As anyone heard of making wine glass lamp shades out of vellum? How does this work, do you put a candle in the wine glass and somehow make the shade hang over it, or what? Anyone know? I need help understanding this one. Is there a pattern?
Yes, they're cute and fun. Here is where I got my template: http://www.ruthannzaroff.com/mirkwoo...glassshade.htm
They turned out cute. You can add beads that are already hanging from ribbon around the edges or just plain ribbon. These really add an extra punch to the shade!
1. Place sand in the bottom of a wine glass.
2. Place candle in sand.
3. Put vellum shade on top.
4. Accent with ribbon around the stem and/or wine glass charm on the bottom. These are cute for parties, baby showers, wedding showers, etc.
I have a plastic template for making these that I bought at last year's Scrapbook Expo, but you can also find a similar template at http://www.ruthannzaroff.com/mirkwoo...glassshade.htm. I experimented with several wine glasses before I found one with the right sized flare and stem length that I liked, but it looks very classy once you find that perfect glass. Insert a tealight-type candle into the wine glass and VOILA!
It's very easy. I will try to download a picture. You can use any type of thin paper or even a thicker paper with pin holes. I used a dark one to show up better for your pattern. 2 small brads hold it together. A tea light is the only candle I use.

I'm looking for the person that posted a Vellum lamp shade they made for a wedding! It has a black ribbon around top of shade and black beads hanging from bottom of shade! They also made a cream colored invite or program and smaller card and I think table numbers and Thank you cards! Had a black ribbon and some kind of a circle with something stamped in it. Sample had the Wine Glass with Vellum lamp shade sitting on table with tea light in it on a round table! Can anyone help me find this person? Please!!
I've had a look, but since it's not in the gallery for Votive covers and doesn't appear to have either vellum, wine glass or votive in the keywords, I'm coming up blank. I hope someone else will recognise it and be able to help you out.
i made these years ago and used the wine glass with a narrower opening and the bowl of the glass being wider, this helps the shade sit on it without sliding down
i used a little water in the bottom of the glass to keep the glass cooler and lessen chances of fires.never leave it lit unattended as it is paper and fire.
