Default How easy is the Cricut Gypsy to use?

Does it come with instructions? I am not very good on the computer so I never have used the Design Studio I got free from a Provo Craft Promo. You downloaded the program but there were no instructions. I need something that is simple. Thanks in advane! Bev

Nope, I am pretty sure mine did not come with instructions. I LOVE mine, in fact, I cannot seem to use my Cricut without it now. LOL

Do you do well with online tutorials? If so, you tube has some great ones.

Honestly, I don't know if I found mine easier to use since I had used Design Studio previously or not. I have had mine for a couple of years so it is second nature to me now.

Ladies....The User Manual (instruction manual) for the Gypsy can be downloaded from the Cricut.com website. No, the manual is not included with the Gypsy tool.

It does take some time to work with it to understand all the buttons and what they mean on the screen.

My only complaint with it is that the screen is so tiny. Very difficult to see with older eyes. That's why I prefer the Design Studio. I do have both though. I use the Gypsy from time to time, just because I have it.

Love my gypsy. I had design studio and never used it because I didn't like the way it worked and since I have gotten my gypsy I have used my cricut more than ever, I even had to buy an expression. The only drawback is that once you link a cartridge to it you can't unlink it to sell it but I don't sell my carts anyway so it doesn't affect me.

I finally broke down and bought a gypsy just three weeks ago - I was seduced by the free cart promo. I'm not particularly tech-savvy and I've learned to use it. I watched some youtube videos and read the owners manual on-line. It wasn't brain surgery. And using the zoom function makes the tiny screen easy on my eyes.

I love my gypsy and doubt I could work the cricut without it now With any new electronic device, there is a learning curve (at least there is with me and I'm not tech savvy). I'd just suggest be patient with yourself, and watch lots and lots of videos. The cricut.com gypsy message board has a lot of information and there are a few gypsy gurus that I go to if I have a questions.

I decided to buy a gypsy for my birthday gift, waited over a month and a half to get something after my bday and finally settled on that. So glad that I got it. I find that it is extremely easy to use and really easy to figure out. I am very computer savvy though. I did download and look briefly at the manual from the cricut.com website but haven't had to look at it too close. The help with knowing what the icons all meant was the most useful. But seriously, playing with it for like 10-20 minutes is all it will take to figure it out.

You'll need to download the program cricutsync. Then you'll update your gypsy from that program. When you registered your gypsy, the system should've asked if you wanted to download this program (I say may because sometimes provo's website does funky things). Once you've updated your gypsy with this program, then you will see the six free cartridges on your gypsy (they will be black when you pull down the list of linked cartridges). HTH

Well I took the leap. Bought the Gypsy at Michaels for $99.99. Got silicone sleeve and 3 extra stylus' at %50 off each. Felt like the score of the year . Thrilled to pieces got it home and...My Gypsy does not work. The blue light comes on when I press the on button. Nothing else happens in fact I cannot turn it off..Some kind person on the cricut board said to unscrew the stylus and use the little "probe" in the cap to reset. That turned it off. Monday Morning will be spent getting through to Provocraft (not an easy task) I have dealt with them in the past and their customer service is good so I'm sure they will be helpful and worth the wait. Just wish I hadn't gotten a defective one in the first place. I guess you have to have good customer service if your products don't always work out of the box. Oh FYI Michaels will not accept a return on an open Gypsy.

Thanks Shelby68! I finally figured it out. Wouldn't it be easier if they included the instructions?

I've discovered that Provo Craft likes to keep its customers guessing

Oh, that's good. How are you supposed to know it doesn't work if you don't open the box? ESP? I hope everything works out for you.

If you've registered your machines with Provo, they have wonderful Customer Service if you need assistance with a defective machine.

Most stores won't take returns of the Provo machines, you just can deal directly with Provo. Just keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

I've had to call and return an Expression 2x and had no problem at all.

I had the same problem. I let the battery go dead, the machine shut itself off. When I turned it back on it was ok. HTH.

I am considering the Gypsy. Should I get Design Studio as well? I have Sure Cuts Alot. I have seen the Gypsy pretty cheap lately.

I bought mine at Michaels. Same thing happened. Took it back. Showed them the problem and they exchanged it. The new one worked just fine!!

Just an observation. I was in Mike's yesterday and there was a big sign on the door about what they wouldn't exchange and the GYPSY was listed. I guess I got mine exchanged before someone knew better!! :-)
