Default The new Silhouette Cameo cutting machine

Hi All!

I have recently preordered the new Silhouette Cameo cutting machine which is due out in October. I have looked high and low for dimensions of the actual machine (trying to find a place for it). Does anyone here know the dimensions or where in the world I can find them?

Thanks so much!

Maddy

Hi Maddy- I just tried Silhouettes site, but they don't give any size info, do they?
I own a Silhouette Digital Craft cutter, which seems to be exactly the same thing, just an older version. Here are the dimensions of mine, I think that the new Cameo will probably be pretty much the same. On mine, the cables plug into the side, so including them, and the knob on the opposite side, it is 18 inches wide. Front to back, the machine itself is 9 inches, BUT- remember that in use, you need space in front of, and behind, for a full A4 sheet( almost 12 inches),as it feeds the paper through to cut, so working area is almost 3 feet! Finally, it stands just under 5 inches with the lid down, and just over 8 with the lid up. Hope this gives you a rough idea, good luck with your machine. I Love my Silhouette, best thing I ever bought!

Thank you both. Shazsilverwolf: I appreciate your reply so much. Now I see what I'm going to be dealing with, space wise. I also am glad you like yours. I chose it because I didn't want to be bound to buying cartridges as I have SO much stuff on my computer I want to use. Will be so glad when I don't have to cut it out by hand anymore!! Hoping the software will be easy, too.

Thanks again for taking the time to measure and answer!

Maddy

P. S. Went to your gallery....LOVE your work!

The Cameo will cut 12" wide paper. While the website doesn't specify the machines dimensions, my Cricut Expression is about 2 feet long. I plan on ordering a Cameo after I get my rooms finished. (Soon! Soon!)

Hi Maddy, I am glad it was useful. Thanks for your comment on my work- I am still amazed ( and excited) when someone says they like something I have done. I totally agree about the cartridges. When I got my Silhouette, the main Die cutter available was the Sizzix, and the cost of an Alphabet set was around 100 over here. I worked out that for the cost of about 3 alphabet sets, I could have the digital machine, and never have to buy an alphabet set, plus you had all the choice of sizes etc. I am assuming it will be running the Silhouette Studio software, and in advance of getting your machine, you may like to go and register on this forum: UK Scrappers. You have to be a member for 30 days before you can download anything from it, but all the members post up their designs for cutting on the Craft Robo/Silhouette/Wishblade( which I expect you know are all the same). There are literally hundreds of designs on there, and some great tutorials too.

By the way, I forgot to add that you have to make at least 10 posts before you can download any of the free designs- not difficult as there are lots of questions you can ask about using the Silhouette, lol.

Thanking you again! I appreciate the suggestion to join the UK Scrappers, but I think I'll have all I can do to learn this and, as I say, I have TONS of graphics on my computer. Have you ever been to ClipART at pcCrafter.com - We put the art in clipART ? So much cute stuff. It's the only art for scrapbooking or cardmaking that I am willing to pay for! I used to make stationery for email, years ago, and that's how I got started collecting from that site. Now, it has a whole new life! I've even printed many, many cards with the art from pccrafter and it sells very well in my Salon. Hoping these new cards will, too. Just have to ammass (sp?) enough to last while I make more. As for questions about how to use the Silhouette...you sound like the best one to ask! LOL!! BTW...when I was 11 and 12 I lived in England, near Peterborough, on an Air Force Base. We have something else in common!

Hi again, doesn't it always turn out to be a small world? Peterborough is about 90 miles from me( just had a look on Google, lol).I will go have a look at that site you mention- you can never have TOO many sources, can you? You will find an e-mail link to me on my blog- feel free to email if you think I may be able to help. They can be quite a steep learning curve, I think, but once you get your head around the software, you're ok. Its a much more user- friendly software now, than when it first came out, and they are constantly adding new stuff to it, which is great. Oh, and I have to say that their customer service/ support is second to none. I have had a reply back from them in an hour or two when I have asked for help, which I think is ace. ( early days pc crash, and lost all my designs!) One good thing is that they keep a record of any designs you purchase from them, and you can re- download them if you have a hard drive failure.

You've been a great help to me, Sharon! Thanks so much and I'm sure we'll be talking again soon. I'm going to look at your blog and bookmark it. I'm something of a newbie with the cardmaking, but I'm utterly obsessed...I'm kinda like that, anyway! LOL!!

I have a lot of the PCCrafter stuff, and I no longer use it. I find it's ridiculous that you can't use other art with it, and they limit the use in anything digital. Maybe if I get this new Cameo I might pull it out to make some things for the kids to play with, like the paper dolls. I haven't been back to PCCrafter's site for a couple of years, so maybe they've changed their TOU, but the way it was when I left, it was downright hostile to anyone who wanted to make a sigtag or anything like that. No other graphics company that I know of is so restrictive. Most of the others just tell you not to give it away, or sell it; they don't tell you how you can use it.

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it) I'm not selling enough to violate the TOU :-) Do you know of another graphics site with looser TOU?

It depends on what you are looking for. Graphics like that site, not off the top of my head.

Hi Maddy! I too, have the Cameo ordered and have been trying to find the dimensions and no luck! I just got off the phone with Silhouette America and here are the dimensions:

21" Wide
5 1/2" Tall
6 1/2" in depth.....but you need to allow for 9 1/2"

Hope this helps!

Pam

I have just received my Cameo die cut machine. I had the Silhouette Sd so when I went to download the free designs it didn't give me the free downloads. Anyone know what I need to do.

I don't have my Cameo yet but have downloaded Silhouette Studio and got the free downloads. Have also gotten a subscription to the Silhouette store and already purchased items. I think you just have to go to Silhouetteamerica and download the program. Thats what I did.

Also if you google Silhouette Plus forums, there is a ton of information on there. I just joined today and the people there seem very friendly.

Good luck.

Try this. Open the software and go to "File", "Preferences", select "Advanced" and the then click on "Restore the initial 51 designs".

Can anyone tell me what the differences are between the one you are preordering and the one that is available now? I wonder if the price of the current Cameo will drop in the next couple of months? I'd assume so?
