Default Question about coloring embossed side...

I have an embossing folder that is of a Fall Scene. I want to run it through my Cuttlebug, then color it. What is the best way to color the raised side? :-) LM

you could ink up a rubber brayer and roll color on, or use an ink pad for the direct to paper tech, which is just rubbing the inkpad across the paper. or apply ink with a sponge
GinaK has an awesome video for this i will find and post for ya!

The only thing is that it is a scene, so I want to color with different colors on it. Any ideas for that? LM :-)

I don't do very well with sponging, but trying the SU Pastel Chalks is a good idea. Thanks! :-) LM

I wonder if distress inks with a paintbrush would work or any kind of medium applied with a brush?

Can you use a dauber to put the color on?

I think the bristles on a brush would get in between the embossed areas. A dauber, q-tip or stencil brush would work. All work well with inks. In fact, I think a stencil brush would work better than a paint brush because you hold the stencil brush upright rather than an angle.

I have done it a couple of times using chalks and Perfect Pearls...Takes time, but looks very nice...

Hi LM, If you look in my gallery back to Nov 2010 I did a Fall scene EB folder. I lightly wiped a sponge over the raised area then used my blender pen and the tops of my SU ink pads to color the leaves etc. I don't know if it is the same one but this might help.

We did a technique challenge just recently where we used markers for colouring the folder before embossing.

If you have markers you might find that worth trying. Some people mentioned finding it hard on the marker nibs, so don't use your best ones. But I'll be using this technique again, I really liked the effect.

My fave for colouring raised pressure embossing is to colour with markers and paint over with gesso: Mel Stampz: Cuttlebug Challenge Blog (new(?) 'bug techniques & folder stuff) It gives a soft look, but you can make it bold too: Mel Stampz: Cuttlebug Ceramic Lantern Tutorial (paint fresco variation)
Or you could do a crayon resist: Mel Stampz: Cuttlebug Crayon Resist (makes nice Faux metal) & DIY coloured vellum Or pastel with gesso: Mel Stampz: 7. Oil-pastel & Gesso Cuttlebug Backgrounds

Or there are a whack of links here: Mel Stampz: I've been bitten!!!.... (235 things you can do with your Cuttlebug / Big Shot and counting...)

Happy colouring!

Hey Lorraine, I'm just a lil' ol' member (not one of those awesome moderators and hardworkin' gals). I started out as stampztoomuch a while back-it's sort of like a secret identity. lol. ;)
