CAS Summer 2011 DT Search: Beach Party
I want to start by saying how this doesn't look as pretty as usual. My browser isn't allowing me to do some important functions. (Sigh) But the fun that is coming is worth it!
Summer is almost here! To celebrate it's arrival, let's begin with some virtual summer fun and search for a new summer CAS design team! Pack your beach bags with your paper crafting supplies and creativity and join us for a fun in the sun beach party!
To enter the competition for this Clean & Simple DT search, make a CAS card following the instructions below. And then post in this thread with a link to your card.
Who can play? Anyone except store owners and past CAS DT members.
CHALLENGE #1 (Note: 2 parts)
Beach Theme Challenge + an image (or part of an image) needs to be popped up.
Keyword: CAS2011summerDT1
(No spaces CAS 2011 spring DT 1 -- not good. If you are concerned about getting it right, copy & paste it into your keyword box.)

You will be participating in choosing the challenges for the season during your 2nd week as a DT member. When the season is ending and a new DT search is going on, I would like you to help with the judging, especially in the final round.

In addition to the three new DT members, there will be a guest designer each week. If you would like only to be considered as a guest designer, please let us know on the thread and/or in the comment section of your card when uploading.

Lots of CAS stampers must be busy this summer. That means that all 13 people are advancing to the 2nd round. When we choose the finalists, we will look at both cards (challenges 1&2)

Thanks for reminding me that it's EDT and not EST.
As far as flexibility, I'm afraid not. We've had DT members from Europe before and they were able to upload. I'm hoping to be able to go back to work in the fall and I can't be editing it from work. Posting too early gives the challenge away sometimes. There have been rare exception for an early post by a DT member because of a special event, but it's not on a regular basis. Same here. I would have loved to play along, but have had family in town for a few days for several school activities. The timing just worked out to be the same as the first round, so I couldn't join in. Hopefully I can play for the next search again! They're so fun! bummer that I missed this- I had it noted to check it out and with VSN and the end of school and everything I completely forgot- oh well, look forward to playing along in the challenges this summer

It looks like a lot of CAS stampers have a lot going on this summer.
So................
All thirteen people who submitted cards are moving into the 2nd round. When we choose the finalists, we will be looking at both of your cards (Challenges 1&2)
Update: My son's recovery from surgery.
(Brian is 15 but the size of an upper elementary school child. He has cerebral palsy and high functioning autism)
First, I want to say that I appreciate all your thoughts and prayers. They really mean a lot to me. When I joined SCS in 2005, I could have never imagined how many people I'd meet that I call friends.
Surgery was Friday morning. He had 10 procedures done, 5 on each leg. A few bones were broken and pinned so they would be straight. His knee caps were moved into their proper places, and then he had the typical tendon releases. (He has cerebral palsy.) His blood pressure was dangerously high for too long and he's been in PICU since yesterday afternoon.
He has casts on both legs and for awhile we thought he would have to go back to surgery to look for internal bleeding and then recast him. But after 2 blood transfusions, that isn't going to happen. He gets pain meds regularly and his blood pressure comes down a bit, but he's now on blood pressure medication. His heart rate is better since the blood transfusions.
Today, we tried to start moving him with a transfer board. He's too heavy with the casts and even with 2 people we can't do it because of the tightness of his arms... he can't help us. So, we will be adding a lift to the assorted rented stuff in our living room. We have a hospital bed, bedside commode, and a wheelchair with leg rests.
Edited to say that we are working diligently to keep him from getting pneumonia.
I will need lots of prayers as well. We discovered about 3 years ago that my husband has a genetic disorder that has left him physically unable to help. My parents live near-by and as always, they're always ready to help.

I remembered from you talking about your son a loooooong time ago that he was about the same age as one of my boys (I have a 15 year old and a 12 year old) and that he was a special needs child, but I wasn't aware of the extent of his complications. Both of you sound like real troopers and I admire your fortitude. I hope his recovery continues on a positive trend. |

Jen, I am esp. happy to know your son is doing better and hopefully out of danger, but sure has a long recovery ahead. Now that is a challenge, but it sounds like you are all mentally prepared. Can we send Brian get well cards? He sounds like a great young man.
Thank you for advancing us all too. I agree, summer is a busy time to make a 3 month committment. Lucky for me our big vacation does not start until Sept. 1st.
My thoughts and prayers for Brian, you and your DH. Take care......

Jenn, I was so concerned to hear about your son and his big procedure and complications post-op. Now as I read through, he is apparently more stable but will be a challenge post-op at home. I will send my thoughts and prayers along with other SCS'rs that his recovery will be without any further difficulties.
I am bummed that I forgot to upload my challenge card last night.... I may do it just for the fun of it now. Take care.
