Is Ric-Rac the new hot thing?

Just saw the message about the die on MFT, PTI has a new one out, and the SU Holiday Mini is going to have a XL Bigz die with 4 different borders including a ric-rac.

Is this a recent trend, or have I just been oblivous to it?

Haven't decided which I'm going to get, although I'm leaning towards waiting for the SU one. It's pricier, but you get 4 options and it looks like it might be long enough to use as a scrapbook border.

I saw all of those and I am so glad my Silhouette will cut several RicRac sizes.

If I were going to buy one die it would probably the sizzix one.

I think ric rac is kind of a classic that's been around--for a while it was super skinny ric rac, then super wide ric rac.

I like it in all widths/sizes, just like I like scallops. LOL!

I never cared for ric rak (rick rack?) when I was sewing a lot and now that it is hot in papercrafting, I still don't like it. Always other things to like though!

Spellbinders has a ric rac die as well. I use it ALL the time- LOVE it!!

but i'm not really bothered with what the 'trends' are tho. i just use what i like...

right now i just have regular old ric rak. the dies and stamps are cute tho! might just have to check those out!

I bought the EK Success zig zag punch because I thought I could add it to a 'guy' card without it being too frou frou or lacey. It might not work on an older guy's card but it is hard to think of trims that aren't too girly. I also have the EK Success donut & chain punches to use on 'guy' cards.

I have seen tuts that use rick rack dies to make flowers. The person cut the rick rack out of felt and did a running stitch on the points, pulled and tied the thread together to make the blossom. How tightly gathered the length of rick rack determined the size of you flower. A jeweled brad or sticky bling was placed in the center.

Wish I had saved all the ric rac my mother had in her sewing supplies [[[sigh]]]. However, I have bought a few partial packs at thrift stores for .05 or .10 so use them once in a while. But I'll not be buying any of the toys that are now available :>)

Yep,remember about five years ago it was all the rage in scrapbooking and Karen Foster came out with the super big ric rac, I still have so much of it I don't know what to do with it, would be happy to share.

I have the regular size Rick Rack die from PTI, and just ordered the new XL-jumbo size PTI Rick Rack die.

I have loved. loved using the one I have. It is so much fun to be able to have "rick rack" in any color using my cardstock. I love to combine the rick rack with ribbons, too.

I have the narrow die too. I love it! I do a lot of pen stitching on my cards, always have, and the ricrac with a few buttons just gives my cards a homey sort of look.

Everything old is new again. Ric Rac reminds me of learning how to sew with my Grandma years ago. I have some really narrow ric rac in several colors that is a nice change from ribbon for cards and sb pages. Not crazy about the really wide kind, though.

I'm not a really trendy person, and I've been using ric rac for years. In fact, I have a retired Sizzix border die that has 3 different border strips on it, and one of them is ric rac. I love that die and use it a lot. I also just bought some ribbon at Michael's that was in the dollar bin - all different colors of ric rac, 3 yards each. Eventually, many of the things I like become "trendy."

I just bought the EK success zig zag chain punch. I like the size.
I have embossed it after I cut it out to texture it. I've also used background stamps to give it a textured look, too. I love it!

I have been seeing a lot more ric-rak on projects lately so it probably is becoming trendy. I have some leftover from my sewing days but I haven't really used much on my projects yet.

I wanted to use some ric-rak on a card the other day but didn't have the size I wanted. I was looking at my SU scallop border punch and it occurred to me that I could make my own. Here's how I did it:

I cut my cardstock to the length I needed but didn't worry about the width. I punched all along one edge of my cardstock. I put the punched edge along the 5/8" mark on my paper cutter (you could try other widths, that's just what worked for me) and trimmed. Then I punched all along the other side of the cardstock, offsetting the punch by half a scallop. Here is my card that shows the end result.

I just used ric-rak on a card and used it woven together. The card was done with yellow print and black so I cut one strip of each and kind of braided them. It takes a bit of time but the results are great. I ran it down the fold on the inside of the card. Your adhesive tape runner will work on these but on the single ric-rac strips, I use my Xyron. Just an idea

I have always loved ric rac from the time my mother painstakingly sewed it on my hand made clothes, through when I did the same for my children, to now when I'm using up left over scraps on my cards and scrapbook pages. If I don't have the right size/color, I simply use my old wavy decorative scissors and cut the size and color I want--no need to purchase a new die or punch when I have an easy to grab standby.

The MFT team has tagged all their creations with "dienamicsdt" as a keyword, Die-namics being the brand name for all the dies from My Favorite Things. Here's a link to it in the gallery. You'll have to scroll through to see the ones with the Jumbo Ric-Rac die as they are not seperated by anything. I love this ric-rac die and you can even get an embossing plate for it to make it look like it's grosgrain ribbon! cute!

Hey, I have picked up most of mine at thrift stores or Goodwill. I wasn't sure if I would ever use it, only once so far in 6 or so yrs, but I have the room to store it, and only keep a few colors, so I do have it.

I just returned from Joanne's and saw some really cute ric rak in the $1. bin at the front of the store. Too bad I had already checked out, or I would've bought a couple of spools. I can remember my mom making dresses for me and my sister using lots of ric rak! Live long enough and everything cycles thru again!

I am at SU! Convention right now, and just saw Sara, Shelli Gardner's daughter demo using the ric rack die on fabric and then ironed on to a cardigan sweater! It was precious!
