please help with card wording - PLEASE!
I am helping to throw a baby shower for a friend. There are 8 hostesses all together and we have opted not to give the mom-to-be a gift because of the large amount of $ we spent on the shower. In other words the shower is our gift to her. I have made a card for her from the hostesses but I was wondering if any of you ladies had any ideas on how to word the card so she isn't wondering where her gift is. Any ideas would be helpful.

Maybe something along the lines of "We hope that this gift of baby shower memories will bring a smile when you look back?" (sorry, I probably shouldn't even try to come up with something with the day I've had!!, hehe....)

"You're wonderful, your baby will be wonderful blah blah blah and we hope you love our gift of the baby shower."
or go for the truth
"man, these things are expensive! Much more expensive than any baby stuff we could give you that you would have got duplicates of anyway!" ;-)

"We thought about the perfect baby shower gift, and then it came to us: What better gift than the opportunity for everyone who loves you and your little-one-to-be to come together to celebrate both of you? We know you'll agree that this is better than any gift we could have bought."

How about:
Thank you for helping us celebrate the upcoming birth of your new little angel by allowing us to give you our gift of your baby shower.
Or maybe a little "poem"
"A new little baby so tiny and sweet
is on the way for all of us to meet.
As God sends you this gift from Heaven above,
we too are gifting you with our love.
Your baby shower has been such a treat
to plan, decorate, cook and be sweet.
Thank you for accepting our gift of this shower,
and sharing with us the specialness of these hours".
Or something along those lines.......
Good luck and how kind of you and your friends to throw a baby shower. You're right, they are expensive.

This shower was split 8 ways? And it broke the bank? How expensive was it? Did you serve champagne and caviar? Give away tennis bracelet gift bags? Diamond tiaras?
What would you normally spend on the gift?

LOL...I wanna come to THAT baby shower!
I guess people dont have them in the free basement of the bank anymore and play the "how many squares of toilet paper will go around the belly?" game like we did at mine, huh? And I am sure no one serves homemade sheet cake and a bowl of punch anymore. And my son is only 14. I got some AWESOME stuff at my shower and the hostesses could afford to still get me a nice gift and we all had a super (albeit simple compared to what people expect today) time. But then I had my wedding reception in the church basement without food or alcohol, so what do I know?! LOL
It was super nice of you all to throw her a wonderful baby shower and I like many of the suggestions for wording you have gotten.
Honestly, I would probably still ask for $5 from each of the 8 hostesses and give her a $40 gift card to Kids R Us, Target, Walmart or something. She could use it later on diapers, formula, baby wipes, etc.

No champagne and caviar, tennis bracelets or tiaras. We each ended up spending around $60-$65 each on the shower. Some of the decorations for the shower are gifts (specifically requested by the mom-to-be) that will be used to decorate the nursery. This may not seem like a lot to some people but it is a lot to us. Normally I wouldn't spend that much on a baby gift. I wish I could but finances don't always allow it. I've done tons of showers before and I have to say this is the most I've ever spent on one and the others included a gift from the hostesses.
I decided to go with the poem. After talking it over with the other hostesses this is what they want to do as well. I'm also doing an 8x8 album with all of the leftover paper used to make some of the decorations and will complete that for her as a hostess gift. Pictures I take at the shower will be printed and put into the album.

Haley, it sounds like you've done a wonderful job planning all of this for your friend! If any member of the group does calligraphy (or just has gorgeous handwriting), that might be a pretty way to present the poem (and have a copy for the lovely album you're doing).
Enjoy your time together!

Oh, she will LOVE the scrapbook! When you have a baby its so hard to find the time to scrapbook and this way she can put the baby shower pictures right in!! that would be a wonderful and thoughtful gift from all of you. She sure is lucky to have wonderful friends like you!! And I liked the poem for the card, also.

It sounds like you did get a gift with the nursery items decorations and the album is a wonderful idea.

My thoughts exactly! 8 people and you can't spring for a gift? Maybe someone could make a diaper cake or something. Sorry...seems odd to me.

If you spent $60-$65 just on your part of this shower ( and the other hostesses did the same ) then I TOTALLY AGREE the shower IS your gift. Whew! You guys are good friends to put together something like this for the Mom-to-be.
Times are tough and money is tight all over so this gal is lucky to have friends like you all. And since you included nursery decorations requested by the Mom-to-be then, YES, those are gifts. Not to mention your time and energy. The scrapbook will be a wonderful "icing-on-the-cake" type gift. I'm glad you went with the poem...that was going to be my suggestion.
And GOOD JOB to the poster that came up with it!
