I'm filling in for Julia today. That girl keeps going and going like the energizer bunny! She is getting away and getting inspired at a Creating Keepsakes convention. Get rejuvenated, Julia, so you can keep on bringing us great challenges!
Now I have to tell you, I almost turned Julia down when she asked me to fill in for her because I am in Boston and didn't bring any card-making supplies with me. But I figure, what kind of challenge is that if it isn't a CHALLENGE to make a sample, huh? I did pack my Zentangle stuff (it fits in my purse), so ladies, meet Zentangle and try not to look overwhelmed. I even had to go to the concierge and borrow scissors to cut my cardstock. LOL! So...my sample today is only an ATC.
There are a few Zentangles in the gallery. (Here's the part where you try not to look overwhelmed!)
You may use stamps and embellish only a little bit with black ink. Notice the black and white frame in Jan Darrah's Sample Here she used stamps and color, but embellished with black ink. You could also choose an open image flower such as the one Jan Darrah used and fill in the petals of the flower with checks, etc.
For more inspiration check out Zentangle.com. Be sure to look at the gallery and check out the links.
See video training here (there's tons of help on YouTube): VideoThanks girlgeek101 for the link!
The actual challenge is this: Use {black} ink to embellish your card. I won't say NO dots and NO faux stitching, but I challenge you to use MORE than dots and MORE than faux stitching. We've all tried those. Be brave and try more.
Have fun with it!
Please remember to put WT271 in your keywords section and post a link back here. We'd all love to see your work! Please link only newly uploaded creations for this challenge. Thanks!
My sample: Spring Fling ATC
The sample LOOKS complicated, but if you look at individual patterns, none of them are complicated by themselves. Choose one or two to try on your card.
Well, this looks like a whole lot of fun - and something NEW! I've seen bits and pieces of Zentangle before and toyed with trying it - I guess today's the day! Thanks for guest hostessing, and for a great (and challenging) challenge!
Wow! This is really interesting. I think I will take cardstock and ink to work today and do some "doodling"...! Hope I can come up with something. Your card is amazing, especially under your circumstances!
I remember your Texas Tangle.
This is SO not me, I just about can cope with dots, and mostly if I doodle it's treble clefs. But I'm always happy to give something new a go. Thanks for this - I think!
Super challenge! I've seen this and was really fascinated, but haven't gotten a chance to play with it. I wonder if I can doodle while teaching my 2 classes today *wink*! Thanks, Beverly.

Beverly, what a clever and unique challenge! How fun it must have been to scrape up some supplies like you did and make such a beautiful ATC!! I always love your work, whatever the medium...
I won't be able to play today....getting ready for my first (DS) graduate's open house!
Attempting the Zen of ATCs
Hmm, I think colouring is more therapeutic for me than doodling, but I must say I had fun and a stretch is always good. Thanks again, Beverly.
Well, Bev, this was a REAL challenge for me. I'm not an Artist with a capital "A"....so I really don't doodle or sketch. I'm not sure the card I created fit within the parameters you gave...but I gave it my best shot. I'm sure there are going to be some spectacular works in the gallery today!
What a cool, fun, and different kind of challenge. Thanks for filling in and doing such a great job with the examples and video. I hope to play later. :>)
Beverly, THANK YOU for this amazing challenge! At first I thought there is no way that I EVER try this.....but then I thought, heck....I doodle all the time. Just never that much in one spot. I HAD THE BEST TIME! What a fun, fun challenge!!!!!
I am all pumped up now. I had so much fun! Did I mention that already? Maybe it's the sharpie fumes....the Copic Multiliner I had was too thin and I grabbed a thin sharpie for my background. Anyway...I am feeling FINE! LOL
Beverly, what an interesting challenge!! I had never heard of Zentangle before. This was pretty cool. I wasn't brave enough to try a full Zentangle design, so I went with the more general idea you challenged us with: to use {black} ink to embellish your card--keyword for my challenge card is the "embellish." I hope this was OK. Here it is:

Thanks so much for filling in. This is definitely going to be a challenge, but the challenge for ME is going to be to make it pretty and not looking like a cave man drawing. I will hopefull be back later.
Later that year...oh, okay - later that day...I finally finished this challenging little challenge! My Tangled Heart was semi-successful, I think. Now I know what to do differently next time... Thanks for the chance to try something new, and thanks for looking!
Thanks Beverly for a very unique and interesting technique! I wasn't going to do it because it seemed too intimidating, but challenges are supposed to challenge us, right?

Would youu believe, Beverly.....I did another card. I felt my first one was not what was truly intended for this challenge. It was fun, but doubt this will be a style that I will go to often! : )
This was so much fun! I put the piece of cs on my washer and everytime I changed loads today, I added a bit of doodling. Here is mine: Zentangle- Vision
