It seems to rip/tear the paper every time I try to cut something out ,whether it's a font or a shape - intricate or general. I thought it was the blade, so I installed a new one, but it still rips the paper.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? It makes me not want to use it (in fact, it's been put away in the closet because I'm so frustrated with it). Thank you in advance for any advise you can give me!
You might also try the speed setting...I sometimes have to change that along with the pressure to get it right! Needless to say I have gone through a lot of scraps. LOL! HTH!

I tried it again tonight, and had it on the slowest setting and changed the pressure setting, and it is still ripping the paper...
Hmmmm, I think i will contact ProvoCraft to see what they say.

look at the bottom of the blade. Sometimes you get paper stuck around the blade. You might also have an old mat. My friend had this problem. Always keep the speed at the lowest setting and use higher pressure settings for thick paper and lower for thin paper. I hope this helps.
You might want to try a different paper, also. I find that certain papers are much harder for my Cricut to cut than others - mine really didn't like the cheap Recollections cardstock I started it with, and when I switched paper I had much better results.

Especially the red recollections. Screwed up my blade every time. And if you switch blades but try to cut the same paper, it will just mess up that one too. I had the same problem a few months ago and posted for help. I reset my machine and played with the settings. I tried a million ideas, but it was the paper. I took the blade out of my machine and pushed the "top button" on the housing a few times to dislodge the little scraps of paper stuck inside. I kept having the same problems until I changed cardstock. Now I can cut the most intricate designs with no tearing. HTH
Yes, the paper can be the culprit. I have some red cardstock that came with a scrapbook I bought, and I just can't use it in my Cricut. It tears every time I try to use it, so I use it for other things now. Thin papers are also hit and miss for me, but I think I've got the settings right for that. I set everything on 3 with my Expression, and it cuts thin papers pretty well.
I like my cricut most times, but for the money paid for it, I think it should cut all types of papers regardless of what kind , or brand. If you have to use different settings, so be it, but I hate when i have to try 9 different papers to get the cut right! I have put it away for awhile, before I get upset with it.....just my 2 cents
I find that the paper that tends to have a lot of fibers (I mean that if I tear it, I see lots of fibers on the tear and it's less smooth) the machine has a lot of trouble with it. The really smooth paper works better for me.
