The English Scene
By Mary Howarth.

A Saxon church, a glint of flint,
A broad-backed barn, a copper tint,
A dovecote round, a cedar tree,
A manor house, some topiary.
A glimpse of lawn, a family,
A dog or two, deck-chairs and tea,
A timbered pub, a village green,
A cricket match, the English scene . . .

Let England thus, forever be,
And I for one content will be.

My Daughter

As years advance, who'll with me bear
The trouble of domestic care
And all my joy and sorrow share
My daughter.
