They recommend using the Big Shot for their dies and also suggest a embossing pad. Would anyone have the sandwich for cutting and also for embossing these dies? I thought I would try here before emailing them to ask what sandwich they recommend. I usually use my Cuttlebug but they don't recommend the Bug for their dies. It's been so long since I've used the Big Shot, I feel like a "newbie". Thanks for any help you can offer.

I have a couple of their dies and they are beautiful. I think they recommend the Bigshot/Bigkick because the dies are so detailed and these machines have more pressure. I did buy their embossing mats and I am happy I did. In most cases you use both of the mats to emboss. One of their mats is very thin and the other is about the thickness of the Spellbinder tan mat
I used the same sandwich that I use for Nesties.
Be sure to tape the die down before you cut so it doesn't shift
From the bottom up
To cut:
2 cutting plates
Cardstock
Die ridges up
Multi purpose platform all tabs closed
To Emboss:
1 Cutting plate and one or more shims . (Try it out to see what you need"

Have not seen this company. I'm wondering why they select those two machines, only.
The wizard is a metal machine; and they suggests cutting machines with metal gears.
Guess, I would have to question them on that. Very detailed dies on this site

Barbara - is it really worth ordering the CL embossing mats? I have 2 of the doilies - they cut beautifully in my BS, but I didn't even think about embossing them. What are the effects - is the embossing really a nice, deep finishing touch?

I have one doily die and that doesn't need to be separately embossed.

Thanks, Barbara. I was wondering how in the heck you could emboss the doilies. The die of my 2nd doily leaves a slight purple residue on the white paper. Cleaned the die. May have to cut it several more times before the purple disappears completely. Other than that, I'm completely taken with how well these cut.
I bought one of the cat dies and one of the dog dies from Cheery Linn's site directly. I went to cut them out yesterday. My plan is to make my own embossing plate using them. The cat cut fine. The dog, which is a smaller die, took some work to remove from the rest of the paper and the edge of the paper shredded a little. I used the same exact sandwich, same paper. I'm using a 140 lb. watercolor paper which is thick but to make the plate I thought thicker paper would make a better impression. I've used the
Big Shot and rolled the sandwich through more than once to make sure it cut through but it still doesn't just "pop out". Any suggestions?

Our testing of several table top die cutting devices ranks the Sizzix™ "Big Shot™ as our number one choice of die cutters. Next is the "Cuttlebug™ followed by the Spellbinders "Wizard™.
Quickutz "Revolution™ works well for smaller dies while the Quickutz "Epic"™ works well for thin dies.
We do NOT recommend the "Epic"™ for embossing with our metal dies. Our testing of the "Epic"™ and creating dramatic embossing patterns was disappointing in that the main plastic gear broke.
Perhaps Quickutz™ will switch to metal gears and improve this machine.
The Revolution™ is too small for our A2 sized embossing plates.
They recommend the Big Shot but sell metal adapters for the Bug for fine detail dies. They have a "regular" and large sized adapter for the Bug.
I just saw this post, I use my cuttlebug all the time with Cheery Lynn dies but I did finally buy the silver cuttlehug plate he sells, it's a really good shim. I love them and they cut fantastic. You can also order them from www.cheerylynndesigns.com
There are videos on the site that show you how to cut using the very detailed dies. The fellow uses the Big Shot and gives all sorts of tips and tricks.
They have had the beautiful filigree butterflies for a while. They are available in large, small and mini.
Now they have a die to cut a plain solid butterfly shape to put behind the filigree design.
You only get on side of the wings but the man shows you how to cut it to get both sides.
So you can cut the filigree butterfly from one paper and then put a different paper behind it. NICE!!
I bought one of the cuttlebug metal shims as they had demoed this at a stamp show...can you remind me in what order everything goes? die face up or down? I didn't seem to notice much of a difference when I used it and when I didn't use it. I don't remember now how I had my stack ordered. Thanks.
For the cuttlebug I start with the big white A plate then B plate and I cut into that Bplate and then the silver thing and the C plate on top. I hope that answers your question.
I bought the mini butterfly set and the "metal" Cuttlebug cutting shim .
The butterflies are absolutely gorgeous!!

It is tight so go slowly but it cuts perfectly . These dies have so many intricate cuts . It cut perfectly on one forward and one backward pass. I don't know if this is the recommended sandwich , but it worked for me

