Exclamation virus and scs?

I was on my hubby's laptop recently and it got pretty badly infected by a virus. The only sites I visited were google (to check my email); hotmail (same thing); splitcoast; and facebook. He seems to think it was splitcoast (from the various virus sweeps he did). Additionally, when I use my desktop (which is a mac/his is a pc), and am on splitcoast these virus warnings/your desktop is crashing/windows messages keep popping up. Now since I have a mac it's a little stronger at keeping the viruses away but I don't know why this keeps happening. I'm fearful to keep using it b/c of these things happening.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Like I said, it's only when I'm on here do I have these messages and problems.
Thanks!

I doubt it is a virus. You might be getting script warnings from some of the ads but I would highly doubt viruses. FB would be a much bigger threat than here.

alot of the times those windows pop up and that what they want you to do is to click on that link that says yes to download or do a sweep of the computer. that's happened to us on a few occasions until we had out I.T. guy and he did some major digging and found out that's what it is....he never found the "source" just knew that it was one of those sites or people that disguises the virus as one of those windows that occasional legitely(sp?) do pop up on your computer .....

i agree though, FB is a bigger threat if any then here.... ;)

i too doubt that it is SCS,
i was on the net one day (not here!) and i had a strange pop up telling me i was infected and to hurry and "click here to download". i quickly left the net and ran my Norton. nothign showed up. i called the Geek Squad and was told it was probably one of the new scams out there tryng to get me to buy a bogus product!

just be careful not to click on anything you dont recognise! exit whatever you are doing and run your program jsut for extra measure.

I had those messages showing up too & it was while I was checking email on yahoo. Hubby is my go to guy for computer issues & he scanned my laptop & found nothing. I agree about facebook being a bigger threat if in fact you do have any problems. He has told me not to "facebook" so I have never signed up.

I know several IT people who won't use Facebook because it is SO easy to get a virus from that site.

I have been on SCS since August of 2003 and have never received a virus from here! Ever!

Not quite that long for me, but ditto on never getting anything from here! Now my daughter, who is constantly on Facebook, has had viruses out the wazoo on a regular basis! Make sure you have excellent virus/malware protection if you are frequenting any social networking sites. Schedule your virus scanner to run every night while you are sleeping, and make sure your updates are up to date, LOL!

I pick up bad stuff from my yahoo mail too.
I had a couple of real virus attacks - trojan and others - and of course just the usual adware cookie junk. Thank goodness my AVG catches it all!

Just wanted to point out that if use any of the "applications" on Face Book, you are opening yourself up for virus' or worse. There is also a you tube video message going around face book for days now and if you receive a message from a friend saying to look at the YOU TUBE - don't do it! It is a virus. The game applications can be dangerous on facebook as well. I love face book - but am very wary of the applications on it.

Well, I appreciate the help but I haven't been on here since I posted this and as soon as I came on another window popped up www.gugle.com (I think that's what it is...I always just exit it when it pops up-it comes up everytime I'm on scs) and my hubby hasn't had any virus problems since his last sweep and I've been on facebook on his computer (but no more scs!)...I don't know...it's certainly odd...but like others said, I don't do the games/applications stuff on fb...I use it to touch base with family and I even have a page devoted to my classroom and haven't had any problems using or accessing either page. This one is a mystery!!!
