HSN- a crafting show where they did die cuts with a little sizzix. Once I had that, I slowly expanded... then went to an SU! party....

My friend kept inviting me to these Stampin' Up! parties. I finally gave in and went to one thinking she'd leave me alone. Ha! It was instant addiction. Now I'm not only completely addicted... I eventually signed up to be a demonstrator and have a wonderful time sharing that addiction with others!

Wink what got you interested in stamping?

I always had an interest in stamping and owned a few stamps, but didn't know what to do with them. I took a stamping class at Michaels and I was off and shopping! The instructor invited me to come to her stamp club and I convinced a friend to go with me. We both felt overwhelmed by their talent and knowledge, but we continued to go to learn and improve.
I've been stamping for about 13 years and my meager container of supplies now fills an extra bedroom in our house.

haha. I first got into stamping via my dress making. I went to a few shows and saw beautiful fabrics that people had created for themselves with various mediums and I thought I would like to make my own "altered fabrics" with stamps. I thought the best way to learn to use them properly would be to take actual lessons. My LSS at thetime had a Saturday Stamp Club once a month, so I attended about 10 classes. Of course, while doing classes in an LSS one becomes intrigued with all the papers, cardstock, stickers, punches and well, you sign up for a beginners class, and you sign up to do their "University" course and next thing you know a few years have gone by, you have a house and garage full of scrapping and paper crafts, the fabric dreams have sort of passed into oblivion and there is a huge mess to clean up.

I did several crafts , but was never interested in rubber stamping until.......

One evening almost 2 years ago I was on the Net looking for something ( I can't recall what it was now) and somehow I stumbled onto Becca Feeken's site Amazing Paper Grace . I sat there totally in awe for a couple of hours looking at her archives. I said to myself, "These are gorgeous! I have to learn to do this" A link from her site to her gallery here on SCS led me to the forums and the rest is history.

My sister Ann! She helped me make my son a scrapbook when he graduated from high school six years ago. At the time she said to me "Now, if I could just get you to make a card, you will be hooked". I did...and I am!!!

In the early 90's, I was at a flea market and two ladies were selling stamps and embossing powder. I bought a snowflake stamp, a To and From stamp and some gold powder to make gift tags. Never made them because the process was confusing to me! Later I got better instructions and I haven't stopped.

On subject of supplies I kept my first supplies in a plastic tupperware.
Then I decided to buy ONE Iris cart with 4 drawers. I didn't think I would fill it up , but I could spread things out to see them easily LOL
I now have 4 Iris drawer carts that are full and things are not spread out LOL
Add to that a box of punches under my bed and a file cart on wheels in my closet that holds paper/cardstock

I was married w/o a kid, just lots of dogs, and decided to scrapbook some photos. Thought stampers were a little off - who could really use all that stuff? How would it be worth it to buy a stamp and be stuck with that one image?

Then, I had a girlfriend who was into SU, went to a party at her house and here I am. 10 years and an entire ROOM of my house dedicated to the obsession.

I was looking for a hobby when a friend invited me to a Stampin' Up workshop. I was hooked from the beginning but didn't know what to do with all of the stuff I was accumulating so I searched the internet and found SCS which gave me the boost I needed. And now, I am a SU demo myself.

After attending my first SU party in 1996, I sat in my car in the dark in my friend's driveway thinking to myself, "I am in so much trouble - I love that stuff." When I stamp, I feel like a little girl again on the first day of school smelling my new Crayolas. I will always be a stamper.

Default My story is much the same as others.....

Went to a rubber stamping party and bought a bunch of stamps.

Still learning and trying to challenge myself more. I love CAS cards, but everyone here has such awesome coloring and shading skills that I am trying to expand my horizons!

Sat on my couch all day about 5 years ago, on a bitterly cold day in January, just enthralled with a scrapbooking/stamping event they were having on HSN.

I ordered a bunch of stuff that I had no idea what to do with - but it was just so appealing, I couldn't help myself.

Made a few scrapbook layouts, but then discovered cardmaking and fell right over the edge with it. I haven't found the bottom yet. I don't think there is one with this hobby!

Ditto- I moved from the city to the country and needed to get out of the house. A
freind from my kid's preschool was a Stampin up demo, so I went to all her parties. I didn't really like stamping but I would buy a stamp set at each party. Now when I look back at the early SU catty (1993-1994) I realize why I wasn't so excited about stamping.
As stamping evolved I slowly got hooked and now I'm totally addicted.

