Saturday, May 14, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
First United Church of East Syracuse, 823 Franklin Park Drive, East Syracuse, NY
Join us for a day of stamping fun!
Hope youre planning to join us at our next Central New York Stampin' Get Together. Heres the info:
Cost $25.00 per person ($26 via PayPal). Your registration must be paid no later than 5 pm on Wednesday, March 30. Mail your registration form and payment to me (info is in the registration form). There are no refunds, but you may offer your spot to someone else. Heres whats planned.
Mandatory Swap(s) (just one of these is mandatory) Youll know how many to make when we post the final counts, and youll have plenty of notice since the deadline is well in advance of the event. Participating in at least one of these four swaps (see below) is part of the price of admission so everyone must participate in a swap (plus the shoebox table project, also required). You can, however, participate in any one, some or all of these swaps. Each of these swaps will include a +1 for a door prize. There are also two optional swaps.
NVR Card Front Swap - Final Count - 26
Arlene (arlenevita) will give you some guidance on this swap. See Post #8.
Recipe Swap Final Count - 19
Nancy (njbaker) will provide more information about 6x6 recipes. Info is in Post #10.
ATC Swap Final Count - 23
Karen (kmk24) will tell you more about Artist Trading Cards. Check Post #15.
SUO Demo Quality* Swap Final Count - 20
Check with Wendy (bearcollector) on this. See Post #14.
*This means only current Stampin Up! products can be used but you dont need to be a demo to participate. Remember that neither the Occasions Mini nor the Sale-A-Bration brochure will be current at the time of our swap.
Mandatory Shoebox (Table) Project Bring your idea and all the supplies (precut but not prestamped or prepunched) needed for making your project with a small group. Again, please use quality products. Well break the shoebox table projects into small groups. When our final count is in, you will know the table sizes. Tables will be set up to stamp the day away. You will need to bring four extra completed shoebox projects (which includes door prizes, hostess thank you, and one for your table so that everyone can follow it for directions). Participation in the table shoebox project is mandatory. This project will generally be a full card, with layers and embellishment(s). 3D projects are also welcome. Whatever the project, please plan that it take no more than 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Please provide any special adhesive that's needed. So, just to say it another way: Bring 4 completed projects + make up 8 packets of materials needed to make your project. Bring an extra if you want to make your own project and extras if you want to do some one-on-one swapping. Make these something youd be thrilled to get yourself. See also Post #208.
Optional Swaps These swaps are completely optional so its up to you if you want to play. These will also be +1 swaps.
6x6 Technique Card Swap Final Count - 11
Heidi (hlw966) is going to tell you about this in Post #9.
 3D Swap Final Count - 8
Sue (scrappingsue) will tell you about this one in Post #11. There are two groups of eight. You are in one group.
Twisted Swap Final Count - 21
Michele (tillyhead) will tell you about this one in Post #12.
Food Please indicate on the registration sheet the food item you will bring to share. Please be specific; dont just say food. Ideas: breakfast items, lunch items, including salads, desserts and snacks. We love to try your food specialties! Bottled water will be provided.
Make & Take for All Our CNY gatherings always feature several large group Make & Takes, so if you would prefer to provide one instead of making a food item or along with one, please tell me.
Garage Sale Bring your stamps and stamping supplies to sell or trade. Current Stampin Up! items must be offered for trade only; you can sell retired items. Sorry but we cant be responsible for missing items so bring things at your own risk.
Goodie Bags for everyone! Everyone will leave with a bag of fabulous goodies. Goodie bags will all have the same value with possible variations in colors, etc.
Door Prizes Donations from our own group are always welcome so let me know if youd like to make a door prize donation and what it is. We will be awarding the +1s from all of the swaps and the extras from the shoebox projects as door prizes.
Gift Swap You dont have to sign up for this one, but if you would like to participate, bring a gift related to our stamping passion. Everyone who brings one will also leave with one. Value on these should be in the $5-10 range, and stamped projects are always appreciated! If its something youd like to take home, its probably perfect! Be sure to include your name somewhere inside so the lucky winner knows who to thank. Please bring your gift in a plain brown wrapper (paper or plastic grocery bag is suggested). Youll need to be able to recognize yours, so feel free to otherwise decorate your bag or just add a ribbon. REMEMBER: Stamping-related!!!
Other Stuff Please bring your own labeled items for your personal stamping needs, including your favorite adhesive. These are the items you just cant stamp without, like: bone folder, paper cutter/scorer, scissors, straight edge, stamp cleaner and whatever else you can't stamp without! You will want lots of adhesive. Your cutter and scoring tool will be especially helpful at the May event.
Other things to remember: We're not running a race so SPEED is not the intent of the day. It is supposed to be a FUN day of stamping not seeing whether you can be the first one done. If you're done first, you will have ample opportunity to visit with your stamping friends or graze at the food tables. Please also remember to be POLITE when "passing"...and I don't mean passing a stamp. The day will end when it ends and pushing ahead of someone won't get you out the door any faster.
Make and wear a nametag with your name and your SCS name so that we know you on sight. There will be a nametag contest this time so keep that in mind when youre creating yours.
Don't forget your camera.
Complete the registration form and forward with your $25 payment ($26 via PayPal) by 5 pm on Wednesday, 3/30. All funds collected will be spent on the event. Your registration is complete when your payment is received. If you have any questions, please ask! Looking forward to seeing you in May.
Swap Etiquette -- Since we will all be swapping at least one item (card fronts -- info in post #8, demo quality card fronts -- post #14, recipes -- post #10, and/or ATCs -- post #15 ), I found some good general guidelines on SCS (which also apply to the optional swaps noted in posts 9, 11 & 12). I hope everyone will take these guidelines seriously so that we all make and receive wonderful swaps!
These are also good guidelines to keep in mind for your shoebox project, except that you're providing materials to make a full card rather than just a front and you won't need a "recipe".
1) Quality work -- This isn't about the quantity of layers or embellishments (please do use at least one embellishment and two layers), or whether you are new at this or not. "Quality" means straight cuts with no crooked, fuzzy edges, tears, wrinkles, etc. (unless that is part of the design), attaching your layers straight (again, unless part of your design), stamping images clearly with fully inked stamps, etc. If you make a noticeable mistake while stamping your swaps, turn the cardstock over, or cover with another layer. Last of all, quality means to use cardstock that is a nice weight not some flimsy stuff that has the feel of construction paper.
2) "Recipes" -- appreciated but not required. This means: your SCS name; your IRL name; listing the colors, stamp sets and embellishment you used; any techniques or tips you want to include. If you choose not to include a recipe, please include at least your name so we know who made your fab creation. Avery labels work great, but a plain piece of paper or your personalized stamp work just as well.
3) The only one of these swaps requiring all current Stampin' Up! products is the demo quality swap. All other swaps can use any quality stamps, cardstock, inks, etc. This is not the time to unload your cheap cardstock!
4) Would you like to receive your swap or make your shoebox project? Then it's PERFECT!
Please ask any questions you might have and someone will be sure to answer. We have all made a lot of great friends getting together at these gatherings so we hope you’ll join us at this one!
Resummarizing: Layers - at least two! Dig into those embellishments, give your fellow swappers a real treat! Put those punches to work! Have fun, try something different! Show some pride and put your name on the back!!
Food Info -- Please remember when making/purchasing your food item that you do not need enough to feed an army. There should be a very nice variety coming: donuts - cake - muffins - sticky buns - cookies - brownies - candy - chips & dip - specialty dips - casseroles/main dish items - salads and side dishes - bread & butter - cheese & crackers - fruit - and more. Beverages TBD (see registration form).
So, my suggestion is to make/bring a "normal" amount not a super size. I am sure there will still be leftovers but everyone should be able to find something they like. If you don't believe that to be the case, please feel free to pack a sandwich. We do have a refrigerator and stove available and there are plenty of outlets to plug in crockpots. There will NOT be a microwave available unless someone brings it!
Drinks -- There will be bottled water, coffee and iced tea. If you must have soda, please BYO.
REMINDER: If you are bringing something that is to be served HOT, please remember that there is NO microwave available. We will again have access to a refrigerator and stove (with oven).

