Default Cricut for cake decorating

My sister makes cakes and is curious about the Cricut cartridges for cakes.
Would it be worth it for her to buy a Cricut just for cake decorating? Has anyone used this cartridge? How does it work? We don't live close enough for her to use mine.
Thanks :-)

Unless you have the cake Cricut, she probably shouldn't use yours anyway. The cake version is made with food grade parts. Other than that, the one review I saw on television here said it had the same learning curve as the regular Cricut, was expensive but worth it if you did that sort of decoration.

Default Cricut Cake

I saw a demo of it at Joann's a while back. I notice that the edges of the shapes that were cut looked ragged and not smooth. It may have been thatnthe fondant that was too dry, though...I think you would have to make a lot of cakes to make it worth it.

It is strongly recommended that you use the proper machine for the job. Yes, ANY Cricut cartridge can be used for cake decorating. The Cricut Cake machine is made for food safe use. It functions exactly like the paper version of the Expression (larger machine, not the small Cricut).

In my opinion if you do produce a volume of decorated cakes, then the Cricut Cake machine would be worth the expense. If you just see it as an occasional activity, then it may not be worth the expense.

I love the machine, but no I don't make decorated cakes professionally, but still like having the machine. Remember that it can cut other food items.....sliced cheese, lunchmeat (could be used for fancy entertaining). There are other food items it can also cut.

Suggestion is to go to Cricut.com and check out the forums for the Cricut Cake machine for more info.
