Default Sure-Cuts-A-Lot

This is directed toward anyone who has the above program/download/etc...
Besides not having to purchase any more Cricut cartridges, is there any other benefit to purchasing this?
I'm trying to decide if I need this. (Notice I said NEED - I get need & want mixed up!!!!)
Thanks.

I have the Sure Cuts a Lot program. You are able to cut any font (TrueType) that is on your computer and also GROUP (weld) letters together to cut out a single word - none of that gluing one letter at a time business. That in itself is huge. So many free fonts available and now I understand for the first time - Dingbats. LOL So many dingbat fonts available for free, it boggles the mind. I have benefited greatly by the program. I often wonder why so many people would go out and purchase those expensive cartridges if you can get similar fonts for free - but to each his own. Here's a card I did with a free cut file of a bird cage: Look Ma - No Cartridge! by moonpie11 - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers
Here's another card I did with lady silhouette that was a free cut file:
Vintage Lady Silhouette by moonpie11 - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers
Basically, the amount of free cut files available on the internet is staggering. I have no affiliation with any company, just thought I'd share my own experience. I'm not a computer geek, but I feel the program has already paid for itself many times over in the money I have saved.
Now I can spend my money on fun embellishments. hehe
Hope this helped.
Deb

Hold on to your hat  - there are tons of svg freebies on this site!
Here's the silhouette of the Woman with the hat - I hope this link works:

There is also Make the Cut, a similar program. Both have trial versions. I would recommend downloading both and seeing which one you like best. They both have great forums with helpful people, too.

I have SCAL because that program was out first, and I saw no need to have two programs that essentially do the same thing. If you like coming up with your own ideas, you do NEED this! I hardly ever reach for a cart any more...

In research and thru my Friend's SCAL, I saw that it does the above mentioned as well as replaces the Jukebox, and Studio Design, and Gypsy if you use it on a laptop...

Thank you so very much. I knew that I would get some wonderful info, here on SCS. I think I will try the trial versions & go from there. (I am not computer literate, so I need to see if I can figure it out or if it too much for me.)
Again, thanks & God bless.

Check out http://svgcuts.com/blog/ which is a great place to buy SCAL and get files. There's free cutting files posted on the forum and some great packages for sale on their site that run $3.99 to $6.99 with many cutting files in each package. There's a labor day sale running now for 25% off your purchase.

They sell Sure Cuts A Lot and offer "TELEPHONE HELP" to answer any installation questions you run into. Leo also has video tutorials that walk you through using the program step by step. He is a great teacher and makes it easy to learn the program.

I have been buying from their site for about a year now and am a very happy customer.

Do you have the trial version of Design Studio? That's what I used to update the firmware on my Cricut machine.

Also, check out the videos on the Craft Edge website or on the svgcuts.com website. They walk you through the installation process.

I'm not sure it is available to purchase at any store. I got mine from:
www.scrappingtable.com I was able to download and begin using the program within minutes after my purchase using PayPal. She then later mails you the CD. I always do some research before buying a software program. She has great videos to answer any questions you may have. Look for "Helpful Videos" located on the left column of her home page. These videos are packed with lots of wonderful information. Also be sure to check out the "Frequent Questions."
I'm sure this will help you decide whether our not this program is for you.

I have Make the Cut, and I cannot tell you enough: YOU WANT THIS PROGRAM!!!!! Now, SCAL might be great, too... I don't know, because I chose MTC and never looked back.
I have never bought a cartridge, and I have made EVERYTHING I could possibly think I wanted. I have also downloaded hundreds of other free files, just in case ...

I must add my 2 cents... lol

I have Cricut Design Studio and SCAL, which I bought because I hated CDS. To me,CDS was a major waste of money. I fell in love with SCAL 2 minutes into downloading the trial and I've never looked back. The only cartridges I've bought since have been a few Disney ones since they are licensed images. Craft Edge has an excellent forum with TONS of images and if you need one you can't find, post about it and someone is sure to create it for you within a day or less. Amazing talent on that site too.

I just purchased SCAL and the video tutorials on line are wonderful. There are so many freebies available--and a great variety of image sets you can purchase for a few dollars. Plus, the online video tutorials are so helpful. I am a visual learner, so being able to watch someone show me the steps to take is more than worthwhile for me. So far, I am impressed and wish I would have looked into SCAL sooner. I purchased from scrappingtable, too.

OK, I've had my Cricut for a looonnngg time now and hardly ever use it. Last time was 1 1/2 years ago! I had put the CDS on it and really liked it. My problem was for every good cut I got, I got 3 or 4 botched ones! Really hated wasting all that CS! So, now I am thinking I should try it again and was wondering about SCAL. I know there are lots of threads on it but I didn't have time to read through all of them. So, my question is: I remember way back when.....if you had CDS and wanted SCAL you had to choose. You couldn't have both on the same computer. Is that still the case? And, if I purchase SCAL how do I size, rotate, move, etc. the images from the cartridges without using CDS? TIA
Oh, also, has anyone ever done a list of settings for different types of paper for the Cricut? You know, like they do for all the 'sandwiches' for the different die cut machines? If so can you point me in the right direction?
