Default What causes you to go on a shopping spree?

Hi,

I realized that I didn't like my markers. So I bought some Copics and decided that I needed to upgrade my paper. (had been using Michaels brand) So after doing a LOT of research I bought taylored expressions white paper for layering. Then, bought Gina K Paper for bases and the white for single layer cards. Also, purchased some SU paper for layering.

Oh, and i needed to change my ink too so it wouldn't bleed with the copics. Went from colorbox to Memento...

This shopping spree needs to come to an end, but I am betting ready to go to an Heirloom show in 3 weeks and I am hosting a SU party...

What caused your latest Shopping spree?

Funny you should ask;

I went to the Heirloom show yesterday and spent way too much. At these shows it is the demo's that cause me to buy things. The demonstrators make their products look so cool I just can't resist. But I guess that's the whole idea right?

Of course the really good sales people give you such a deal if you buy at the show. I got the Crafter's Companion Ultimate with the 3 extra embossing boards, Christmas DVD, envelope glue and the Clevercut paper trimmer for $125.00. If I had paid regular price it would have cost me about $180.00.

I'm such a sucker  But so far I like the products even though I've only been using them since yesterday.

It sounds like the same as what caused yours... Copics. I finally dove head first into the addiction. Bought 3 markers to start with and then decided I LOVED them. BUT--my inkjet printer was smearing with them and the main reason I justified buying them was to use with my small stamp collection and digi stamps that are cheaper and easier to store. SO---in order to use digi stamps I had to buy a new laser printer. Found an awesome one that only ran me $79 and feeds cardstock! No smearing and great results.

THEN, I just had to buy 12 more markers and the airbrush system. But what good is an airbrush system without an air compressor? Bought the Harbor Freight air compressor last week. I've since bought 12 more markers this weekend and plan on placing an online order this week.

Believe it or not dh convinced me to buy 6 markers yesterday at Hobby Lobby. He thinks that airbrush system is the bomb. He's awesome.;)

HA! My DH is happy that his heat gun is finally seeing some use sice the Army went to the no shine boots! I found that it melts the powders quicker than any of the others I've tried too, so that makes me happy too!

As for th OP, if I have been drooling over something for long enough and I finally cave and buy it, it kinda leads to a domino affect. So, I finally broke down and ordered from PTI, and so I "had" to break down and buy XY&Z from this other place... THat is how it usually works....

Even when you have been doing this for awhile - any excuse.

Sometimes you know you have whatever you need at home - but it is going to be faster to go out and buy a new one because you know where the one is at the store!

I need to make 2000 cards for a sale at the end of May so I had to buy some CS, well I couldn't get CS without envelopes, then I needed tape and I just didn't have enough stamps (I had about 3000 on hand already) so I needed more then I needed more punches and die cuts and so on and so on. It does help that we got our tax refund and the cheque from the sale of our house the same week. It can be so easy to place orders online, and it is so fun at least until DH see's all the parcels arriving, lol.

Jackie, what a small world. I went to high school in Arcola. Haven't been back there for years, as my folks don't live there anymore.

Ah, the Moose Mountains.

Ah, the Moose Mountains.

We love it here. My dad's family is originally from Carlyle so it was great when we were able to move back, and yes the Moose Mountains are wonderful.

For me, what triggers a shopping spree (usually at Archiver's) is when I have had a rough patch of being really busy or stressed, and kind of forget the "me" in all of it. I will go and treat myself to a few new toys to enjoy!

Good question, and interesting answers When I am stressed, have money to burn, bored of my stamps (I mainly splurge on stamps), or just being obsessed to get a certain one.... So .. All Of The Above So I guess I am in trouble since one of those seem to hit me everyday - LOL

By the way, what's an Heirloom Show??

I often see something I like on *this website* and have to recreate it, which causes me to need supplies and then before I know it, I've been on a spree.

havonfamily.....Heirloom is one of the sponsors of a stamp show that is held throughout the country each month. There is one coming to Allentown, PA on the 10-11 of April.

You can do a search for them....Heirloom Pro.

I got the Brother HL-2140. Apparently it goes on sale at Office Depot and Staples all the time for around $50-$60. BUT--last week they wanted $120 for it so I took a HUGE chance and ordered it on ebay from a seller asking $49 + $20 shipping(guess I only spent $69 NOT $79) and it arrived 2 DAYS LATER.

Dh did a ton of research for me on b&w laser printers and kept coming back to this one. It got great consumer reviews. I was nervous about it feeding heavy cs but I can't say enough good things about this little workhorse!

It even fed Neenah 80# last night with NO problems. I don't know that PTI or Gina K would work in it but I don't plan on using those with digis.

If you're interested in the ebay seller's name, just pm me. Like I said, he shipped FAST with Fedex.

Well, I had been wanting and wanting certain Magnolia stamps - possibly for already a year I've wanted them, but have always managed to tell myself not to spend money.

Then my sister asked me to draw some pretty difficult things and the drawings became such a burden that I thought "if I finish these @$#% drawings I will reward myself with some Magnolias!!!!!!" So that is what caused my most recent shopping spree with Magnolia stamps.

The biggest thing that actually triggers a shopping spree for me is when we are leaving town. Since I'm three hours from crafting stores and decent supplies other than ordering on line, I tend to get more than I really need when we go. We go out of town once a month for my husbands doctors visit so that in a way helps lessen it then if we only went out of town when we felt like it. I like shopping on line, but some things I just like to be hands on with, I like to see the paper in front of me and feel it for thickness, the weights confuse me sometimes! I like to see the detail in a stamp before I buy it and mull over whether I'll use it often enough to make it worth it.

When a company like Cosmo Cricket or October Afternoon come out with a new line it's SO HARD to walk away without most of the papers, accessories, etc...
My hubby and I are going through a little but of a $ drought, but when I DO have some extra spending money I can't resist the collections..

Feeling crappy, kinda down, then finding an online store with a sale, you know the ones, spend XXX and get free shipping? What's a girl to do?

And then going back, twice, to order more.

Whoops.

Now, just waiting, waiting, waiting.

I'm not really sure what causes a spending spree for me. Maybe I use it as stress relief. Also for FUN! I'm not in a speding spree mood lately. That is a GOOD thing!

I am in Saskatchewan. Where is the sale at the end of May? Oh, and good luck making all those cards. I hope you don't get a repetitive strain injury! WOW!

It is more of a trade show that an association that my sister belongs to is having in conjunction with a Canada wide conference. It will be in Regina, I am not sure if it is just for the people attending the conference or if the public can attend as well, I can find out from her if you would like?

Where about's in Saskatchewan do you live? I am in the southeast corner of the province.

The sale/trade show is only open to 20 tables and there are only 3 craft like tables that are going to be there and I am lucky enough to have been asked, it doesn't hurt that my sister is part of the association that is putting on the conference/trade show so she showed my cards to the other members and they asked me to attend. I am not sure if it is open to the public to come or if it is just for the conference attendies.
