Smooch Sprtiz

Has anyone else tried the new Smooch Spritz from Stampin Up? I didn't have much success and to tell the truth, we played with it at my class last night and I didn't get one sale for any of it. Usually whatever I show, sells. We did manage to create a very nice card using the spritz, but I found it extremely messy and the spray bottles clog up way too easy, hard to pump and get the spritz to come out evenly, very blotchy. No one too impressed.

What does everyone else think?

I've read the same thing happening to others on a thread on the tool/product forum. At my monthly workshop (Friday, April 14) my demo had a card with the smooch. We really didn't have any trouble with it clogging up. It did make some people's ink run. It really didn't show up all that well either. I don't think anyone was really impressed.

did anyone shake it first? you should not shake it you should gently roll it between your palms for a while this way you avoid splotchiness.

I love love love the gold one. I got a beautiful shimmer on a card base with it. The black (I thought I bought silver, lol) gave big messy drops but pry would work on a manly card.

I'll have to post back once I've tried it. I'm still waiting to receive it in the mail. However, I don't know how savvy your customers are, but I can tell you that I did not order mine from SU because I could get it a lot cheaper (tax & ship incl) elsewhere.

I work a lot with Smooch Spritz. One big tip I will give is keeping it mixed up. Next use the color catcher or a box to catch the over spray. Firm even pushes on the pump will help if you do not like the splotchy look.

i bought the pearl in AC moore.....worked fine, but so small ! gone quickly....i wont get more. easier to make it myself.

i did like the glass tube it came in though

It's not black once you roll it around and spray it but it is a heavy silver.

I really like them. BUT they are a bit blotchy...and are supposed to be...that's the vintage thing. You can adjust the splotch a bit by holding it closer or further away. They can clog but I haven't had any problems so far except for one of mine not working from the get go but there was an actual defect with the nozzle. SU replaced it no problem. I had to play around with them for a bit...and they aren't super easy to aim (don't ask me how I know...and yes, that is sparkle on my face):-)

Try it on dark colored paper, especially the metallics.

I'm having oodles of fun with my smooch spritz, sorry to hear others are having a tough time with it. I've shaken mine to mix. The closer I hold it to my project the more vintage the look (like Minders said). I've laid my project flat in the color catcher and that really makes more of a vintage/spotted look. Putting my card at the back of the color catcher standing up and holding the spritz 10-12 inches away really makes a huge difference with a much finer spray hitting the card, and I actually use less now that I do this. HTH.

Thanks for the tip on the silver. I went and retried it, shaking it quite a bit. It still comes out black, but does dry silver. I didn't notice that the first time cuz I threw out the paper I had sprayed when it turned black! LOL. It is a bit wild- I sprayed it on white paper, it looked pure black, then dried to silver.

I find that if I hold the paper about a foot away I get a finer spray.

Sure, they take a while to get the hang of and experiment with. I really do like them though! The vanilla is gor-jus!

I just used them at my Stamp Club last night and I was very impressed---the silver was gorgeous--didn't buckle the paper (like Glimmer Mist). I was very impressed with the results!

I found them at TrendyRightNow.com - they have them in sets - the original "I" ($32) and the updated "II" ($32) and the entire set of 16 colors for $62 with free shipping - that comes to about $3.88 each. I'm still debating whether I "need" them all.

i bought some here at a store 4.95 in many colours.
but i have run into them clogging up and leaving big blotches on my cards..grrrr
my green one pretty much dribbled out and stained my hands greeen but sure looked sparkly...

My demo was going to show it at our club on Wednesday night, but only got 1 spray out of the bottle before experiencing problems. Not a great way to make sales. I guess from what she said lots of others were having problems as well, and SU was sending her another bottle since she had tried all of their ideas to resolve the issue with no success. I don't think any one at our club bought it either after that experience.

Just to be fair, I don't think the clogging and what not is an SU exclusive problem...I think it's a problem with all of them from anywhere. Sounds like clearsnap who makes them maybe should refigure the bottle/sprayer/or formula!

They did send me a new vanilla and I've had zero problems with it and no problems with the other colors!

I haven't had a problem with mine and I have used it on quite a few projects so far. You have to shake it well until the shimmery part is all mixed up and then spray it at a distance from what you are spraying on. I hold the tip away from my paper about 14inches or so away.

