Is it true Stampin' Up has already sold out of some of its retiring colored paper in 8 1/2" x 11"? My local demonstrator said the Almost Amethyst and Blush Blossom packs could not be ordered in this size.
I think we need to wait until tomorrow when Stampin' Up! reopens to know for certain. My hope is that it is simply a glitch in the system.
Right now, I see there is a back order note for:
100475: Cameo Coral card stock (8-1/2" x 11")
100721: Brilliant Blue card stock (8-1/2" x 11")
101584: Taken with Teal card stock (8-1/2" x 11")
101166: Brocade Blue card stock (8-1/2" x 11")
102158: Almost Amethyst card stock (8-1/2" x 11")
They're not out of those things, just out of stock due to large demand, I'm sure. Here's the news from the SU website. You'll see the things on the bottom that cannot be ordered are things from the Occasions mini catalogue that expired Saturday.

Oh, good! My monthly stamp class is not until later in May and I need to order about four packs of Almost Amethyst and an ink refill. Also some other retiring colors.

After reading this thread I thought I better finally get my order in. I've been putting it off because I wasn't sure what colors I really wanted more of. Some of the retiring colors I never use.
I added a lot of things to my cart and those that were out of stock had a pop up box that said that these items would be shipped when available. But when I tried to order almost amethyst, it said that "this item is no longer available". WHAT? Why can't that be on back order. I'm so dissapointed. Of all the retiring colors it's the one I cared about getting more of most.

It's probably just a glitch and with it being the weekend no one is there to fix it. SU! has told us that items will be while supplies last AFTER June 1. It should be fixed tomorrow.

So far none of the colours I want are on this list... Handsome Hunter (Christmas cards) and Taken With Teal. Got the reinker, marker, and cardstock.
When I finally run out of the cs I'll have to find something close in Bazzill or Coredinations.
I thought about going to another brand with similar shades once some of the SU colors run out but I live far from a stamp/scrap store so it wouldn't be convenient for me to get cardstock when I needed it. And, even though Bazill has nice colors and a ton more variety than SU, their cardstock is thin in comparison and not good for card bases.

Oh I certianly hope so. I will be most disappointed if I can't get anymore of that color.
ACCKKK!!! I have been dilly-dally-ing, cause I wasn't sure what I wanted. I have a list, but still....... Oyyiiee Mellow Moss and Amythest are two on the list.
Monday order for sure!!

I'm pretty sure this is a computer glitch. Tech support and DS aren't there on the weekends and OEX was pretty wonky when I did my order at 6 am in order to get the new hostess set from the mini. I had some issues! So.....I think that maybe just the system is messed up with no one to fix it yet. They did say the colors would be available until June 1 for sure then on a while supplies last basis after that. We shall see tomorrow!
It should be available to order for sure until the end of the month, then it would be WSL. That is my understanding. I think once there are so many back orders on file, they no longer allow an order to go through for that item until it is back in stock. These should definitely be back in stock soon. I hope so!
SU! just did an ordering system upgrade over the weekend since May 1st began the ordering period for the new Summer Mini catalog. Demo Support is not available until Monday morning, but you can be sure many demonstrators will be calling to notify them of the glitch in the ordering system and it will hopefully be resolved on Monday.
Our information was that the retiring colors would be available through May and be added to the retiring accessories list on June 1st and available "while supplies last'.
I don't believe they are "sold out". They may be running low on warehouse stock and backordered, but due to a problem with the ordering system it is saying unavailable instead. I'm sure we'll get an update on Monday from SU! letting us know what's up, but I wouldn't completely panic until tomorrow when we receive definite information!
Please don't panic. Stampin Up WANTS to make these things available to you. That's how they make their living. Believe me, they will do their very best to make these products available to everyone who wants them. The change doesn't happen for 2 months, and I know SU is not interested in having 2 months with no paper sales. You'll be able to get what you want. Just be sure to decide and order before June 1.
While it may be true that no business wants to be without sales, it's also true that it's better to sell at regular price than clearance discounts. If things are running out and the back order list is crazy long, will SU manufacture more than their BO list and risk either being stuck with it or having to put it on the clearance rack at 60% off? Regardless, I'm sure the limited quantities 2 months in advance and messages when you try to order it are great for sales. ;)

SU really doesn't put everything on Clearance that gets discontinued, and the stuff that does go is sporadic and well after the "retirement' date. I understand they package a lot of it up and give it to charity -- 100% value as a tax deduction or loss write down can be better than getting 40% retail, KWIM?

Has there been an update? I tried to place an online order and it says both close to cocoa and sage shadow are unavailable. I don't want to waste money on postage for only half of my order.

