I am very new to card making. I know I can get Stampin Up papers and cardstock. I see on the cards names like Cosmo and Basic Grey. I have looked in Micheal's, but they don't seem to carry them (or I am not looking in the right place or don't know exactly what I am looking for:confused. So where do you find your papers and cardstock. BTW I am in Calgary, AB

I get my Cardstock from PTI http://www.papertreyink.com/ I know that there shipping is expensive to Canada, but I usually place a large order when I need CS so the shipping isn't too bad and when I calculated the cost per sheet of SU CS and PTI CS including shipping and exchange the PTI is about $.02 less than the SU and PTI I think is a way better quality than SU. I don't know where else you can get CS in Canada. Good luck with your search.
Actually Michaels does carry Cosmo Cricket and Basic Grey papers at times in the section where the pads of papers are.
I buy my supplies both on line and at local Scrapbooking stores. I'm pretty sure there are a few actual scrapbooking stores in Calgary and area. you might want to check them out.
If you like to shop on line there are TONS of on line scrap/scrap stores that are Canadian. I'll go look for the thread that has all the links.
If you primarily make cards you might be interested in the 6 x 6" pads of the designer papers. Many of the on line stores carry them.

Hi and welcome. I get my papers from few suppliers. I buy lot from SU, but I also buy a lot online. Gina K has a great paper for card basis. As a cheaper option for the basis, I go to Coast Paper (they have a cash and carry location in Calgary) and buy 100# Domtar/Cougar. Nenaah has a great copic colouring paper and it is also sold in Coast Paper. There are few online stores here in Canada that you can get paper from with very reasonable shipping charges - Scrappin' Great Deals, Stamp'n'Scrap, Scrap Hut. Good luck!
I guess I should have mentioned I hate to drive LOL. Actually the one is close to my work and have heard about it, but I had been to a couple of smaller scrapbooking places and just saw single pages of paper which looked expensive. I will check out the Scrapbookers Paradise at lunch this week.
Some of the others are way in the north of the city. Calgary is a not "fun" to drive in if you don't like driving. :-(

You'll save on gasoline and aggravation, and it's so nice to have your package of treats delivered right to your mailbox. Any shipping costs you'd have to pay would be equal to or less than what you'd likely pay for gas.

That brings up the other question, I have ordered a few things on line. Which companies have the best shipping rate to Canada. Sometimes the "sticker" shock can be scary.:o

yes, scrapbook stores sell single sheets of patterned paper, but that's how they come! There are some companies that do sell the packs of paper (cosmo sell the crafters kit and basic grey sell the whole collection in a pad) but if you aren't going to use every single piece of paper - and there's been many a discussion on here about buying the paper pads and then they collect dust - it's worth it to just buy the single sheets you're going to use.

i don't know if i agree with that.. if you live or work very close to the scrapbook store the gas might be a few cents...
There's nothing like actually seeing the paper in real life before you dish out the $$... There are many papers that look great online but once you see them in real life: YUCK!
As a person who has done a lot of shopping in the past, I advise you look at the product FIRST HAND before you buy IF YOU HAVE THE OPTION.
I just recieved a box of cardstock (a DT gift) and there were maybe 100 sheets of cardstock and a few other things... The shipping was $35!!!!!!!!!!!! Yowza!! There is NO WAY I would spend $35 in gas to drive from point A to point B.. Shipping from the states definately outways the cost of gas. PLUS.. I don't know about your LSS's, but mine has sales EVERY week. That's a bonus for me too.

cardstock for base layers of cards: Office Depot or Staples for their 110lb cover stock
papers: WalMart carries some packs of designer paper (K&M), Michael's has some packs along with individual sheets, Scrapbooker's Paradise for mostly individual sheets, although you can sometimes find packs in their clearance section, The Scrap Yard (located off Canyon Meadows Drive & Macleod Trail) has a great selection of individual sheets of paper

You can also try www.stampingbella.com She always has the latest and greatest stuff. Papers, embelishments, stamps, ink, copics....etc. etc. The shipping is very reasonable at $4.99 if you spend $55.00 or more in product. A few times a year she offers free shipping as well. This is a fantastic and reliable company based out of the Toronto, Ontario area.

I'm in Newfoundland...not a lot of shopping options - but that's okay...online shopping rocks. I mostly order from the US but Stampingbella.com is in Ontario and has flat rate shipping if you order X amount of stuff (and sometimes offers free shipping) but I get most of my stuff from 7kidscollegefund.com or eclecticpaperie.com (hope I spelled that right...I always have trouble!)
Yeah, shipping can be a bit high sometimes but I don't think it's that bad at the places I specifically mentioned (still waiting on PTI...just can't bring myself to pay that shipping and I know I'd become an addict and have to order from there all the time)

I have been to paper pastimes spent a little cash there lol, no paper though needed a happy birthday stamp. Nice little store. Checked out Scapbookers online looks like some nice workshops coming up. I have a few links now and I did discover another couple of threads with good ideas. I might have to do a Saturday look then lol Thanks everyone. Once I figure how to post pictures I will post one of the card I made for my daughters birthday. I really like the job I did on it.
My favourite online Canadian store is PaperWorksCo! I love the prices, the cute stamps, the selection and the service is *outstanding*! And yep, she carries BasicGrey & Cosmo Cricket. That's where I get my BG fix most of the time! *lol*

Next Question who carries the Just Rite Stamps? I have been eyeing these and after their blog hop last week....
Every once in a while I find a set of the Just Rite stamps at Winners. I've bought 3 or 4 sets and they were all under $10. They also have papers - usually scrapbook kits - once in a while for about $5. I've picked up quite a few of the kits to make card sets. They do have stamps once in a while too, but I haven't seen any in quite a while other than the Just Rite sets.
The only other store I would mention is Scrapbook Sally. Of course, by the name, its geared more toward scrapbooking, but they do have some nice papers and embellies. They're on Brisboise and Northmount, just north of Brentwood Mall.
I love Scrapbookers Paradise and their discount section. Right now they have an extra 25% off their 50% & 70% off stuff. I bought about $280 worth of cuttlebug dies and nesties for $65.
ETA: For card bases and regular white cardstock I buy mine from Staples - Wassau #110. Walmart carries the Wassau #80 which is good for stamping and colouring, but not for using copics or anything "wet".

Unfortunately... Scrapbook Sally's shut down. They had fantasic paper and I will miss them.
That's too bad. I must of been at the store just before it closed then cause it doesn't seem to be that long ago. They often had "bookmark" scraps for sale really cheap and they were perfect for punches. Its too bad they closed.
