Tinfoil Tile With Shapeabilities

I'm re-working my kitchen (cosmetic stuff until we have a remodel in our budget) and I had hideous tile behind the stove. I used a foil decoupage technique to cover it all up. I've attached a thumbnail of a small section so you can see it, but more pics and a step-by-step are on my blog, as well as links to where I got the idea to begin with...

We're expecting company this weekend so I was kind of motivated, lol! Otherwise, it might have been an ongoing project for MONTHS! I still have to put a couple of coats of sealer on it so it's more durable and washable - we'll see how soon I get to that...

I wish I could do this on my sink counter back wall. I know water will get under it though. Behind the stove you can maybe get by with just wiping down. It looks
great. I have to ask, how long ago you repainted your counter top, I have bought the special paint, but, I'm chicken. I guess I don't trust my husband not to put a hot fry pan on it, or that it may not hold up as well, as anticipated.

In answer to both questions:

I used Royal Coat Decoupage Medium in Satin as the glue for the tile/foil project, and plan to coat it with a clear acrylic sealer (a couple of coats) to make it more durable/washable. My thought on doing this behind a sink is that the surface would be sealed all right, you'd just need to caulk around the edges and at the top and bottom so water couldn't get under it at those areas.

The Countertop Covering (Rustoleum) is holding up really well. It's been there for about a year now, and I only have two tiny little spots where it's sort of chipped/worn. I'm pretty good about using silicone pads or trivets under hot things, so I'm not sure what the long-term damage might be if I didn't. I've noticed that when it gets wet the color is lighter, but evens out again when it dries out. I definitely think it's worth it! I'm going to get a Q-tip or something and touch up the two "dings" and I expect that it will be fine (with that bit of touch-up) for another year or so, until we get around to an actual remodel...
