Default What Adhesive Do You Recomend?

Many of you might know that I've been making cards to sell at my church's Christmas Boutique, so you know that means I have a bunch of pre-made cards. But here's my problem, the pictures I've painted and matted are "lifting" from the mats, and some are just flat out peeling away. What is a good adhesive do you recomend or use? I use the Vario Tabs. I like the repositionability (sp?), but I Do need it to hold well too. Am I doing something wrong, or is my adhesive? I'm inclined to think it's my adhesive since I tend to use allot of tabs, because I'm a "Just in case" kind of pereson. But obviously it isn't enough. By the way, I live in the High Desert, so it can't possibly be the humidity..could it?!? Any help would be appreciated!!

Second Zipdry. I also like to use Zot Dots for small items. I picked up a ATG today at Michaels as well.

I'll have to try zip dry. I'm frustrated with my cards separating as well.

I love Zip Dry too. It never buckles paper, and it holds like crazy. I switch between Zip Dry and my ATG.

Here is a link to Scor-pal page: Zip Dry Paper Glue [Item# 801 ZipDry Glue] - US$5.99 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce They sell it too. IT is a wonderful clear glue. It never buckles your paper, if you have any excess come from underneath your layer - just wipe it off. It is really good.

I love my ATG, but I also run my brayer over the card to really adhere the layers, no matter which adhesive I use.

LOVE that stuff, but apparently so does every crafter around here since it's NEVER in stock and they won't let my order a full box of it. I'm ready to give up on it and go with the ATG.

I did a review for the ATG when i was still writing for the Scrap Review. You can read it here: The Scrap Review - Scrapbook Product Reviews

I use Zip Dry for a lot of things because once it is stuck, it's STUCK! I like the fact that if you use too much, once it's dry, you rub and voil, it comes off kinda like a booger. ;)

I also like the fine tip on the TomBow multi. It's good for reaching a tight spot if you've already got something stuck but it's lifting a bit.

For glitter, I'm a fan of SU's Two Way glue. Easy and quick and sticks pretty well. Not so much for chunky glitter, though.

I'm still searching for the "perfect glue"!

I do have a question for the AdTech users - I just bought a four pack at Tuesday Morning for $6.99 (is this a good price?) It says it goes on repositionable but sets permanent. WELL HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME PERMANENT? I made a card two days ago and it doesn't seem to have set.

I'm in a climate controlled room (68 degrees year round!) so I doubt it's the heat/humidity.

Any answers/help would be so appreciated!

TIA!

Brandi, I'm interested to hear what you use for chunky glitter. I JUST got some and of course the glitter from the mini too. I used tombow multi the other day and it worked but I thought it looked a bit muddy underneath and I don't like that it's kind of gooey still when it'd dry. Crystal effects?????

Any kind of repositionable adhesive is not good to use if you want it to be permanent......thus the term...repositionable. Yes, some do claim to become permanent after a time, but they still would not be as permanent as one that is meant to be permanent from the start.

I vote for Scor-Tape or ATG if you want things to stay PUT!

Oh wow! Thank you for all your help and product info!! I really, Really needed it!

I have never used Zipdry, although I have heard of it. But I didn't know it won't wrinkle your paper! That's what I like to hear. I'll look into it, thank you!

I have seen those ATG guns, but honestly, the fact that they are so huge, has kind of discouraged me from using them, because I don't have much space to put things. I don't have space for it, but I do hear only good things about it, when I do hear about it. Isn't this the gun that has 3 different kinds of adhesives?

Unfortunately for me, my local Walmart has removed 95% of their scrapbooking section, so I have never heard of AdTech tabs. I don't think I've seen them at my Micheals and JoAnns, since the name is unfamiliar to me. But theu sound great, and I love cheap!! I spend so much on paper and CS, I love to save money elsewhere!

I have heard of Score Tape, but it's pretty expensive for a tiny roll, don't you think? Or do they offer bigger rolls? I've love to hear more about this stuff, since I've never used it. A craft shop 1 hour away sells it but only 3 foot rolls for $8.99. I think that's kinda steep, don't you?

Thank you everyone! I'll look into Zipdry (hopefully Micheals and Jo's carried it, I don't think so, but I'll check), and consider the ATG And any other help is very appreciated if you can think of anything

Awww....I feel badly that you can't find it! I stock up with several packs at a time, as I see it. I feel the ATG gun would be too big and cumbersome for me to work with. I do also have a ProGlider...love it too!! My son gave it to me for Christmas!!

I have not tried the re-positionable kind. I think mine is the permanent kind. I shy away from re-positionable! As far as price...I think Walmart sells a 2 pack for $2.99

Actually scor-tape/Sookwang (same thing) is incredibly cost effective. I buy it from 7KidsCollegeFund, who gets it directly from the manufacture (Sookwang). It's called "Be Creative" tape. The rolls are 27 YARDS, so they are big and last a *long* time. You can tear it with your fingers, or cut it with scissors, and the back is not static-y like Terrifically Tacky tape is.

If you buy it from 7kids, here are the prices:
1/8" wide: $2.99
1/4" wide: $3.69
1/2" wide: $5.89
1" wide: $9.89
1.5" wide: $13.89
2.5" wide: $18.89
4.5" wide: $36.99
8.5"x11" sheets: $8.49 for 5 sheets

Shipping is VERY reasonable.

Most people use the 1/4" wide tape, and that is what I use the most of. I also have some sheets that I use in my digital die cutter. I have 1/8" on hand for skinny ribbon, and 1/2" on hand for things that need a bit wider.

Scor-tape is what I use a lot of - I also have Scotch Double Stick in a desk dispenser that I use if the layers are not dry embossed or too thick - it's cheap. Then for everything else, like die cuts or tiny letters or whatever, I use my Xyrons.

