It all depends on the situation you use the chair in. It's totally a matter of personal preference based on your situation and comfort. Some people use just a stool. You may want/need arms or a high back.
To me the consideration is the height and moveability. I have no arms so I can move all the way up to the table for stamping/crafting. I want a swivel chair on wheels so I can move around my space without getting up.
Lighting is huge consideration also. I want lots of task lighting and overhead lighting.
My space is very small - a very small bedroom converted into my computer/craft room - so I use my computer chair. If I had to buy another chair, I would buy one without arms though. I love the high back and lower back support the chair gives as well as being able to move between my craft table and computer desk by just pushing myself across (I know its only 3 feet - how lazy can I get?). Also being able to swivel around to get into my cupboard were my craft supplies are is nice while still sitting in my chair.
My preference - height adjustable, high back, no arms. And wheels, if possible.
DH got me a chair like that some years back and it was wonderful, but like all gas-lift chairs it had a finite life-span. I've never got one as good since. The high back was just great.

I actually use a rolling desk chair with the back taken off....so rolling, cushy, but no back or arms for me. It also swivels, so I can turn easily to get to what I need. I ain't pretty, but it works great!
OMGosh! Leisa, I do the same thing!!!! My computer is in the same room, and I use an executive office chair for that. Having the "little" chair is just PERFECT for stamping, though!
I don't lean back either...in fact, I mostly stand! But when I do sit down I love the fact that my chair swivels, has lots of cushion, arms if I need to 'ponder' for a little while, and will lift as high as I need it to. Mine is an executive office chair from Office Depot---on sale, but I really like it!
I got a new chair last year...I got an adjustable drafting chair as it will go higher than a standard office chair...With a back, no arms to get in my way...

I don't lean back either... But when I do sit down I love the fact that my chair swivels, has lots of cushion, arms if I need to 'ponder' for a little while, and will lift as high as I need it to.
Me too - - my chair is the smaller "secretary" chair; I have a larger exec style chair for my computer work station. I like the secretary chair for stamping because it is smaller as I have less space for swilveling in my stamp area.
Most of the time I stand. If I sit I usually sit on a stability ball or a folding chair. We have a rolling chair in the office/craft room but I do not like arms on my chair. I do like the stability ball it is comfy and at least it is getting some use since I never use it for a workout.

I usually stand and craft too, but then my work table is very high. I did buy a cushy bar type stool for those times when I want to sit............now if it had wheels I would probably sit more. You know how it is when sitting something is just out of reach. I like the idea of a drafting stool for when I lower my work space (some year) then I will want to be a bit higher than a normal chair. Love having all that storage space under the work counter.
I have a wooden white rolling, swiveling, height adjustable, armless chair. It looks exactly like the one you see in the Pottery Barn catalog but for a lot less from Overstock.com. I like having the back for when I'm pondering but I like not having arms for being able to reach my supplies. DH hit a homerun with the chair as my "wood" anniversary gift a few years ago.
I have the plastic ergonomic swivel rolling white chair from Ikea that I put one of the upsie daisy kling things on the back of. It was a wonderful birthday gift from a friend of mine this spring. I love it.
I prefer a raised table so I can stand and not have to bent over. It is perfect for using a paper cutter, ScorPal and BigKick. When I do sit, I prefer a stool.
I like a "casual" chair more - so no arms and low back is what works for me; I think what is comfortable to a person depends on his/her physical personality. So it goes without saying that you should sit on different kinds of chairs and see what works for you and for your space. I got mine from Ikea.

I agree! A "task" chair without arms works best for me too. I have one in which I've placed a "Krafter's Komfycushion" on which gives me extra padding for my rear and 3 pockets on each side to store additional materials.

I use a ratty old office small back executive chair that I salvaged from the trash pile at work and just love it. It kinda rocks, has arms and rolls around. My craft table is also my personal work table, so it is perfect to get it all done.

I use a swivel chair with no arms too. Got it from work when they got new ones. Goes tall or short. Love the rollers to go from computer to work table.
I have an office chair from Ikea. It has short arms for just my elbows, it swivels and tilts the seat forward (essential for leaning forward to work). I got a super nice heavy plastic piece for the chair to roll on from Costco. Makes everything work smooth and easy to clean.
I use an old office chair with a back and arms that my son left to me
when he joined the army. Actually, it is much too big for my tiny craft
room. I used to use an antique drafting table with a bar stool - I'm short,
so that is when I was the most comfortable. My other son is using that
now, since he is into art too - maybe I'll just have to take it back! lol

When I looked at the title of the post I thought u were looking for a chair to stamp on :P
I don't sit when I stamp or make cards but I do sit when I do beading. I prefer to be able to move about as my big shot and templates will all be on the floor away from the table (good exercise). I like chairs with backing bcs when I ponder I will lean back but my arms can be anywhere so no need for arm rest.

I have an old singer sewing stool that would came with an old black singer. Actually I collect old singers so I have 3...two in my stamp room and one by my loom. They are the perfect height for me, no back or arms to tangle up in, and a hiding place under the seat for secret storage. My mom uses one in her stamp room too.
I also use a drafting chair that I got at Office Max. Trouble was, I kept "locking" the casters whenever I rested my feet on the rung. I tried taping the locks in the open position, which was a useless and obviously dumb idea. Finally, I switched casters with a different chair that doesn't have locking wheels, and my life is much better! I can swivel, scoot, push, and stand with no problems at all. Also, my stamping desk is from JoAnns, online, and is a pretty high working surface, but I really like both - now! I've contemplated purchasing a drafting table, for coloring, etc., but really don't want anything else in my stamp room, now that I've finally gotten organized and don't have to trip over everything when I go to look for a punch or whatever.
I also stand most of the time. My husband bought me from the internet a swivel stool that the dentist use. I loved it. It's adjustable. Then he bought me a very large craft table that was taller than the one I had before and the stool will not reach the hight I needed. I am short............:o)
I bought my self another stool that it has great adjustable hights, swivels, armless, from Bed Bath and Beyond. I love it.

I am also looking for a good chair - mine has lost 3 screws that hold the seat on and the last one is stripped so I keep having to put it back in and then it works its way out... over and over - one day I was so "into" my work I hardly noticed that I was sitting on the seat pad dangling on the metal bar! Yikes! i guess it's time to ditch and move on!
ps - it also has striping of some glue from my kids and glitter here and there from projects! ahhh, the memories it keeps!
I generally stand and work....I do have a stool that I plop myself on when I color...seems to help me be a little more accurate and stable, coloring outside the lines at my age just is not cool,lol.
Before my back surgery, sitting was impossible, but my stamping table was not high enough to stand comfortably, so I got one of the ergonomically designed chairs where you are more kneeling and resting your bottom against the "seat" and continue to use it even now that my back surgery was successful and I am able to sit. It rolls, is small, and is height adjustable--other things I love about it. Got it at Staples and it was quite reasonable in price.