Hmm, never wanted to get into scrapbooking- I figured it would consume my life! I was invited to a Stampin' Up! party and only bought an address stamp and took a catalogue home. Browsed the catalogue many times and decided to get one stamp set. Uh Oh, just got bit by the stampin' bug! Next thing I know, I'm signing up to be an SU demo and not scrapbooking, but cardmaking has consumed my life and my art room!
And I need to say, it's been one of the best things that has ever happened to me!

I did just about every craft imaginable as a kid: embroidery, cross stiching, sewing, rug hooking, beading, macrame, decoupage, even something called dip and draping (to make a lovely Holly Hobby figurine).

I went to my first Stampin' Up party 10 years ago, and discovered SCS about 5 years ago. Now card making and scrapbooking are part of my daily routine as much as possilble.

I justs wanted to say...I LOVE this thread. It's so much fun to see how we all entered this wonderful world!
When my sister got me into stamping, she showed me SPlitcoaststampers. At the time she wasn't even a member but just came here to view cards. It's become so much more to both of us!

I actually first started out scrapbooking right after Sept 11-2001, when I finally realized how short life can be but didn't get into card-making (my true passion) until fall of 2007 when my Mom was DX with CA for the second time in 8 years, she loved stamping, when I traveled to her home 500 miles away for a 20 day stay to help my Mom following surgery and starting Chemo and radation TX's- My Mom had been stamping and card-making for appox 5 years by then. Well I had her show me a few things to help keep her mind off everything going on well before I left her home to drive back to mine she took me to a big box store and handed me a Credit Card and said "I could never repay you for putting your adoption homestudy on hold for 'just me'- so let me help you start a stamping/card-making stash for when you get home, I'll need at least 3 get well cards a week so buy alot so you don't get bored". I smiled and started shopping $500 dollars later I had a lot of supplies (or at least I thought so) and was hooked. Even though my Mom never did truly return to stamping after her illness, I was addicted. Now the room that was suppose to our future childs playroom is my craft room and I did adopt my Son and well I love this hobby and almost stopped srapbooking all together (except my once a year scrapbook for my Son). My wonderful husband always reminds me when I complain about how expensive my hobby is - that it is cheaper then therapy and his hobbies are really expensive too. Life is too short to worry about how much you spend on your hobby as long as everything is paid and we have extra for saving every month. I do stamp on a budget.
Thanks Mom for helping me get started and helping me find something I truly love to do even if it did cost my Son his playroom- he does have an extra large bedroom to play in so thats good enough. When Mom's are happy then everyone in the house can be happy..

Made my first scrapbook when my son graduated high school. I found that rather fun. Put all the tools away for a few years because I was done, right? Then a football Mom invited me to a Stampin' Up stamp camp. Hook, Line, and Sinker!!! Love this craft. I make more cards than anything but I scrap some from time to time. I found out I love to alter stuff too. I always loved crafting different things as a kid, but they were always just one time projects. Done and put away kind of stuff. Card-making though, I just love it!! I will always be making cards! Always!

what a great thread...ok
i didn't not get hooked by a man on a street corner, but

I had to go to a local craft shop to get a poster board for my kid's science project and passed an aisle with jars of embossing powder....then I saw a show on stamping on HSN and then I got a book on stamping.

But the hobby/obsession didn't really start until someone in my office gave me an SU catalog.

SU is the theme in this thread. A lot of us started that way. Thanks SU!!

I slowly fell into this hobby after our daughter was born. I was a CM consultant and had heard about stamping. Mostly that you should never do it on your scrapbook pages (obviously "sticker sneezes" are so much more attractive!). Anyway, I went to an SU party being held by our babysitter's mom and I was intrigued. That was back when the catty was like 2 pages. I tinkered with it on and off then about 5 years ago I went to another SU party and got hooked. I just signed as a consultant in April and am so looking forward to the new catty!

About 10 years ago a friend invited me to a Stampin' Up! party. I only went because she was a friend and I didn't want to disappoint her. I have been hooked ever since!

This is a very interesting thread...so cool to see what inspired people to start papercrafting!

A family friend owned a commercial stamp shop. As a sideline he started bringing in art stamps, ink and embossing powders. And, I was hooked with a capital "H"! That was 20 years ago and I'm still at it. And who knew that at my age...I'd love to color!!! Copics have added a whole new dimension to my cards.

A friend is an avid stamper and spent about five years trying to talk me into purchasing a stamp. Like another poster, I caved in and bought a stamp to shut her up. She dragged me to Be Creative and I discovered "Burnished Velvet" and I have not looked back since. It went from stamps to embossing folders, to die cuts, to Peel-off's, to Glitter and now to Copics....I have far surpassed her in stamps, tools etc.
