Default Disappointed with PTI ink

I love the stamps. My husband even ordered me many for Christmas. The cardstock is amazing. I bought all of the stuff needed to make these Christmas cards for our 70 customers, but I didn't end up using the ink. It was blotchy. I ended up using my clear stamp standby: Colorbox Chalk Inks. Does anyone else have the same problem?

It's a great card! I think that alot of people have had some issues with their ink pads. I thought they were coming out with a new formula/style? Maybe contact their customer service and explain your issue.

Your card is cute. I love PTI. The Stamps are the best as well as the cardstock. But I am with you on the ink. the old and new formula I don't care for. I use CTMH and have found that some of thier colors match PTI cardstock. (I am not a demo).

HTH,
Katie

I personally think companies like Stampin Up, PTI, etc. should get together with ClearSnap and have ClearSnap make their custom-colors. I would be buying a lot of ink then.

Thanks ladies for the compliments and for letting me know it isn't just me.

I think PTI posted something on Nichole's blog about them changing the company that makes the true match ink pads because so many people had reported quality issues with them. I don't remember the deets though.

The same people who own SU (the Gardners) also own ClearSnap. LOL~

I always stamp in VersaMark first and then in dye ink. It seems to help me get better coverage because the ink has something to "stick" to. You can also emboss this way is you'd like.

Really? I wonder why they don't offer their colors in chalk ink. They are such popular inks that it seems like a really smart move.

The Versa Mark idea is a smart one, but I just don't like that I have to use two inks to get what one ink should be able to do, if you know what I mean

Wow, you really stamp in 2 inks? That's dedication; good for you.

How do you get them to line up perfectly? Personally, I would find a way to mess that up very easily.

I thought she meant that she inked the stamp with versamark to make the stamp sticky and then inked it again with the dye ink.

first stamp in versamark then immediately stamp in the colored ink, then stamp the image on paper. i like this method too.. it works really well!

Really?

When she said "stamped" in one and then the other, I took it to mean "stamped," not inked. Stamping to me is to ink and then press on the permanent surface.

Maybe I misinterpreted what she meant by "stamped."

I do the same thing with "blotchy" die inks. Stamp into the Versamark, then into the ink pad, then onto the paper.

I have several of the PTI ink pads and quit using them almost immediately. It was frustrating because the paper colors were so yummy, but the ink just never worked right. I haven't even tried them in a long time.

Sorry! Yes I meant that I inked my stamp with VersaMark and then with dye ink and then stamped on the paper.

I think all that shoveling addled my brain, LOL~

I love all that is Papertrey but I will admit, their inks are my least favorite product from them. I'm not really a pigment ink kind of girl so this new formula is definitely not for me.
What I've become obsessed with are the Memento inks - my poor little cottage ivy ink pad is getting a workout overtime - I've been using that with my clear stamps and getting really nice images.
And their tuxedo black is great with copic and prismacolor markers.

I bought several of the PTI inkpads, and never use them. For me, it was a waste of a lot of money. Maybe I should contact them, and see if there is any help available.

Wow, I use my PTI inks all the time, especially the darker colors. I rarely have problems with blotchy images with the darker colors, and that's usually only when the stamp has never been used before and needs to be "conditioned." I will say that the lighter inks are a challenge, but with the new pigment inks, I'm pleased with how my images are turning out with the lighter pigment inks.

This is a perfect match hybrid ink. Is that the same thing as pigment?

Technically, the new pigment ink is a hybrid as well, but I'm guessing you probably have the older style inks, which are more dye-like. The new pigment inks leave more of a chalk-like finish to the image and are not blotchy. They take some practice to use, though, because you can sometimes get a little ink built up at the edges, which leaves the edges of the images a little darker or "smooshed" for lack of a better word. PTI is gradually phasing out all of the older hybrid inks as the old pads sell out of their store. Right now the following inks are the new pigment: Orange Zest, Terracotta Tile, Spring Moss, Spring Rain, Sweet Blush, Aqua Mist, Lemon Tart, Hibiscus Burst, and Raspberry Fizz. I may have missed one, but I think those are the ones that are now pigment. All the rest are still the old version of the ink. They started selling the new pigment inks a few months ago, but I can't remember which month, maybe September? Hope this helps! You can also check out the PTI forum on their website for more info.

Thanks. Mine is "new leaf," so it must still be the older style.

Yep, that is definitely one of the older inks. I have that one but haven't used it much. Sorry you're having such trouble with them!