I bought Smooch a while ago from another source. I have both the paint and the spray. It is very true that the tube has to be shaken each time. It is also true that the spray does not last long. I have the gold lame. I made a sample rose with the Durango card stock. I was so unhappy with the cracks and tears. However, after a couple of spritz of the smooch, it looked beautiful. Now I kiss my smooch......but it goes too fast when ur having fun ;)

If you notice all of this product has issues. My Glimmer Mists are the same way!!! They come out blotchy and they clog. It does have to do with the actual shimmer particles.

So its not just Smooch spray that clogs.

Good to know....now if one of us could just come up with a solution so they didn't....imagine the cash we'd rake in....we could buy all the stamping stuff we wanted!!!! My DF is an engineer....maybe I should put him to work! I can just picture him in my craft room covered in smooch spritz and all sparkly!!!! LOL!

the ONLY shimmering mist tht i have found that NEVER has blotches or clogs are the ranger mini misters when i make my own glimmer mists. i recently bought a bunch of different brands and did a comparison article and the premade ones ALL had issues with the delivery system. i LIKE alot of the colors though of the different brands and the convenience. i keep wondering if i could manage to pour them into a mini mister.....

one thing i do about the blotchy-ness that works well is just blot lightly with a paper towel becuse i like the even coverage.

all that being said smooch and maya mists are my two LEAST favorites out of all the options out there. i find the smooch colors to be too dark for what i am usually doing and the maya's are too silvery. however i do like the vanilla smooch but it is just too expensive for such a small bottle - i do way better just making my own and always having it on hand when i need it.

and of course price - anything you get from SU is going to be overpriced compared to buying it elsewhere!

I, too, make my own spray mists. I just use acrylic paints (some are lovely pearlescent and metallic) and mix with water. I use $store bottles, mostly. I just shake them up well before use and use a cutdown box to contain the overspray. Works really well.

Also, for a heavier coverage of shimmer, I just paint on a diluted mix of the paint and water. Comes out like paper which is sold shimmery. One can colour the pearl with other colours of the paint, too.

I made up a little chart of some colours, for reference. I like these effects, myself, and they may be something to try if you want to save money and get nice finishes.

I lOVE the smooch spritz! I have not had any problems with clogging, but have had problems with sprayes in the past. I have a close up pic on my blog of the vanilla and the pretty shimmer it leaves.

i used it today on black...OMG super gorgeous!!! I dont shake it but do gently turn the container upside down several time to mix.

i use my smooch spritzes all the time and have used them in demos and classes too and haven't had too many problems with the sprayer.

i did have one clog, but popped off the top, rinsed it, put it back on and it was fine.

the tip sheet on the clearsnap site should help with most of the problems.

and as one poster said, firm even sprays - and moving your hand - like you would with spray paint, will help you get even coverage. if you WANT splotches, use short quick sprays.

and shaking isn't good for them - air bubbles, i just tip mine from end to end a few times to get the shimmer combined back in.

the spritzes are different from other mists and sprays as they aren't as watery and won't warp your papers like the others. i did a comparison on my blog awhile back between several types of sprays: SPRAYS, SPRITZES and MISTS - oh my!
the smooch spritzes are also cover VERY well, and the shimmer is GORGEOUS! i think someone posted the color wasn't all that - they might not have "shook" up the vial completely as the colors are AMAZING!

i've got a few projects using the smooch spritz and smooch accent ink on the clearsnap blog, i just did a grad box where i used it on paper mache and it covered WONDERFULLY without me having to prime or paint the box, it looks like it's old metal. the link to my clearsnap blog is in my siggie.

you may get the spritz to adhere if you heat set it, then apply a clear coat of some kind.

it would work better on a metal with some "texture" so it has something to hang onto.

it works better on absorbant surfaces.

I have tried a couple and I love love love the shimmer..my sweet friend sent me the entire line of smooch spritz sprays and the other ones which are not sprays...They are very pretty and cool to work with. blessings.

i just added a new project to my blog for Clearsnap {link in siggie} using Smooch Spritz...

it's a necklace made by "smooching" some wood beads. it's just another idea of something you can use the spritz for, and it will give you an idea about the color, coverage and shimmer...
