Do you buy sentiments or just type your own?

I was wondering- with digi stamps increasing in popularity do you buy sentiments stamps anymore or do you just type your own?
I find that I still use my sentiment stamps most of the time- except for bible verses. There's too many good ones to own them all!

I NEVER print out my sentiments because I am either stamping them directly on the image panel or onto a small scrap.. I own HUNDREDS of sentiment stamps and it is so nice to go rooting through my stash to find the perfect saying in the perfect font.

I sometimes print my own - always have done. But I don't think you can ever have too many sentiment stamps.

I print most of mine, both for the inside and outside of the card. That way I can personalize them and say as much as I want. Most sentiment stamps are too limited for me, especially for the inside of the cards.

Sometimes I type my own, and then it feels like an admission of failure....how can I possibly have so many stamps and not have the right one for this occasion?! :mad:

I usually type my sentiments. I'd rather spend my budgeted money on images then on sentiments.

The only sentiment stamps I have are the common ones....Happy Birthday, Anniversary, Congratulations, Thinking of You, Just Because, Hello. These are used on the front of my card.

Inside, I always computer generate the message so it's personalized to the recipient and occasion. Stamp sentiments I've seen are too phony or sappy. Not something most people would say to someone. I don't do digital as those to me are the same as computer generated which I can do myself.

I'm a printer, as well, for the most part. If I'm making "generic" sort of cards, I'll use stamps but for personal ones, I print them because I can choose the font style I want and say exactly the things to suit the person the card's going to.

If I don't have a sentiment, I'd probably just hand-write it. I did once gather all the sentiments I had to continuously hand-write and had them made into (clear) stamps. Every once in a while I'll do that. It's a pain to hand-write. But I am too lazy to actually print something out using the computer (just quicker to write it).

I mostly print mine, but only because I recently started stamping (about a year ago) and I currently find myself buying more images then sentiment stamps. However, I LOVE when I do have the perfect sentiment on hand to stamp with, because then I can emboss or use a specific colored ink. AS far as digi's I think they are great for images but why buy digi sentiments when you can create them yourself on your computer? maybe I'm missing something.

Sometime I print the sentiment especially if I'm in a hurry. Alot of times I will spell them out using my JustRite Stampers. I have the generic Happy Birthday, Anniversary, etc....stamps but there are times when something special is needed.

I have been looking at getting some JustRight Stamps. I think it would be so great if there was a clear block with circle lines inside to line up clear stamp letters and get the just right stamp look (does that even make sense?) I guess I could just trace a circle with a permanent maker.

I prefer stamps to digi for everything (I like the IDEA of digi stamps - but for me it's more work than to just ink up a stamp and stamp it - so I'm sticking with my stamps).

If I can't find a sentiment I need (which still happens a lot) I just design it and create another sentiment set LOL

I, surprisingly enough, have a lot of sentiment stamps that I don't use very often. I usually print mine. The only time I use the stamps is if I'm going to emboss the sentiment. I use the computer to generate the inside sentiment about 95% of the time - the other 5% I hand write it. I personally wouldn't spend good money on inside verse stamps - they just seem either so corny or too impersonal/generic. And with the plethora of free fonts, I can usually match the font to my card 99% of the time. I also have a CraftRobo, so I can put gel pens in the holder and use that to write with in lovely gold ink or sparkle ink. I'm a computer geek, so if I can use the computer I'm more likely to do that then pull out a bunch of supplies that I'll have to clean up.

I love what my SIL does - she goes to the card stores and if she finds a verse she likes, she "calls" herself and leaves a message on her answering machine in this manner..."Hey, I was just at the Hall*ark store and found this card that would be great for mom. Tell me what you think. It says xxxxxxx. Or maybe you like this one better. It says....yyyyyyyy. Call me back!" Then she goes home and types it up and puts it in her hand made card. Yes, I know that is total plagiarism, but it cracks me up every time. Now the family joke is asking, "Did you make this verse up yourself or did you steal it from the card store?"

I LOVE sentiment stamps bc it's sometimes so much easier to stamp something rather than thinking of just the perfect message. So I by all the sentiments I can from SU and I have a few other companies too. I love finding the perfect sentiment to stamp!

The reason I don't print them is bc I never think about the sentiment until the card is done, then I cant' exactly run that through the printer! Then I'm so lazy I don't want to get up, type what I want, go back for paper (because I always forget to bring it out), print it, realized I printed it too big/small, decide I don't like the font I picked, spend forever deciding on a font, wasting a big hunk of cardstock on this process, having to cut, punch, or nestie my sentiment and then adhering it to the inside, which will mean it'll need an embellishment, etc, etc. You get the picture. I'll stick with stamping the sentiment in matching ink.

I went to Dafont.com to look for fonts I like if I don't already have them. I usually print them on my computer because I don't always use a saying for more than one person. But I don't print them on the actual card (too much hassle); I print them on clear labels (some small-some large) or I use business cards. That way I can type up a bunch, print them off and keep them in my play room for when I need them. Oh, then I just attach them to the inside of my card.

I wish I had the kind of cute, whimsical handwriting to finish off a project with my own sentiment. Unfortunately, my penmanship looks like a second grader with a bad hand cramp. If I try to add my own handwriting to a project, I'll invariably end up letting out one of those long "AAAARGH!" Charlie Brown-type screams. "I've ruined it!"

No, I stick to stamps every time...it saves me from a lot of frustration! ;)

I have alot of sentiment stamps, but for the most part, they only get used for the outside of cards and then only about a quarter of the time. Mostly, my cards are personalized for the one receiving it and I find it easier to print out a sentiment than use a generic one...of course it helps that the the printer is in my craft area, so I can just roll over to it.

I have a lot of sentiment stamps, so most of the times I just stamp my sentiments. Once in a while I need something specific to go with an image, then I print it. I do print verses for insides because I don't have any stamps for inside the card.

You should be able to print in almost any colour too. All you need is the code for the colour. I am pretty sure there's a list somewhere with the HEX codes for SU colours, but as I don't use them I've never followed it up. And with an image open in your graphics editor, you can pick any colour and see the the code yourself (although this method will vary because of the different colour outputs on different monitors).

I do a bit of both. When I find a good stamp sale, I usually try to get some sentiments that I can use on cards. Usually general ones like for birthday, new baby, thinking of you, etc.

But I also like to print my own. I've collected a bunch of quotes, sayings, phrases that you probably won't find on stamps. I have them broken down into categories like birthday, wedding, new baby, etc. When I make a card and can't find the right sentiment on one of my stamps, I'll type up one from my collection.

One thing I like to do is to type up frequently used phrases/sayings/quotes so I have them on hand. I like to use the full sheet label paper and sometimes the clear full sheet label paper. It makes it easier to adhere the saying in the card.

so try this for yet another sentiment wrinkle....I have plenty of sentiment stamps but many times I need that sentiment in a different size font.....so I type it into my puter and print it out....but I like the actual act of stamping so I don't do that an overwhelming amount of time.

I can't say I "never" print them out ('cuz desperate times call for desperate measures when one needs a particular sentiment that doesn't exist in rubbah, LOL!), but I'm like Tobi--I have hundreds of sentiment stamps and hands down I'd much rather stamp a sentiment onto my card than print it out and then figure out how to work with it. Stamping it is always easiest and fastest for me.

I'll even hand-write it out before I'll turn to the printer to do it. :shock:
