Castle Hot Springs was a resort back in the late 1800s to possibly mid 1900s. The rich folk like the Vanderbilts, Fords, Rockefellers, Roosevelts, Wrigleys, etc would take a five hour bumpy stagecoach ride on a 24 mile dirt road to get to the resort. During WWII it was commissioned as a military hospital for the injured and supposedly John Kennedy recuperated there. Across from Castle Hot Springs on Salvation Peak flies the American Flag that was given special dispensation to fly 24 hours and is maintained by the American Boy Scouts. Many of the buildings have burned down and there is always talk of rebuilding the resort but so far nothing has happened. There are grounds keepers there at all times. This is the first time that I have seen it when it didn't have a lush green lawn.
