Default Friskers Trimmer help!

Hey Girls,

Ive been so frustrated with my trimmer lately and I just dont know what im doing wrong! I only got it about 3 months ago and Im getting the fury edge thing going on! I dont know why I cant get it to do the right thing :(

I was looking into a new type of trimmer last week but was over whelmed

Could you please offer suggestions on what Im doing wrong or a new trimmer to get (I am starting as a SU demo soon, so do they have one or a preferred one?)

Thanks heaps

I can't answer the question about which trimmer SU demos use or prefer, but I can suggest something that might help with your Fiskars trimmer.

Wipe the edge with an alcohol wipe or "goo gone" (to make sure you don't have anything gumming up the blade.

Next, try cutting several sheets of aluminum foil and follow it up with wax paper. This should help to sharpen, then lubricate.

If all else fails, depending upon which model of Fiskars' trimmer you have, they do sell replacement blades and cutting strips that are easy to install.

Hope that helps!

I have a Fiskars trimmer and I love it - - you need to change out your blade. That will solve your problem. I make a lot of cards and I change my blade at least once a month...maybe more. The second I see the "furry edge" as you are describing that means it's time for a new blade. JoAnn's has these on sale 40% off often - - I stock up then so that I am never stuck without one.

I agree. The same thing was happening to me and as soon as I changed the blade it was fine. If you use it alot (and who doesn't?) then you need to change the blade often.

You can prolong the life of your blade by putting scrap paper under what you are cutting. That way the scrap paper will get the fuzzy edges and the top sheet will be a clean cut. It's a bit of a pain, but it makes the blades last about 10 times longer.

If you have one of the smaller Fiskars trimmers that uses the little orange square blades, you can turn the blade around & use the opposite side of it until that edge of the blade gets dull. Then it's a good time to start looking for a deal on replacement blades. Sold in a two pack, I use a Joann's or Michael's coupon to have inexpensive replacements on hand.

If you have the big rotary cutter that uses the round blade & the black bar cutting strip, you can try reversing the blade. But I doubt this extends the life of the blade like reversing the little blades. Also, the black bar can be turned to use all 4 sides, until all surfaces are too grooved to produce a clean cut. When I experienced rough edged cuts, I gave the bar a turn & that fixed the problem. Turned out I didn't need a new blade, but that was my cue to use my coupons for a replacement bar & blade.

Also you might need to rotate the black cutting bar. When they get a groove on them it tends to give the frayed edges on your cuts...they can be turned around and rotated to use all 4 sides at each end. then you can purchase more bars for the trimmer too. I usually order these 6 at a time directly from Fiskars. I go through so many blades and bars. My Michaels just had the blades clearanced at $1.99 each. I purchased them all.
blessings.

I love my trimmer, which is a Fiskar and which I bought through SU, and do need to change the blade often but I do find that even with a new blade I get the furry edges on SU White cardstock. Not sure if it's the gloss finish or what. I know my SU consultant uses the same trimmer. Good luck.
