Anyone have this? Is it similar or just as good as the ScorPal? I've wanted a scor pal for a while, but haven't gotten it. A friend gave me a $50 Michael's gift card for my birthday - and with a 40% off coupon I was eyeing this MS score board.
Is this a must have for my craft room? I've been using my paper trimmer with a scoring blade...but i find it's a pain to constantly switch the blades
I have the MS score board and LOVE it - with a coupon it's a great deal. I use it all the time! In addition to scoring cards you can use it to make envelopes - very easily. However I've never had opportunity to see a Scor-Pal in person so I don't have any comparisons. We live in a rural area and even our nearest Michaels is over an hour away. Enjoy your gift card :-)!
I have both products and use them both.. I like the Martha Stewart one because you have more line choices and they have template for envelopes that connects to the back (comes with)
The score pal isn't as sharp where sometimes the MS one tears my paper if I'm not careful (much narrower lines)
I bought a Martha Stewart Scoreboard a few months ago, only because I couldn't find the Scor-Pal. Then Diana, from Scor-Pal, sent me one so I can tell you about both. Overall, my choice is the Scor-Pal. It is built better, lines (grooves) are better and the tool doesn't tear your paper like MS. And when scoring a card just for folding in half, I get a line right where it is supposed to be. MS was always off for some reason. I used the MS one and it works, so if that's all you can get your hands on, it's worth it, but if you can order the Scor-Pal, that's the one I would go with. And remember to keep them on a flat table and not on your lap! They all jump the lines if not on a good surface.
i have both and must say i like the MS one better. more line choices. i have learned to hold the score tool more at an angle and go slow. i have had no problems with torn paper. using a coupon makes the MS a great purchase. i use my MS board every day.
I've used both, and I prefer the MS one. That's why I bought it (with a coupon). My friend, who owned the SP, returned hers and bought the MS after she tried mine.
I've never used a ScorPal. I absolutely love my MS scoreboard. I use a Making Memories bone folder to score with mainly because I lost the scoring tool that came with the board. I haven't used the envelope thing because I can't find it either. I guess I'd lose my head if it wasn't firmly attached to my neck. I just love my MS scoring board.

I bought the MS one with a Michael's coupon and I love it. I have not had the opportunity to use anything else to compare it to. The scoring tool that comes with the MS is more has a more pointed edge and I just use it on cardstock. I use a scoring tool with a more rounded edge when I use it on paper. The envelopes are simple and easy to make and has instructions for several different sizes of envelopes.
Have both. Got the ScorPal about 3 yrs ago - actually called the ScorPal number on the website & Diana walked me through how to use it! She even looked up stores in my area that carried the ScorPal.
Bought the MS with a coupon. IMHO the lines a too numerous - confusing to the eye. I used different color ultrafine Sharpies to highlight the grooves I would use most often - 4 1/4, etc. The scoring tool is uncomfortable to use so I use the embossing tool whose tip fits in the groove. When scoring, go slowly otherwise it is easy to jump out of the groove.
All in all, I 'use' the ScorPal. The MS is a backup that I keep in the original packaging and use sometimes. Needed a special color envelope this weekend for a card and someone told me the MS is easy to use to make envelopes. Followed the directions for the A2 and it was too deep but used the envelope anyway since I needed it that night.
I think the ScorPal is worth the difference in price - Just my humble opinion.
Thanks for everyone's inputs! I really would have like to get a scor pal, but I couldn't find them locally. So I got the MS one - which didn't cost me anything as I had a gift card AND a coupon
Part of my new years resolution was to get my stamping budget under control, and get the stamp room organized. So...most of the $ I would hav ehad for the scor pal is in part going to offset the cost of some new organizational stuff.
Maybe next year I can get the scor pal, but for now I think the MS will work. Cause c'mon, there is no such thing as having too many tools or stamps...always gotta have a backup
I've never tried a Score Board or Score Pal, but I can tell you I do like my MS scoreboard. Plus, with a coupon, you can't beat the price! I've been making a lot of medallions lately, and it sure makes all that scoring a breeze.

12" strip of patterned paper (whatever width you like--the diameter of the medallion will end up being twice the width of your strip). Score every 1/4". Sticky tape ends together. Flatten and use a hot glue gun to attach a circle to front and back.
I too have both -- my score board's measurements and grooves are not straight. I am sure I have a lemon. I am keeping it because I like the groove depth.

I haven't had problems with tearing paper yet like I did with my provocraft trimmer. As far as the envelopes, it doesn't offer a pattern for a 4 or 5 inch card envelope. I went to the website and no luck there either. But thanks to you tube:

Use a strong adhesive such as ATG tape or redline tape to hold your envelope together. Especially if you are mailing it.
I have them both...I use them for different things...what I love about the MS scoreboard is the ease of making my own envelopes. Love the instructions provided.

Have the new scor-pal and scor buddy..but purchased the MS board while visiting DD and card making was on the schedule.....have to say,,,,I would never give up my scor-pal...found the MS to be difficult to use(jumping lines, tearing paper, etc ) and a bit off on the measurements.....DD will keep and use the MS as it is what she will have....she also has the scor-buddy. But I will be glad to return home and use my scor-pal...I make envelopes with it too and find it easy to use even without the template provided by MS.

I have both the Score Pal and the MS board. I really like using my Score Pal for cardmaking, especially just the score line down the middle of lots of sheets of cardstock. You just slap the paper on and score. Not too many multiple lines to confuse you.
The same thing using the Score Pal when I make boxes. It just seems easier to score the 1" or 1-1/2" scores you usually have on boxes when there aren't so many lines to choose from.
That said, I really love the Martha board for making envelopes using the template that comes with it. There are some great tutorials on youtube showing exactly how to do it, and also giving some alternate measurements for different size envelopes. I like to use up my pattern paper stacks making envelopes with the pattern inside. Lots of papers that I would never use for a card look great inside an envelope. I think anything is more fun than plain white!

