DS bought it for me on Sunday for my B-day, i had a coupon so he got it at 50% off! an awesome price.
plus the small punch, brads and template and the big brad adapter.
havent had time to play yet but i did watch the cool DVD that came with it.
first thing i want to try is to cover brads with fabric.
what have you done with yours?
any tips or hints?
do you have the storage bag for it? like it or leave it?
I have it and I do use it. I have all the punches, which I think is really key to making the experience more enjoyable. I know I wouldn't use the iTop if I had to cut out the pieces of paper.
It helps to moisten thick paper and help get the folding started around the brad. You kind of control the folding first and then let the iTop do the rest.
I also put a dab of adhesive on the brad so the paper doesn't move while pressing. This is important when I'm centering a tiny image on the brad; not so important for an all-over pattern.
I don't have the bag. I have the brads, punches, large adapter, and iTop in a little plastic tote. I bought a lot of brads in bulk during a sale and want to keep everything together, so I need something larger than the bag.

Ive played with you and I like the concept of it..but it's not quite as easy as it looks.
I think with practice and patiences.....I will love it.
I think Ill like using pictures (using my scanner and scanning and then printing the picture on reg comptuer paper) for the brads especially.

have you watched the DVD yet? lots of cute samples and ideas on it...i got lots of eye rolls from the guys, so will have to watch again later when its just me LOL

I've been looking at these at Michael's and they look so much like the covered button sets that you could get for sewing years ago. Don't even know if they make them anymore for sewing. The I -Top is probably way easier with all its tools, punches, and templates, but I'm going to dig out the old button sets in my sewing stash, and try it with those first, as long as I already have those. I wonder if a plain brad would fit inside the button through the back plate. If not, it could be attached as an embellishment with a sticky dot. I'm on a mission now! I always have been one to do things the hard way. LOL! Wish me luck!
oooooh...let me know how that works, and what does the button tool look like? my mom may have one in her sewing trunk i could get and add to my collection!
you know, now that you mentioned it, i wonder if the button blanks would work in the I-top?
i need to make a fabric and notions run soon, so may have to check that as well!
OK, had to jump in on this one. AC Moore is discontinuing the I Top and all its accessoreis so everything is 50% off. I loaded up. There is a learning curve and they are a little "fiddly" but I found fabric and sticky back canvas make the best looking brads. See Tim Holtz blog for his use of them during his 12 tags series. For the paper ones, if you mist a paper towel (doubled) heavily and them press your cutout between the folds to dampen it first, it makes a smoother brad without the little pleats on the side. Also a thin coat of glue helps make them smooth. The mechanism is similar to the old button covering tools but you have the prongs on the brad when you're done. I decided to keep it because I think it has possibilities. There is a video on You Tube from Imaginesce about using the damp paper towel and she also rolls the finished brad on it's edge to sharpen the look up some.
