Do I need the cricut deep cutting blade?

I own an expression and want to make some decoration for my daughters 3rd birthday using poster board. Can anyone tell me if the poster board will cut in the expression and if I need the deep cutting blade ? The package does not tell me what the weight is of the poster board but it is very thin though. Any help and advice appreciated!

You could try using the multi-cut feature first. If that doesn't work, then get the deep blade.

I've cut poster board with the regular blade. Odie1 is right. You will need 2-3 cuts using the Multicut function, and it should work fine.

Theresa.....poster board is just the same as heavy cardstock....probably about a 110#. There is no reason it shouldn't cut with just the regular blade in the Expression.

I've used what is sold in AC Moore as poster paper/board to make a very large Mickey and Minnie (12X24 mat) and it cut just fine with the Expression and standard blade. If in doubt, just try it first. If you have a problem with it not cutting all the way through, use the Multi cut as previous poster says.

Can't hurt anything to just try! Be certain that you use a new sticky mat and blade so the paper adheres well and blade is sharp.

Wanted to thank everyone for their advice. I cut out my daughters first decoration today from the poster board I bought a while ago. The regular cut blade and multi-cut feature worked like a charm!

I already made spongebob squarepants and patrick from one pcs. of posterboard. They came out so cool! I am planning on making a few more of the characters to hang on my wall on the day of her party.