My mom has a MS that I have borrowed for making rosettes (like having the 1/4" markings) and I have the Scor-Pal. I would like a good combination of the two...1/4" markings of MS and the durability of the Scor-Pal. Also, dislike the MS bone folder. Hurts my fingers when doing lots of scoring.
I personally hate the scor pal and LOVE my Martha board.
I just do not get all the wierd scor lines on scor pal, it makes no sense to me!! I have tried several times but just give up! The MS board has lines every 1/8th so whatever mark I want I can make!
MS board is not as strongly made as the Scor Pal but I have not had any problems!
I love that the MS board has a little place to put your scorer, I use an embossing stylus rather than the tool. Also in that little pocket is instructions to make boxes and card sizes.
And it comes with an envelope maker too which is awesome!
The first MS ScoreBoard I had was a disaster. You could stab somebody with that bone folder and all the scoring tools I tried kept skipping grooves. I returned it. A couple of months later I decided to try again in case mine was a bad one and it was. I got the perfect MS ScoreBoard. I gave away my Scor-Pal. I absolutely adore my MS ScoreBoard and if you do a lot of paper artistry then it's a must in your toolbox. Working with those 1/8 inch grooved lines is a lot better than working with your ruler. I consider the MS Board a big ruler.
You can make a lot of beautiful background paper with this tool. Of course all your intricate type foldings if you do a lot of that type of work. If your only needing to score cards then I would just use your traditional methods like your paper trimmer, empty pen, knife, etc...
I use a lot of different scoring tools with the MS Scoreboard for different looks. I do use the bone folder that came with it most of the time. I have a delicate touch so it works for me. I also like using my stylus, my empty pen and even my tracing wheels.

I have the Scor-Pal (the older version), the Martha Stewart board and the Scor-Buddy. I use them all (for different projects) but if I could have only one, I'd have to vote for the Scor-Pal. However, if I hadn't already used the Scor-Pal, I'd have been perfectly content with the Martha Board.
I like the extra lines on the Martha board, and I love the envelope guide that comes with it for envelopes with pointy flaps. However, if I'm trying to make a custom envelope for a weird-size card, it's 1000% easier to do one with a square flap, which you don't need the guide for. I do sometimes find the extra lines on the Martha board confusing; and I just don't like the way the board feels when I'm scoring as much. And don't even get me started on the tool that comes with it - I switched that out for a bone folder almost immediately. However - the cost of the Martha Board makes it VERY attractive, and if I hadn't already purchased the Scor-Pal, I probably would have been more than happy with Martha's.
One thing that you can do with the Scor-Pal and Scor-Buddy that you can't with the Martha board is exactly score an 11" sheet of paper or cardstock into thirds. The Scor-boards have special markings for that (marked with a triangle). The Martha board has scores every 1/8", but to score into thirds, the lines don't fall on a 1/8" mark (you need to score every 3-2/3"). To be honest, that's not probably something you need to do very often when cardmaking, but it was really nice when I had a couple of hundred newletters to fold for work and brought my board in with me
I have the original SP and I love it. I use it all the time,for every project. Lately, I've been trying to use up a lot of odd sized envelopes and I don't have the ability to score in the right lace, or maybe I'm just math challenged. I thought it might be easier to do if I had the new board, but that may be a lousy reason to spend $30. What do you think?
i had both the older scor-pal and the MS. i loved the SP for its weight and quality, but it didnt have enough lines for me, so gave to a friends sister and bought the MS.
i Love it, use it all the time, my only wish is that it had the quality of weight to it as the SP................
i do have my eye on a scor-buddy tho...maybe for my annivesary this mo........ ;)
now, if you want som AWESOME projects to do with the scoring boards, SP is the go-to site! everything you cna think of is there!!

Have the new blue Score--Pal and an old Score Buddy love them both.....there's something to say about the MS and if the other choice is not available to you then get what you can and learn how to make the best of it. SP give's me the exactness that I personally need.

I can't compare the two, but I have wanted a ScorPal since they first came out. I am retired on a very limited fixed income and could not even approach the price of one. At the old price of almost$40, it was more than half my food budget for the month. Finally my niece gave me a $25 gift card for Amazon and I was able to get the Martha Stewart one. I love what I can do with it.
I have found that the scoring tool that comes with it is flimsy and doesn't work very well. I use a stylus with a small metal ball or a large bone folder. The groves aren't that deep and sometimes with thicker paper, whatever tool I use jumps the track. But overall, I am absolutely thrilled to have it since I wanted a scoring board for so long.
Glad you were finally able to get a scoreboard Skippet!! I need to look around and see what I have at home to use as a tool - shall defintely be practising first. Someone mentioned no having any problems when she went slowly - perhaps that's the key!!
I could never get a straight score with my scor-pal. Every single time I would have to trim off the edges of the card, because they were offset and crooked. My Martha Scoreboard gives me a perfect, straight score every time! However, I do not like MS tool, so I bought a scor-pal tool to use with my MS scoreboard. Best of both worlds! The MS scoreboard seems very sturdy to me.
How do you use the MS scoreboard without jumping the track on longer paper? Had to score some 11-12" paper today in class and it was a problem.

The key for me is to go slower than I would like!! While I am not fond of the scoring tool in the MS line, need to use it until I find a replacement. Tried the SU scoring tool the other day and loved it!! Good luck with your longer papers!