I got my online at scorepal.com.

I cennot remember how much I paid, but it was not bad for tyhe amount on each roll. I use it and NEVER have to reapply adhesive. It is worth the price!!

Mono multi for me too. I usually buy it at Hobby Lobby, either on sale or with a coupon. Then it only costs about $2 and some change.

I use the red Duck scrapbooking tape dispenser from Walmart (office supplies section) when I have to fasten ribbon.

I agree with you, Lynn!

You can slide it a bit after you attach it, then it sticks and I've never had anything come off. You only need a little bit too.

The cheapest place I've found to get it is scrapbook pal and if you spend $25 you get free shipping and sometimes they have a coupon for a free item as well. Here's a link:

My "go to" adhesives are my ATG, Mono Multi, and scor-tape, or 'Be Creative" tape, as I also purchase mine from 7 kids college fund. That is the one place I can usually shop for all 3 of those adhesives too, I like one stop shopping!

She also has a TON of other great goodies, terrific customer service and fast shipping.

I have zip dry, I tend to use that for buttons, or larger embellishments, but I find I'm not all that patient for it to dry, so sometimes I use zots dots instead.

I'll have to check out that glue from WM next time I'm out that way...

I used crystal effects once and I didn't really dig the look. Scor-tape is awesome for it but only if you want a line. I started using the SU sheets of adhesive. The ones that kinda look like a big orange sheet. They work great, too. They're not the easiest of the glitters to use, that's for sure.

ATG hands down.

I used Zip Dry for the first time at a friends house a few months ago. It was a brand new bottle and I have so say I was discouraged because it seemed "stringy" when I used it, it always had long strings of adhesive when I pulled up the bottle...maybe it is just me but I did not like it at all..

blessings.

You can always get the bigger roll - the 4.5" - of the Be Creative tape from 7Kids - it's 27 yards and should last you a really long time, plus you can use it in your digital die cutting machine or in a manual machine with dies, and apply glitter to the cut outs.

Ditto! You took the words right out of my mouth. I do not like Zip Dry at all. I have half a bottle I just need to chuck! I can't use the ATG. My hands are smaller than most children's hands (including my own kids), and that thing is just way too big for me. I am still using Kokuyo (my favorite adhesive on this earth). LOL! I have a HUGE stock to use. Hopefully I won't run out for a few years until someone makes something just as good!

I use the Pritt cartridges (I think it's the same as Duck - both are made by Henkel). I like it cuz it's really quick to use and relatively inexpensive. I go thru so many cartridges! I had been thinking of Zip Dry because of all the rave reviews I've read, so Amber and Patter's comments above are super welcome.

As for the Tombo Mono Multi Glue, is this a really quick tool? Lynn, you said you used it and your cards are always so amazing....does this stuff take long to dry? I don't have much patience, and considering the volume of cards I'm doing, I need something that goes down FAST!

At the Winter CHA, my friends and I got a sample of the new Scotch tape runner. I think it's a blue or dark purple dispenser. I've been hoarding mine, but my friends starting using it right away and they LOVE IT! They said it never breaks, goes on quick and smooth and they're totally in love with it. Unfortunately, they haven't been able to find the refills here locally.

I love my Scor-Tape, too; but it would be too expensive and too time consuming to use it exclusively for card layers. It is PERFECT for adhering the bows from my BowEasy, though...it's invisible under the ribbon, I never have to worry about my bows coming off and since I usually do double loop bows, I can position the tape on the back to keep the loops separated. I use the 1/8" for this and one roll will last me forever!

Thanks, Havonfamily, for starting this thread...all this info is so helpful! I suspect my next big purchase will be an ATG. Any ideas on who has the best prices??

LOL Your welcome KitKat55, I needed help too

I have Mono Glue and I don't care too much for it. But I am a little biased here though, since I can't seem to use glue with out making a mess everywhere But I did try some Score Tape, and LOVED it, but don't have money to use it everytime I need to use it on layers. So I may look into the ATG gun..hmm. Are the replacement cartridges expensive?

Cuccicoo1002, I too have used Zots, but I hate how it makes the card lumpy, but Love how it sticks! I use it on ribbons and things.

Patter, I'm interested in this Kokuyo. I've never heard of it before. Where do you get it?

I may have missed it, but Beacon's 3 in 1 is excellent. It does have some strings, but it dries fast and once it's dry it doesn't budge. Funny I just did a search and Beacons makes 3 in 1 advanced and Zip Dry. 3 in 1 is $4 for 4 oz. and Zip dry is $7 for 2 oz. For the price, I'll stick with 3 in 1 and I can always find it at Michael's with a coupon. Any one know if there is a difference between the two products?.

I had a customer use ADtec and it really does hold well and it's instant. If you need to move it a bit, forget it. She no longer uses ADtec for general use because it's so "unforgiving".

That's one of the reasons I like my Pritt so much....it's instant and it's gonna stick just fine (although I sometimes add some Scor-Tape to the edges of deep embossed layers), but if I need to move a layer, I can usually pry it up without much damage, regardless of how long it's been since I stuck it down. Just last night I was finishing a set of monogrammed notecards and on my final review, I realized I'd affixed the whole card layer to the BACK of the card! These cards include a Bible verse on the top half of the inside, and the way I'd put it together, it was upside down!! Oops....but I was able to pry off that whole layer and put it where it belonged without tearing the card back. I just had to use my magic eraser a little to get rid of the residual stickiness.

Whew! That was close.....

It is made by a Japanese company, and they are no longer sell it here in the U.S. I stocked up before everyone ran out. I have boxes and boxes of it, and I pray it lasts for a LONG time. The stuff is AMAZING!
