Recently I made the tumbled tiles - great fun!
And I will be making more in the future - stamps on order!

We used the SU craft ink pads & they are pigment inks, correct?
Their classic stamp pad is a water based dye ink.
We baked the tiles at 325 or 350 for 10 to 20 mins., and let them cool before spraying with Krylon to seal.
My question is this - what is the good, better or best type of ink to use when making the tumbled tiles?

There's a wonderful video on StampTV where GinaK recommends using Stazon (solvent) inks. You don't even have to bake them, and you can leave them unsealed so they remain absorbent. Hope this helps!

Laura, use a solvent ink pad to prevent the design from washing off or running unless you are planning on sealing the tiles. Your best bet is to go with Staz-On.
I use stazon, but normally finsh by spraying with a good matte acrylic sealer. If you wish the image to be alcohol reistant, especially if you are using a solvent based ink then use a good resin-based polyurethane varnish, this will provide the hardest acrylic finish available both for indoor and outdoor surfaces.
I would mention the one I use but I am new here and not sure if I am allowed to mention brands?
This is what I used on my tiles: Stazon and then spray a sealer on it. I would advise people if you have to wash them, use a damp cloth or hand wash them lightly. Don't need to scrub hard or the finish will come off! :cool:
DO NOT put them in the dish washer!
Oh, if you don't like your stamping job.... you can remove it to some extent with a cotton ball soaked in nail polish remover. Then use a new cotton ball again to remove the last bit. It will leave a stain of course.... then you would have to scrub it out with an old toothbrush as best as you can , let it dry completely and then try again. Stampajig would be handy if you need it.

I also have used SU's craft inks. These you do want to seal or bake.
I have one on my nightstand...been there for 5 years, rose red, regal rose, old olive...used all the time and it was baked. It has not smudged or faded!
I used Stazon for the ones I made for our daughter and she's even left them out on the patio during one heck of a rain storm and they still look like new and none of the ink ran.
