Q about using Distress Ink to paint

I only have 2 reinkers for distress pads and about 2 pads....

Can you smoosh the ink onto something else from the pads and paint with that or do you need the reinker ink to get the really pretty coloring I've seen on the Tildas???

you probably could... these pads are pretty juicy, one thing i do for fun is take the pads and pat them on an non-absorbant surface (IE foil, freezer paper or an craft mat if you have one) and then mist it with water then add cheap cardstock to the top to pick up the color with and let it dry for over stamping on later... these inks take a little longer to dry so you can manipulate it more then regular dye inks...

(Im not really into "painting" so much but, my guess is you need time to move the ink so these should work really well for that)

A blender pen might absorb some ink from the pad and give you control for coloring. Not sure if there would be any negative affect on the inkpad from the solution.

Or ... a blending stump (like what's used for the Gamsol technique). It absorbs liquid and is used for coloring (I used it recently at a shoebox swap to blend an image colored with Copics and it was recommended to get the one made in China vs the one made in Taiwan; there is a visible difference).

I have a few Fantastix that I bought to make markers using reinkers (before SU made markers in the In-Colors) but I never tried them. They seem to be a tight foam (almost like styrofoam) with a wrapping and look like crayons. I think they are now sold in A.C. Moore and probably other such places (I bought them years ago at a now-closed LSS).

Yes and you don't need to waste ink either! Squeeze your closed pad quite firmly in the centre, pressing down from the top and up from the bottom. The lid will dip down onto the pad and pick up ink to give you a little pool to use for colouring. You could just smoosh the pad onto any slick surface (acetate sheet, old CD etc) but if you do that then any ink you don't use is wiped up and tossed. If you use the lid method, any ink you don't use is still there for next time you play

Thanks so much everyone. I was hoping I could smoosh the ink onto the lid!!! I wanted to try colouring with them but can't afford the reinkers right now. But I will get them eventually to keep my pads nice and fresh.

Thanks librarian. I've watched a couple of his videos before so I'll watch some more. I liked the ones I saw before... Problem is then I want the stamps and the masks and the alterations dies..... Oh my!

Mel, Have you ever tried any of Claudine Helmuth's Studio paints??? I'm thinking of getting some and just wanted some opinions.
