I think he's trying to take over the world. Kinda like Martha back in the day. LOL! That looks like a wicked cool machine but since I already have a bigshot, I was more taken with all of those awesome dies and folders he's got on there too....oooooh, my achin' wallet. LOL!

Yeah, but unlike Martha, Tim Holtz's style appeals to a huge range of ages and both genders. My teenage son thinks Tim's papers, etc. are awesome (that's not the exact term he used, but I'm not totally up on the "in" lingo of that age group but that was the jist of what he said.) My younger daughter loves his work, too, and I can't get enough of the products he puts out. I already have the Cuttlebug and Big Shot, so I won't be getting Tim's machine, but I do love how it looks. Can't wait to get my hands on some of the other products, though. Tim Holtz is an amazing artist (and business person).

Am I the only one who doesn't like the look of this machine? It looks like the inside of a tank to me. Definately not my style.

I think it's kinda' cool looking. It's supposed to look like an old suitcase and I think he and Sizzix managed to pull it off. But it's definitely a "flavor"...you either like it or you don't.

I for one would much rather have this than the "Hello Kitty" Big Shot! But to each his own.

I am more interested in what it is capable of cutting. Sounds like a Big Shot on steroids! Would LOVE to be able to get it but I fear it's about twice as expensive as I want to go on a cutting system; and I doubt it will ever be available with a 40% or 50% off coupon from Michael's!

I can say I really do not care what the die cut machine looks like, as long as it is built from quality materials, and it works and does what it is supposed to do. It can be orange and purple with green polka dots if it wants to!

I really don't get why we need another die cutting machine that does exactly the same as the big shot but will be a lot more expensive?

I don't like it at all, but I like one or two of the dies.

I've never been a fan of the Tim Holz stuff. It just looks too gothic to me. I prefer pretty. But I do see where it would apeal to the younger sect.

I don't exactly fall into the "younger" sect anymore (although not exactly the elderly sect either but I totally love Tim Holtz stuff, but I've always been a fan of the grunge/graphic type of design ever since I was a kid. That's one style preference for me that has never changed, only that products that match that style are much more readily available now, which I'm thankful for.

I feel the style or color of a machine doesn't have any bearing on the quality of the machine. What the machine looks like does not effect how it functions. I go for function of my craft tools and not fashion. Everything can not be done in just one color (or shades of that color). Styles and color do have to change to some extent to remain interesting.

I am not a fan of the style of finished items Tim Holtz puts out. Not sure what the style is called, but I am not a fan anyway. I do however, like many of the products he puts out or has in the past. I just choose to use them to suit my own style of cards. No, I wouldn't purchase his stamps though.

Many of the past products that he has been associated with, I currently use and will continue to use unless I am no longer able to purchase them. The quality of those products are great!

I like the fact that it folds into its own case. It has a much better footprint than the Big Shot. Better for those with limited space. It is definitely a "look."

The machine is cool looking, but I already have the Big Shot. Though, I will NEED to get some of his dies and folders. That man is a dream, he's good looking and he stamps!!

i was about to buy the cuttlebug before CHF had their big announcement and i decided i wanted those stamps before it was too late.so a diecut is still on my list and the things he says it will handle definitely makes it worth more.i have time to decide about october/november.

The look of items does matter to me though. Not just functionality. I have my items out in the open, I'm a pink girly girl. I even have a pink and black big shot. This machine would really look out of place in my work area. I'll stick with my big shot I think.

I like the look of the case, but for my stamp room. As for Tim's style, there are things I love and things I'm not too fond.

I have 4 of his newer folders and love them.
Hate grunge board but I'm going to give it one more try

I'm not sure I want anything motorized - I have thoughts of costly repairs. I see this as being the next hot "got to have it or my world cease as I know it" kind of item. I'll just stay with my trusty BS.

I'm excited to see how it'll cut thru chipboard (the real stuff, not light), canvas, etc., My BS can't really cut thru canvas.

This machine is so ugly to me. There is no way I would buy this eyesore and I would never have it in my beautiful craft room. I don't care if it is the best die cutting machine in the world. I don't care if it can cut through marble. I am a visual person. I love vintage, but this is too masculine and too ugly for my taste.

Have you tried using a paper shim to make the fit tighter? I just made a bag with my big shot and it was all canvas. I was able to cut out 5 layers of canvas at once using the scallop square die. Here's the bag: The Squareheadedstamper: Bags, bags, BAGS!!!

