Default Do you still love punches?

Lately, I have gotten back into using my punches. Even with all the great die-cut machines, punches still have their place. I am particularly enjoying the Martha Stewart punches that fold out, do embossing and are designed for function like the photo corners. I love the layering punches as well. Are there any other punch enthusiasts out there? Please share your punch expertise. I know there are some very innovative ways to use our punches. I don't think one item replaces another. I love the die cut machines too, but I want to enjoy it all. Tell us what punches are great and how you use them.

I've been getting more into punches, just got an order in yesterday with 5 punches from Stampin' Up. I love punches that coordinate with stamps, cutting out images is a pain. Plus, I love all the new punches that are perfect for sentiments. Makes placement a lot easier. Plus if a sentiment doesn't stamp perfectly it's no big deal, I didn't ruin the whole card.

Can't wait to hear the ways that people use their punches.

Default I use punches

I use punches and especially like the border punches. This past week I had three border punches jam and I had to throw away. I have tried to keep them sharp and used them appropriately but 3 Fiskers were thrown in the garbage. I also like the Martha Stewert Dove and butterfly punches. I punch out of vellum (colored) and lightly accent with jel pens and use as embellishment on flowers. I raise the wings and stick only the body to the card

I have over 220 punches, so yes... you can say I'm a punch enthusiast. Although I have a lot of special shapes, the ones I reach for again and again are the basics - circles and squares. And I love my border punches.

I too reach for punches first before I reach for a sizzix die. But I love both.

Also a punch enthusiast - while I love my BigKick and dies, it is so much quicker and easier to punch out a stamped image than it is to line it up with a die and run it thru the machine.

I do like my punches too and use the MS border ones mostly although I have just recently bought a little Dovecraft heart punch and it's a real treat to use, it's so sharp it cuts equally well through thick card and as thin as vellum. It's a perfect size for making confetti to put into wedding/anniversary/engagement cards.

I do love to use my WRMK corner punch, haven't found a thing it doesn't cut through yet. I particularly like the deco edge.

Oh I love my punches---so easy to add something to a card--no sandwich hassles and easy centering etc. Also if you see THIS amazing website by Ellen Kemper you will be buying all the SU punches you can find to create the amazing things that she does. ;)

I just love my punches! I like them better than my nesties because they are so quick and easy to use.
I'd love to get a look at those new MS punches. I haven't had a change to check those out!

I also love punches that match stamps!

I totally agree with you. I love my circut but it is way faster to grab a punch if you need on quick shape. And I still love my big shot because it cuts chipboard and fabric so easily.

When I first started buying Nestabilities I thought I had found the solution to my desire for cut shapes and my limited storage space. I've since found that, while I love my Nestabilities (particularly the labels sets), there really is something wonderful about the ease and speed of a punch. Since I don't have dedicated space for my die-cut machine, I have to unpack it each time, and then carry it into another room where there is a table that I can set it on to use it, then pack it up again and move it back. I'm considering an over-the-door shoe-storage bag so that I can free up the shelf space where I currently keep my punches -- those suckers really do take up space!

I love punches. Very quick way to get a card done. More interesting way to display a greeting on the front of a card. Great for scrapbook embellishments. Did I say LOVE?

I love my punches especially my MS & SU edge punches.
I make 5" x 7" cards .
The Spellbinder borderabilities are only 5 & 1/2" long so they can only be used on the short side of the card.
The borderabilities grand dies are 12" long , but the die cut is generally too wide for most cards. That width works best for scrapbook pages

Sometimes I want a card to open portrait and other times landscape .
MS or SU edge punches can be used on any side of my cards regardless of the length of the edge.
I would not want to get rid of my punches or my Nesties. Each has a different use.

I am a "Punchaholic". I probably need to go in for some therapy or something. I absolutely love punches. I do find that if a punch will not go through easily or with just a little more leverage on the types of paper I use for cards I will not keep it. Namely...Papertrey, Stampin up, Gina K or Bazzill. I have been known to take a piece of paper with me and try it out in the store first. I make A2, 3x6, and 3x3 cards mostly.

I too love punches. They are just easy and fast....plain and simple! You can also create so much great punch art with them as well. I love the new large scallop circle and the upcoming new label punch from SU! I also use the modern label punch a lot!

I love my punches! In fact, I just did an Easter layout that had Cricut diecuts and punched flowers as the main embellishments. You can check out my blog for the video and/or to see the layout. After I cut out the large circles, I used my hand punches to punch all the little flowers. I used up every inch of that paper. I agree with many of the other posters who say that, although we have Cricuts and other machines, we will never give up our punches.

oh no!
next time , take a picture of the punch and attach to an email to fiskars warranty or customer service dept, explain that it doesnt work and you want a replacement, they should send a new one free and you shoudlnt have to send them the defective ones

i have had a trimmer( all the markings wiped off) and 2 punches replaced this way, and didnt have to mail anything back or pay anything.

I do love punches also but they do take up lots of room if you have heaps of 'em. Currently the ones I do have fit nicely into one drawer, not sure where I'd put any more 'cause I do love having things all together.

I just tried something new with my punches and BigShot. I punched 8 5-petal punches (SU) and then carefully placed them in my SU embossing folder and ran them through. In the past I have embossed a full card front and then punched out my shapes, but by punching first, you can emboss different coloured shapes on one pass-through.

I'm sure that lots of you have already tried this, but for those who haven't, give it a try some time.

And I do love my punches--so much easier than BigShot.

Yes, yes - I love my punches. I have a Cricut Expression that was smoking this weekend but I got online and bought a MS punch anyway. I also have Nesties but even so, a punch is faster than setting up your sandwich for your cutting machine A punch is so much more convenient when you need just a few of a shape.

All the tools I have serve their purpose but depending the amount I need, the time available and the use I am going to make of a shape determines, for me, what tool I will use.

WOW! I have loved my punches for many years now. I was purchasing the punches and creating "punch-art" instead of using stickers way back when. I used the large oak leaf and made poinsettas even made small ones using the small leaf punch. I have only recently began to purchase the SU punches. I haven't even attempted to create the punch art that Ellen has, but I am in awe of her talent. Like some one earlier said I love my CB, and my Sidekick, but I don't have the space to leave them out so that means unpacking, finding a place to set up and then put them away. Each tool we have has it's own purpose in our creativity. The punches have gotten so big and take so much space that I am a bit more choosy in what I purchase. I love the ideas I collect from all sources when it comes to my punches.
Have fun with them!

Have fun with them!

Estelle
What punch art does Ellen do? Where can I see it?
I don't have a dedicated stamping room either so the punches are great to use for a small punched shaped rather than taking out my CB and putting it away

Thanks
Barbara

Add me to the list of those who LOVE their punches. I have Cricut Expressions & Big Shot but usually reach for my punches first.