I am really glad I checked out this thread. I have been thinking of buying some PTI products and it is good to know about the ink beforehand. I do hope that the can fix the problem. I love when cs/ ink and ribbon all match lol.

I'm so glad to hear it's not just me! I bought one PTI ink pad because I loved the Aqua Mist shade. I also bought coordinating paper and ribbon, but never could get a good stamped image with the ink. It is collecting dust and I never use it. A waste of money for me. :-(

Wow! I'm surprised! I have been very happy with my PTI ink. Funny thing is that I have all the colors in cubes except Pure Poppy because it doesn't come in a cube. Pure Poppy is the only one I'm not sure about for solid images. I've been wondering if I should try a re-inker for that one, but have decided to just wait for it to come in the new formula. And I REALLY, REALLY love the new formula. It's not at all as wet and messy as the SU Craft (pigment) inks.

I wonder if the difference is that, since I have cubes, I apply the ink to my stamps instead of putting the stamps on the pads, if that makes sense? I do think that would make a difference, especially for the new pigment formula.

I always ink my stamp by patting my stamp which lies on the table with the ink pad which is in my hand.

I love the Memento inks as well. I have all of the dewdrops. Versamagic is also on my short list of great inks. I am planning on selling off my SU pads. They just aren't doing it for me anymore.

I was considering purchasing the PTI pads since I like their CS colors so much, but now I will probably reconsider.

I was under the impression that Colorbox was purchased by the Gardner family, but is independent of SU. I could be incorrect since I am not a demo, but that is what I had heard.

It is independent. But like I said, it's owned by the Gardners, the same people who own SU. I just thought it was ironic that the poster mentioned that SU should switch to them as they are owned by the same people.

I have all the Palette inks (old formula)and some of the new ones. I am really disappointed with the new formula. It is too watery and it doesn't stamp well. I was hoping that they were going to fix the problem but I can see that I am not the only one to have problems. I have stopped buying PTI inks. Now, I mainly use Memento, brilliance, versamagic and versafine inks.
Maybe, they should stop selling their own ink or they should take some time to find a better ink formula. Honestly, I feel that they are releasing way too many products each month and there are a lot of problems with these matching colors (inks and buttons).

Are there problems with the PTI buttons? I am not crazy about their inks either (only have the dye ones) and have been thinking of purchasing their buttons to match the cardstocks? Emilia, you mentioned problems with the matching color inks and buttons.

I had an issue with the latest batch of Scarlet Jewel buttons. They are very purple-y (is that a word? LOL) instead of the deep, rich, vibrant scarlet that the first batch was.

In any case, I own all the colors and mutiple bags of some. They can vary (just like a yarn dye lot) but other than the Scarlet Jewel ones, they all coordinate very nicely with the cardstock, ink, and ribbon.

I dont have PTI ink but I do have the Palette Inks (hybrid ink) which a I understand it are much the same...I have had this problem with my pads only when one part of the pad starts to dry. Generally, just re-ink the pad back up and problem is solved. That may not fix everyones issue but worth a shot.

I only had problems with the lighter colored PTI dye inks, but I LOOOOOOOOOVE their new formula inks. The new formula inks say "Pigment Ink" under the color on their website. They haven't all been converted yet.

I don't care for pigment ink.. just because I hate cleaning it off since it leaves such as residue
I love Palette.. my fave. I don't own many PTI pads so I don't know if they are exactly the same. I usually use CTMH inks with all my clear stamps though.. they don't stain as much (I know, I have aesthetic issues!) and they come out clear. Hope all of you can get your problems rectified!!

I have all of the Palette cubes and the "old" style Perfect Match (Palette) cubes. I haven't tried the new formula yet.

Although I have several of their inks, I feel that their inks don't match up well with the cardstock so I have been using the Memento, VersaMagic and ColorBox inks and have found better matches that way for tone on tone looks. I do love their Fresh Snow and Vintage Cream inks though. I'm not into buttons much but I love all their other goodies!

I have some of the older PTI inks and was not a fan so I didn't buy many. I do have a couple of the new formulation and like them quite a bit. They are pigment, but not as wet as most pigment ink -- they dry rather quickly.

However, at the moment my greatest love ink wise is Memento. I really wish Memento came out with matching everything else. Or maybe not....(LOL)

Well, since you asked, I bought the red ones, and the matte ones transfer the ink all over my fingers.