Hello everyone! The Emperor's Swan was the new die that I fell in love with. Expecting difficulty I started with three passes through the machine. It cut perfectly in my third pass through the Spellbinder's Grand Calibur. Then it cut perfectly in two passes. So I tried one pass and all were successful. My sandwich for this was: base plate A, magnet sheet, die cutting side up, card stock, and cutting plate C. I did not turn the die. It was just so quick and easy! I cut eighteen of them in a very short time. Point to note is that reversing the order of the sandwich did not detail as well and I had to add a card stock shim which made it more difficult to get through the machine so I went back to my original sandwich. I have attached a few photos so you can judge for yourself how well this worked. Also I turned off the flash on the close up of the detail. I am not the best in artistic talent but I used a gold leafing pen, navy embossing, and copper paint on this example.
With the Grand Calibur, the static created by the run through (it's very dry here) kept a lot of the tiny pieces clinging to the cutting plate. The rest I just tapped the die against the inside of a cardboard box and out came some more. After a few applications of the tapping procedure there were about 6 or 7 stubborn pieces but since there are holes in the back I just popped them out with a needle. I took samples to work today and showed my crew how easy it was and two of them had orders in by lunch break. Who knows maybe with all of the new items I keep bringing in to work with at lunch we may get our stamping group going again.
When I cut my mini butterflies a couple of pieces stayed in the die.
I just hold it horizontally (with the cut ridges down) about a foot above my CB plate and "drop it" on the plate a few times. All of the little pieces fall out
Another thing I found is if I reversed the order of my C & B plates the dies cut in one pass
First I tape the die to the cardstock. Then I turn it over so the cutting ridges are UP

Can anyone tell me where I can get one of the metal shims? The only place I've found one has been out of them for over a month. I'm getting tired of checking and have something that I want to cut and it requires the metal shim.

thanks LorraineBK. I didn't know Joann's carried them. There is a new one opening on Fri. and I may check it out first. Maybe, just maybe they have one and I won't have to wait until someone ships it.
You're welcome. I know different Joann's stores seem to carry different stock. The Joann's by my house doesn't carry them (or alot of the products I need) so I have to order on line. Hopefully the store opening in your area will have a better supply of stamping supplies than mine does. They're getting more things in but my store still doesn't carry enough. I guess they can't carry everything. I have 3 major stores in a 10 minute drive from my house, AC Moore and Michael's as well as Joann's. Not one of them has the Distress Stains Tim Holtz put out. Really annoying.
I live about an hour from the new Joann's that is opening. It is in an outskirt town of Houston and there is a lot of money to be made in the area. There is a Hobby Lobby several blocks away and thankfully an Archivers. Michaels is about a 15 min. drive further so I don't go there as much. I'm hoping that because the store will be new that there will be different and newer Spellbinder stuff. Hobby Lobby still carries the original stuff Spellbinders started with and everyone I talked to thinks they should order something different.
Rubbing the die with waxed paper helps release all those little pieces but they still stick to the paper doily. Next time I will wax the paper also.
One thing I do with intricate dies to release bits of paper is to sort of spring the die by holding one side down on my desk and sort of bending the die and quickly letting it hit the desk. Paper pieces fly everywhere but it gets the job done.
I have a cuttlebug and use the sandwich above but it is a little too tight. My B plates come out really bowed. I wonder if there is some other way to shim? A C Metal Die Paper B I think the C is a little too much but changing to a B just won't cut it. 8-)
I just got the Italian Flourish doily today and had a problem cutting it with my CB. I have the metal shim and this is the first time I have had a Cheery Lynn die that didn't cut all the way through. I turned it 90 degrees and I rolled it numerous times . Nada
I put it through my Bigshot and it cut just fine. I wonder if the rollers on my CB are becoming loose from wear. I have had my CB for 2 years .
I am one of these people who rips open the package to try something the minute I get it LOL
I have 2 doilies and they are so pretty that I feel they are worth the extra work.

Hi guys just rub the dies with a little dry bathroom soap before putting them through your machines ...... ALL the little parts of the intrigate dies will just pop out after cutting or embassing. Thought this will help. I use those that they always leave in the hotels rooms. Works a treat. Nice tip far any intrigate cutters.
Was just cutting with some of these dies tonight. I use this sandwich & it cuts PERFECTLY in my CB (from bottom up):
B plate
Cuttlehug metal plate
cardstock
die with ridges up
A plate
C plate
The metal plate keeps the die from cutting the top B pad that way. Don't know if that's how it's SUPPOSED to sandwich, but it works for me
My problem is trying to emboss. I have the tan pads from the Spellbinders. To emboss I use (from the bottom up):
B plate
1 tan Spellbinders pad
die with shape still "inside"
A plate
C plate
It really makes a nice deep impression, but it's hard to roll through my Bug & I feel like the handle's going to break. Is the difference between the thick & thin Cheery Lynn embossing pads significant? I'm thinking I need the thin pad from Cheery Lynn b/c obviously this Spellbinders pad isn't "right".
I've tried all sorts of different shimming materials instead of the top B pad - cardboard,cardstock etc. but it doesn't give as good of an impression.

How do the cuts come out if the Big Shot is used? I have both the Bug and Big Shot. Any tips for using the Big Shot for these dies?
I have no trouble cutting the Cheery Lynn dies in my Big Shot. Just run them through a second time, and/or turn the paper a quarter turn if you need to.
Have you seen THIS new die? It's gorgeous! I just received mine yesterday - it cut through beautifully; just had to "hole pick" from the back side.