I'm sure that once we get an 'official' update from SU! regarding this, somebody will come and post it here.
Now I am upset. I got my big order ready, and it says no Blush Blossom paper!! Arghhh! I was going to buy multiple packs for the paperdolls my niblings do. I haven't found a better flesh color for them anywhere else. (Tho I did find nice brown shades elsewhere....)
Anyone have any word about Sage Shadow 8 x 11 cardstock? It's still showing up as no longer available.
You might want to check again, I just saw on another thread that that one was corrected now too.
ETA: Went back and read the other thread, that person had not tried to order Sage Shadow. If it hasn't been fixed yet, I would assume that it will be soon. I think they will all be on B/O, but I am not in a rush to get mine.
I spoke with demo support yesterday afternoon and several others have spoken with them this morning. SU did not anticipate the rush on the paper, they are truly sold out of some of these items. They had a meeting yeatersday and will make an announcement either regarding the availablity of these items either, today, tomorrow or Thursday...as soon as they know whether they can get the items still.
In my humble opinion, SU is a company of honor and if they said these items will be available until May 31 at least, they will do all in their power to make sure that they are.
well, I sure hope they have the colours that I ordered. I wonder if they got it right with big colour renovation. Maybe they didn't realiize how much people valued certain colours. I don't know. Anyway, I wait until I hear something from my demo.

But, with the stamp sets that had been on the dormant list and ended up going away at the beginning of January, they had said when they first went on the dormant list that they would be available until the end of June. They went back on their original announcement on that one (and even went so far as to delete their original announcement on the SU demo site like it never happened). I'm hoping for all those that really were blown away and totally caught off guard with the retiring colors announcement, that they do uphold what they said about the colors being available until May 31 and then while supplies last after that.
So, has SU made any announcement as to the status of their available throught May 31 yet? I'm sure a lot of customers really want to know, but nobody seems to be posting much of any updates. There are a lot of days left in May for the "guaranteed".

Backorders on Retiring Colors
May 5, 2010
With our recent Color Renovation announcement, we have experienced a spike--much greater than anticipated--in demand for some of our retiring colors. You may have noticed in the backorder report that a significant number of colors in both card stock and re-inkers have gone into backorder status, and we recognize the frustration this may have caused you.
You may be asking yourself: didn't Stampin' Up! anticipate increased demand on retiring colors? The quick answer is yes, we did. The long answer is a bit more complicated. We based our forecasts for these retiring colors on historical sales information for previous color transitions, as well as current buying behaviors. Obviously, even with the most careful planning, the response to a transition of this nature can surprise everyone--including you in your own business and personal purchases!
For re-inkers in retiring colors, as we run out, they will be placed on backorder status and those orders will be filled as quickly as we receive the product. We will continue to do this to the best of our ability through May, and then the re-inkers will be available while supplies last in June.
Card stock presents a bit larger problem, as the process of ordering and producing new paper from the paper mills is very involved, and we can't order significant quantities at this point in time without putting the production of the new colors in jeopardy (and we know you want those!). To help us be able to provide you with the card stock in the retiring colors for as long as possible, we will be substituting textured paper for some of the smooth colors--including card stock in 8 x 11 as well as 12 x 12--where the smooth is no longer available. You will notice these colors go on backorder, and we will be filling as many of those as possible with textured card stock. Because the demand for each color varies, we are unable to provide a list of what colors of card stock will be substituted with textured, or at what point that will happen. However, if you receive a package of card stock that is textured instead of smooth, there will be a sticker on the package indicating that change. There will be no change in item code or price for these substitutions.
We realize that this is an extraordinary situation, and that this solution may not be ideal for everyone. However, we hope this will help you get the retiring colors you and your customers want for as long as possible. Please keep in mind that an instance may arise where we are unable to fill orders on a specific product, and it will become unavailable before the end of May, but those cases should be minimal, and we will communicate those situations as they may arise.
Our main goal is to serve you and your customers the best that we can, and appreciate your patience as we work through this situation.
This is the lastest backorder report from yesterday:
Backorder Report
May 4, 2010
This report is current as of 3:00 PM (MT) on Tuesday, May 4.
To help you manage your business, we are providing the following information about current backorders. You can expect to see an updated backorder report each business day between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM (MT).
This backorder report includes all items that are currently out of stock. Some items on this list may be close to arriving in our warehouse and will, therefore, still ship within the number of Business Days to Ship listed in the right column of the Ordering page. However, so that you receive all items as quickly as possible, we will ship each item as it becomes available. At times this will result in one order being shipped in multiple boxes--possibly arriving at different times. Please note: Our count of Business Days to Ship does not include the day you place your order, Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays. If a product is not shipped within 21 days from the date the order is received by Stampin' Up!, you may call Demonstrator Support and cancel the order for a full refund or exchange it for another item.

102898: Mellow Moss card stock (8-1/2" x 11")
You can currently order the following items, but a shipping date has not yet been determined. We will let you know as soon as we have that information.
So, will there be the same number of sheets in textured CS or will they just substitute package for package? Will they cut them down to 8 1/2 x 11 or leave them 12x12? just wondering as there is a large price difference.

There have been numerous threads where crafters have found the cardstock from both of these companies to be superior to SU, especially white and cream for card bases. Personally, I continue to use paper from all three companies to have the fullest possible range of color. I will, however, never order SU white or cream again - it is just too flimsy to stand up under the weight of a whole card.