DIRECTIONS to First United Church of East Syracuse, 823 Franklin Park Drive. Get the specifics from mapquest.com or randmcnally.com. But, generally speaking, most everyone will be taking Rte. 481 (from 81, 690 or 90) and exiting at Kirkville Road WEST (exit 5W). Franklin Park Drive is less than a mile from the exit and will be on your right. You will pass one light, two gas stations at the corner where the light is, and a school (Bishop Grimes). The church is just a short way up Franklin Park Drive and will also be on your right.
If you have headed in the wrong direction on Kirkville Road and get to that light, you will see a church on your left and houses on the right. That's Fremont Road; turn around and come back the other way.
When the event closes, this first page is where you will find all the updated info on the swaps, etc. Info will be updated as registrations arrive and the final details should be posted around 4/1.
Gift Swap -- Bring it in a "plain brown wrapper" (paper or plastic grocery bag is suggested) but set it apart in some way so you don't go home with the one you brought.
Tables -- Tables are assigned randomly when you arrive. If you really, really (really) need to be with your friend (I'm saying this more for the newbies), we will try to accommodate you but the random assignments really do make for a good way to make new friends. Plus, you and your friend(s) will have different projects to share. Well, unless you're randomly assigned to the same table. Then, you're welcome to ask someone at another table to switch with you.
NVR Cardfronts: FINAL # = 26 (25 + 1 DOOR PRIZE) See Post #3 for quality instructions! Let's see if we can come up with something really different and outside of your comfort zone for a change of pace! Try a theme that you don't see very often (teen and masculine cards are always lacking)! But most importantly of all - HAVE FUN  while you are making your cardfronts! Let your smile show in your quality work!

Reason: adding
This is a great way to get a set of 6"x6" references cards for some new and different techniques.
You will be making a 6" X 6" page with instructions for the technique of your choice and a sample of the finished techique somewhere on the page. An ATC sized sample works well.
If you are looking for a technique, the resources section is a good place to start. The list of past techniques that have already been done at CNY SCS events can be found in the attached Word document. Please check this list before choosing your technique (and keep in mind that the technique may have more than one name). PM me with any questions!

Reason: adding swappers of course!!
3D swap FINAL COUNT FOR EACH GROUP IS 8 THAT INCLUDES THE PLUS 1
3-D items are usually more involved and can be costly depending on your project. Therefore, we are going to have smaller groups for the 3-D swaps. We will decide on the final group numbers once there are a total number of participants. At this tiem all names are listed under group 1.
3-D items can be boxes, bags, frames, party favors, covered journals, notebooks and so much more. Check the SCS gallery for ideas. This is a great way to get new ideas for workshops or gift giving. If possible, please include a recipe or template, so everyone will have the pattern for your great project. The recipe/template is just a suggestion, not a necessity. If you plan on joining the 3-D Swap or have any questions fell free to send me a PM or email ([email protected]). Thanks! Sue
