I have been thinking that too. I think Cricut cartridges are starting to become the biggest offender, lol.

They are starting to look alike. I can barely keep track.

It makes it even more confusing when PTI and MFT started making totally cute dies too. Sigh... they are all slightly different and like Chickers089 said, we have to have them ALL!!

Yes 100 agree with the Nesties and punches, I just try to pick my favorites and buy but of course there is always the little voice telling me I need just one more.

Well, that explains it! I went into both Michaels and Joann's the other day with a coupon and there was just nothing I felt I wanted.

Some of those nesties look exactly alike. I was going through mine today and I took out two rectangular sets thinking I bought two the same but their numbers were different. One was 168 and the other 169. Looking closer I could see that maybe they were a hair difference in size but the overall design was exactly the same.

I know what you mean. There are only so many shapes and configurations that can be made into a die or punch or even stamps.

You are right. There are only so many ways to draw a butterfly or design a punch or set of Labels LOL

I don't have the issue with stamps YET , only because I don't own a gazillion.
I have only been at this a little over year and I have tried to be very selective so I would have a nice assortment.
I have stayed with solid colors for ribbon .

A lot of things have started to look the same. I try to stick with shapes and patterns that I can get the most milage out of. I have been tring to figure out the differnce between the Nesties circles and petite circles... trying to figure out if I could really use the petite circles.. I only have online vendors, so I can't just go to a store and take a better look. It is frustrating when you are trying to be good and you get something new home just to realize you might just have to take it back because it wasn't as different as you thought it might be.

The only difference is between Nestie SCALLOPED Classic and Petite circles. The scallops are wider on the classic style.
The plain circles (sm. & lg.) fit both scalloped sets.
If you only buy the sm. OR lg. of any set then you will have 1/4" between them for layering
If you buy both the sm. and lg. of each set you can layer them 1/8" apart.

If you only want to buy one set then buy the lg. set. After you cut out the circle then Emboss it and cut away the embossed ridge and you will have 1/8" for layering.

I also agree with the original poster, and I would add that after a while, all flowers look alike, too. I know there are roses and mums and violets, and that they really are different, but I don't make a lot of flowery cards, so they all fall under the same "flower" category that I'm not buying any more of. Well, not many, anyway. :-)

Oh yes...I have noticed that a while ago. Some main characters are all looking alike that it's hard for me to differentiate any more! I know there are trends, but wow. The funny thing is that when I try to draw something different, it doesn't sell well. lol! Go figure... ;)

I've felt the same for quite awile now. I kind of feel like a lot of cards look like scrapbook pages. No complaints against scrapbooking, I love it, but it used to be about the techniques.

I'm probably old school, but the techniques focus didn't seem so cookie cutter look alike. We didn't have the cool toys we have now that do our cutting for us and the embellishment were limited to brads, buttons, and stickers so where you got your WOW factor was in the way you applied the technique differently than others.

I have no need to go backwards, but I find I'm still a technique junky.

so true!! I agree. Just got into nesties and my bigkick dies, so it helps a lot that there's not TOOOOO much i have to have now ;)
and stamps, Oh man. I've been collecting SU! for over a decade, and they've rehashed so many themes/ideas. Saves me bucks for sure.

Oh Give it time :lol::lol:
You will be making a card and say to yourself, "I wish a had a square Nestie" then while making another card , "Oh, I wish I had a rectangle Nestie " or
" I should have bought the small (or large) set of these circles because what I have doesn't fit right". And before you know it you have "lots of sets" of Nesties

Spellbinders don't need to advertise. All they need is a member of the DT to get you to buy ONE set and it just keeps going from there

It has slowed my spending as well - now I wait a bit to see which one I"m gonna like better - at first I would buy one and then a few months later another "version" would come out that I would like better and I'd really want that one - thats how "they get us" LOL!

I 100% agree that things start looking alike...and I do think it has a lot to do with the nesties. They are lovely and save time, but in my opinion, they take away from the artistic, handmade nature of a card.

Having said that, if I were a demo, or making a large number of the same card, I would totally use them. Also, if you're sending a card to someone who doesn't make them, they probably haven't seen in a thousand times and will love it!

It's slowed down my buying too! I just passed up some great new stamps and dies because I already have similar images. When I get too many new supplies, it keeps me from using what I have on hand. The availability of so many products through the internet has changed stamping for sure!

I do the same thing quite often. I figured it was just me. I have so much stuff that I couldn't use it all if I wanted to. I am embarassed at all the Spellbinders and ef I have. What's bad is I haven't even used some of them. I have been trying to slow down but you know how that goes.

In my last SU order, I only ordered two stamp sets; the rest of the order was paper, inks, markers, etc. I'm still trying to pare down my stamps (see an earlier posting of mine -- hint hint :>) so try to buy ONLY those that I think I'll use a long time.

I think the OP has it right. Things are beginning to look the same and it is like others have said, when you have so much stuff, it is hard to justify yet another flower stamp when you have hundreds. It takes something really extraordinary for me to buy it.

I was in the craft store over the weekend (I needed to purchase a zipper) and as I looked through the punches I had to stop and think because I saw a punch I liked and I thought I had just purchased it. As it turned out I didn't have that particular punch, but it sure looked like the one I was thinking of.

These were the two punches I thought looked alike:

Slim Edger Scroll & Dots Punch | Overstock.com

Slim Edger Flower & Flourish Punch | Overstock.com

I know they are a little different, but they both have the same swirl look to them.

My stamp store is not my main living, it's a side thing, so I can afford to just design what stamps I would want if I was the buyer, and not pay too much attention to trends, but maybe that's why my store is still only a side thing!

I have noticed it quite a sometime back. But I think flowers are still not so bad since there are so many different specimens. My favourite is the PSX range but it's so difficult to find the entire set now even on ebay.

I have also noticed this. I can't find a decent horse stamp but if I wanted an owl they are ALL OVER the place.
