The CB plates measure 5 7/8" wide so I don't think the width would be the problem. The CB plates still have some tolerance of space to fit through the machine. I would be more worried about the length since CB plates are only 7 3/4" long. All of the SU letterpress plates are 8" long. So either you use the new CB extender plates, or just know that you will not be able to letterpress some of the full images. Most cards are not that big anyway so that may not be a deal breaker.
I tried the letterpress plates with the extender plates in my cuttlebug and couldn't find the "right" sandwich. At first, it wasn't thick enough, then too thick and I ended up squishing the letterpress image. Bummer. As long as I had already wrecked my letterpress, I continued to try different sandwiches including using rubber gasket as a shim but still couldn't get it to work properly. I also have to say that trying to "ink" the letterpress and then laying cardstock on it plus a plate on that is almost impossible to do without smearing or getting the image crooked. So far, that has been the only Stampin' Up product that I have not had success with in my cuttlebug. Hope this helps.

I watched Stampin' Up's video on YouTube of how to use the letterpress plates. They stuck the paper to a top plate with removable adhesive, so they could see where it was placed and the image didn't smear. Might be something to try! YouTube - Big Shot Letterpress Plates by Stampin' Up!
Thanks Jacki- I just watched the video and it was very helpful, especially about using the dotto so the paper doesn't move around. I guess I will have to just break down and buy the Big Shot someday soon and maybe I can sell my Cuttlebug.

Try using Versamark instead of the regular or craft inks and you might be happier with the result. I've been playing with Letterpress and the Big shot all day and fell in love with the Versamark. You can lightly press your paper into the Versamarked plate and the V stuff holds the paper in place somewhat. Out of dozens of pieces I created I only "smeared" once. Di Gibbs on her blog has an excellent video about using Versamark. Stunning results and way less messy than any of the other inks. After two days of play I've tossed out the idea of Craft ink and gone with Classic or Versamark. Got crisper images every time. Putting a blog post together today that might have some tips you can use. Now if I can just get all the images in place for it. Might have to make it a 3 parter post - LOL!
