TLC329 ~ Patchwork~ (06/13/11)
Hi Friends!
I owe a great big thanks to MariLynn for covering for me two weeks ago. With the end of the school year, my sons graduation and then our anniversary, I need a wee break. I love that there is always someone, like MariLynn, to jump in and help!
~ Patchwork~
Patchwork dates as far back as 3000 BC. It can be seen in Egyptian tombs and Chinese art. Just about every culture has used the technique at one point. During the great depression, patchwork became a staple of everyday life as worn fabrics from clothing were sewn into warm quilts.
I thought it would be a great way to use up some of your smaller patterned paper scraps.
Just take a wide variety of pieces and adhere them down to some cardstock. You can then die cut them or just leave it as a full background. Some may wish to sew the edges in a traditional way. If you dont sew on your cards, you could faux stitch or create another way of binding the edges. You can even use the technique to paper piece!
Here is my sample:
~ Patchwork Kitty ~

You can find the entire TLC329 gallery HERE.
Happy creating!

This should be a no brainer for me since I've been quilting, trying to finish a quilt for my gf's wedding. Cool idea.

Who doesn't have scraps? This should be a no-brainer. I'll be back in the morning.

Fun challenge, Holly. Good to see you back. Again, your and Jen's challenges combined well, IMO. I used the challenges to make a card that will go into my stash for 4th of July greetings. Thanks!

HOLLY, IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!!!
I went to bed dreaming of quilts, did three cards and then uploaded the info on how I did it, because I wanted to dispel the theory that I'm nuts and pieced all those little pieces.........well I am thought to be nuts by some, but still wouldn't glue all those little pieces!!!
My instructions for strip piecing
and my three cards:
Patchwork
Last week's sketch

Good to see you back Holly!
Scrappin' Sunday on Tuesday
I love an excuse to use up some of those pieces. Even the butterfly was a leftover!
Thanks so much for taking a look.
Enjoy!
