Default What can you tell me about the new Spellbinders machine...?

The new Grand Excalibur that is being introduced at CHA-S... What is the cutting size? Same as/wider? than the Big Shot? I'm loving the larger sizes of all our favorite Nestabilities - but what sizes are they?

I imagine most of the DT is at the show right now. Will there be a video this week?

Anyone else intrigued?

I am happy you asked this question. I just saw a picture of it on Scrap-Mart. It says it cuts up to 8" dies and will accept all of the other dies too.
They also have pictures of a few new Grand size dies too . The new dies sets are expensive. $50 regular price for each set

It looks like it like a manual roller machine , but I am just guessing

I love the idea of larger dies, but yet another die cutting machine to buy
I need to win the lottery to keep up with this hobby !!

I know...(sigh) another die cutting machine to buy. Apparently these dies will be (for the most part) too big for the Big Shot. Still interested, of course, and I did see this on Scrap-Mart.

If you find a video or other info let me know.
This isn't just another die cutting machine and dies, but cutting mats and all the other gear. sigh

But I sure do like the idea of larger dies

You are right the new dies will be too wide to fit in a Bigshot, Cuttlebug or Wizard .

Did I say I re-e-e-eally like the idea of larger dies :lol:

I love that machine. I love the way they used the big shapes on the scrapbook pages. I wonder when it is available and how much it is going to cost. I only have the cuttlebug and refused to invest in another manual machine until now. This makes me want to trade in my cuttlebug.

Here is the limited info and prices from Scrap-Mart. It is pre-order
So far no sizes listed for the dies. The Spellbinder Blog says it will cut up to 8 1/2" dies and accommodate 8 1/2" x 11" paper

Scrap-mart - Grand Excalibur

I can see I want one of these. However, I would still keep my CB and use it for the smaller nesties. I am sure the replacement cutting mats for the Grand Calibur will be more expensive so I would only use it for the larger dies until the CB gives out. Just my logic

Know you can't compare, but the Grand Calibur would definitely be my choice over Tim's Vagabond machine: much cheaper, non-electric, already have the Big Shot, and ....if it cuts and embosses like my Wizard, well, there you have it!

Well, while I am always happy to see new toys, enough is enough on the die-cutting machines. I LOVE my BigShot, and my Cricut Exp will be more than happy to cut the ones larger than 8"...
Anyone else tired of the spend, spend, spend mentality for the same things? Now, give me a tool that does something truly different, and I am ALL OVER IT!

I couldn't agree with you more, Molly! The size is extremely exciting! And from looking at Scrap-Mart's preorder - pretty affordable!

Just checked the Spellbinders site and the Grand Caliber is 129.99. Did not
look at the Grand diecuts price yet. Like the regular ones if cannot use
the Grand ones in the Cuttlebug!

I found this on the Spellbinders site: "Compatible with Sizzlets, Cuttlebug, and Quickuts dies, as well as Cuttlebug Embossing Folders and Fiskars Texture Plates." That's it, gotta have one....

For the price of the machine, I think I will go with a Big Shot Pro instead of the Grand Calibur - because it will take the huge Sizzix Dies as well, and the BSP will still take all the new Spellbinders Grand dies too. It will feed a 12x12 paper instead of 8.5x11, and you have more options. The Spellbinders Grand Calibur is $325 and the Sizzix BSP is $349, so not much more but you get a ton more features for that extra $25.

Edit: Nevermind, just saw that the $325 price was a bundle with a bunch of dies as well. I think I'll still save up the extra and get the Sizzix BSP but this looks like a really cool little machine.

That really is a great price, I was thinking for $325 there would be no way they could outsell the BSP, but for $129 retail they can certainly sell a bunch...especially once it's been out awhile and stores start discounting them!

Very exciting to have those BIG nesties available - can't wait until next year (when I plan to get my BSP) and start buying those big Nesties up! I'm thinking shaped cards....photo frames.....BOXES!

Sorry, got a little carried away there. I like boxes. Can you tell?

Thanks for the video !! I am also very excited about the Grand Nesties !
Two nights ago I was making a card . I had already stamped and colored the image. I didn't have a Labels that would fit around the image. I ended up just cutting and matting a rectangle . I was wishing out loud they would offer larger Labels!!
I am sure this has happened to a lot of us .

I wonder if the $129 for the machine includes all the larger mats you need and I wonder how much replacement mats cost.

The woman on the video showed all the mats you get . The base mat, cutting mat, embossing mat and tan mat
Scrap-Mart has the machine for $97.50

I don't see any replacement mats on their site , yet

So happy you linked the video!!! It appears to roll through sooooo smoothly, doesn't It? Interesting that this doesn't require a spacer plate. I'm just about sold on this machine!

I have a Big Shot Pro, so I can't wait to get my hands on the Grand Nesties.

For about $100, I think the Calibur is a good buy.

Do you do a lot of Scrapbooking or just make cards?

The BigShot Pro looks very well made, but it is large and I don't know where I would store it. Plus I only make cards, so would I use it enough to justify the investment ? The BigShot Pro costs quite a bit more than the new Grand Calibur , but it has different features.
It doesn't look like the Grand Calibur will accommodate the thick SU BigZ dies. I may be wrong .

I would love to read opinions on what people think will be the advantages of the BigShot Pro vs the Grand Calibur .

I sent an email to Laura at Scrap-Mart to inquire if all of the mats including the tan mat comes with the machine . She send a reply. Yes. You get everything you need to cut and emboss .

Scrapyland has the sizes of most of the new Grand dies on their site

Spellbinders September Arrivals

I think most of the dies are too large for card making. :(
They will be great for Scrap-bookers.
I can't see myself spending that much money for just one or two dies in a set that will work for card making.
Oh poo!!:( That took the air out of my excitement

I loved the idea of larger dies , but not that large
I don't do scrapbooks

I agree. This would be great for scrapping but I have been so out of scrapping for a while now so can't justify the costs. Maybe once I get back into scrapping.....

I am wondering if this will just work with the nesties or if you can also use the sizzix dies and cuttlebug embossing folders too?

Hmmm.....I too have a Big Shot Pro, so I'm going to pass on the machine. But the die look really interesting. But at that price I'm going to have to pick and choose carefully.

I might have my sweet friend order one of these for me...not sure yet. The cost for wholesalers is like $65.00. The dies are $25.00. I like the thought of larger die cuts..Could make the die cut a card all by itself. Interesting...Since my friend already ordered one, I will wait to see what she things first.
blessings.

I saw a video with this machine earlier today. Very interesting and I am loving the new dies. So many fun designs and I like the larger versions. I do scrapbook and think they would be fun for cards and scrapbooking.

Question for any of you design team ladies: Is the smallest shape of each set, like say the circles, a size up from the largest nestability circle currently available or is there a gap between the large circles and grand circles? I've often wished I had a die just a bit bigger than the largest one for large images.

Oh, i found the answer on the Spellbinders site. There is an inch between the largest of the regular nestability circle and the smallest of the new dies.

All the sizes of the new Grand dies are listed on Scrapyland
Spellbinders September Arrivals

I also was excited about the idea of having dies a bit larger than the current Nesties. There are times when the largest die is not large enough to accommodate an image.

Then I checked the sizes on Scrapyland and found that only two dies in each set would work for me.
I don't do scrapbooking and the cost of the Grand dies is way too high for me to just get two dies that I would use.
I am very disappointed, but I can't spend $37.50 ( discount price) for just 2 dies . :(
So they are off the wish list

I read that they start where the original sizes leave off...now darn if I can remember where I read that. I'll search and link back if I can find it.