I've been cruising around looking at more of the Tim Holtz stuff coming out and, WOW! Grunge is not necessarily my style but I see potential in a lot of his stuff!

OMG!!! That bag is FABULOUS!!! Can you share your sandwich when cutting with thin dies? (Nesties, PTI) I swear I've tried all different kinds of shim and could not get a clean cut.

I really like it that the vagabond folds up the same way - it requires a fraction of the footprint taken up by the Big Shot. I also like it that it's electric! And I think it looks really cool once you add all the travel stickers that come with it!!

I think he refers to his style as vintage grunge. Not for everyone, but neither is whimsical or cute!

Sorry, I just saw this! I only have one set of Nesties and have never tried cutting fabric with them. I used the square scallop die from Stampin' up! It's SU exclusive so you'd have to contact your local demo to get it. I use it for SO many things. It's a really versatile die. HTH and thanks for looking!

I feel the whole issue is the look of his machine. It still functions the same as any other manual die cutting machine.

The BIGkick will cut through leather and canvas and anything else I've tried. I can't say about the BigShot, but I believe it should also do the same. The Cuttlebug may not get through all the same materials, but is billed to do the same.

If you have space concerns, the BIGkick or BigShot can be stored on it's end and therefore will take up even less space than the Cuttlebug.

Yes, I have the BIGkick and Cuttlebug and also Cricut and Expression. Of the manual machines, I do use the BIGkick most since it is a sturdier machine.

Getting back to Tim's new machine....his is all in the look of it. Personally, though I love some of the other products he has been associated with in the Ranger line, I have no use for this die cutting machine since it's exactly the same as the ones I have. I am all for function and don't have concern for fashion in respect to the look of my machines.

I think it's fabulous and I love the looks...it's a matter of peference I think the design is brilliant and the fact I don't have to crank it thru is a plus when my arthritis flares up.... and it appears to be sturdier than my cuttlebug..
but all that said, I won't be getting any new machine until my cuttlebug kicks it. I don't cut enough heavy stuff like acrylic or book board to warrant another machine now. I personally wish there would be a machine that cuts the size the Grand Calibur will but would allow the use of the Bigz and Sixxiz dies as well.

There are times I wish the mass production and marketing blitz of all these new machines and gagdets and all would just a break. The whole cycle of new new new seems to be just more consumerism dressed up in a nice package. I get caught up in it too but then there are moments of clarity when I look a the amount of STUFF I have accumulated and the corresponding amount of money spent on my hobby...kinda scary.

I contacted Spellbinders to ask about the Grand Calibur. They said it will be able to use Bigz dies but they have not worked out the sandwich. They will probably need to make a different thickness cutting plate to accommodate the thick dies.

Exactly! And since I'm one of those increasing numbers of scrappers that are tired of PINK and BLUE on everything, this really will fit into my more traditional scrapbook room decor of black, woodtones and jewel toned colours. One can also paint it. He said that he made sure the finish was one where you could paint it easily or do whatever you want with it actually but not affect the final product that the machine produces.

It's supposed to be able to cut thick chipboard, which is why it has taken so long to get on the market. He has worked with Sizzix over and over on getting the specs right.

Since Tim abhors pink and pale blue, I really didn't expect anything different. This is so "Tim"! Like he said last summer at CKU... He designs for himself and those that like it do, and those that don't... "oh well".. LOL!

I can't stand pink. I have red hair and was stuffed into pink one too many times as a child, which made auburn hair look like carrots on fire!

I, too, am always pleased to see items in a color other than pink. One of the reasons I like Oh My Crafts so much is they offer products in exclusive colors - a black iTop tool, a dark blue Cinch, etc.

The main thing about Tim's machine for me are footprint (love it) and capabilities. He has ensured the motor is strong enough to go through heavy duty materials. I would like an electric machine as I have carpal tunnel and beginnings of arthritis. Tim's Vagabond looks pretty good to me! Now I just need to figure out how to PAY for it!

The only thing I'd like to find out is how wide the carriage is. Now that the Grand Nestabilities are out, the width has suddenly become important!

@lynnephelps.....I'm not positive but it looks the same width as a Big Shot or Big Kick. In the video I saw about the new Spellbinders machine "The Grand Calibur" I heard the lady say it would take a full sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 paper; meaning it can take things up to 8 1/2 inches wide.
