzix machine and Standard Cutting Pad can also die-cut and emboss Sizzix chemically etched dies and embossing products (Clearlits, Embosslits, Sizzlits and Simple Impressions). Add a Sizzix Adapter (sold separately) to create a sandwich for accommodating competitors� wafer-thin dies.
The Cutting Pad measures 6 3/8" x 4 7/8" x 3/8" and lasts for thousands of cuts. All Sizzix Cutting Pads are meant to be used on both sides. When both sides of the Cutting Pad are worn out, it is time for a replacement Cutting Pad.
If you have the Sizzix Standard Cutting pad (still available lots of places), the system converter, and the Sizzix adapter (both still available lots of places as well), you should be good to go.
I use post-it notes to hold my spellbinders in place on the paper.
And even though the "big red" is heavy, it is definitely less prone to damage when traveling.
Thanks for the posts. I tried a spellbinder and it seemed to work fine, it did emboss at the same time as it cut so I guess that is a bonus. The Youtube link is the one I watched. I went to her website to see about purchasing the acrylic plate that she used (because she said it could be purchased through her site) and could not find it. I think the video is a couple of years old so that could be why she no longer has it.
I think I will have to go to a Ace Hardware and have a plate cut to fit it. I know friend of mine said you can cut down the cuttlebug plates, I guess I will have to do a cost comparison.
The reason I am taking the Org. sizzix down to AZ, we have a 2nd home down there and I don't use it here so I can finally put it to use again one less item to haul back and forth. I thought about hauling my Cricut down there and then back, but the hubby put a ca-bash on that idea.
Maybe I will watch Craigslist and see if I can pick up a cuttlebug or bigshot when I am down there. I know after Christmas sales there might be one.
Can anyone tell be what the deal is with the Cricut and cartridges IF they have been linked. I have been leary on purchasing them if they are opened. IF they are linked then you can't use them in the Cricut is that the deal???
You might be able to use a piece of plexiglass as a plate for old red. I hestatied to share that link because she was selling stuff, but it was very useful, her idea.
