Default Cricut additions .... who bit the bullet?

We've been chatting about a new software here:
Forums at Splitcoaststampers

....but looking to hear WHO has bitten the bullet and bought the MTC (Make The Cut!) software.

The developer, Andy, is working non-stop to fill our requests to add so many more features. The next update is coming soon and we are all so excited. It is not available for the MAC yet, but the features being added are awesome!! Andy is really listening to our requests. What a breath of fresh air.

http://make-the-cut.com/forum/

Just wondering who, here, has bitten the bullet and opted in.....those of us who have will have a LOT to share in 2010.

I will continue to watch it. I just bought a Gypsy so I am not sure I really need this but never say never!

I have MTC and love it. I did more in the first 15 minutes with it than I did in the 8 months I've had SCAL. To me, MTC is more intuitive.

I can't wait for shadowing in MTC. When that's up & running, I'll be a VERY happy camper.

I have nothing against SCAL and I know some people are very loyal to the guy who designed it (Todd?), but I think it's great that there's a choice now. Different programs "click" for different people.

ETA Shadowing has been added. Whooopie!

Adding: I just read the MTC forum and the programing for shadowing is done. It'll be in the next update. Not sure when that'll be.

Not long, I hope!! I'm chomping at the bit for it. I use a lot of dingbat fonts and am a pretty simple scrapbooker. Just shadowing the dingbats that are attached to my titles makes for a lot of creativity.

Default MTC - SUPER program

I have had SCAL for over a year, worked in it OK, but when it came to working in Inkscape, I found it hard to work in, thus discouraging.
Took a look at MTC, downloaded it and within 30 minutes had made the purchase. I am very impressed with the forum -- being attended to by the programmer, Andy, who seems VERY responsive to users requests. I was going to purchase SCAL for a friend -- for Christmas -- and hadn't done it. Now I will purchase MTC for her instead. Definitely a better program as far as I can see! Much more user friendly!

I recently purchased SCAL2 a couple months ago and still attempting to learn how to use it in conjunction with Inkscape. I find Inkscape very frustrating and once the svg files are exported into SCAL, they are always larger than the "mat" and nearly impossible to shrink down to a useable size right off the bat. It took a lot to make the jump to SCAL because of the added expense when I have so many cartridges already. Please justify the extra expense of MTC so soon after purchasing SCAL2.....

Wow, it looks so cool. I have SCAL and really don't enjoy it much. It always freezes up on me, moving stuff around in the program is a pain, etc...

Same thing happens to me too. If I hold it and drag it around too long it will freeze and then I have to restart it.
I think Im going to bite the bullet and get MTC because I love the fact that I can break apart without going into inkscape. I get tired of asking people on the forum to convert stuff into svg files too.
I think as soon as the shadow update is done...Ill buy it!

I was playing around with some dingfonts last night in MTC and I'm so happy I bought the program!!! I'm going a little crazy with vinyl now.

I admit I didn't spend too much time with SCAL, but MTC is so much easier for me.

I'm going to have to invest in this I believe. I went over to the website, read the forum, got confused, left a couple of messages, got myself more confused, came back here.

I just got a Cricut original this year. I hated it the minute I took it out of the box because it wouldn't work right. Well, duh, someone needs to learn to read the instruction manual first....... Now I love my machine. But if this MTC will allow me to cut things that are on my computer....why think of the possibilities?

So what about digi stamps? Will it cut them?

Look at Tina's blog. These are the videos she posted on the yahoo MTC group:

Hope they help you to make an informed decision if you are on the fence about one program vs another.."

I bought SCAL about a month and a half ago -- I haven't had too much trouble with it - but I am interested to see where this new product leads. Now that I'll be using my Cricut a LOT more, it may be worth it...

I'll be watching this thread and looking for others regarding this.

I saw some photos where gals had imported their stamped images and created an SVG. From what I understand, you can import digistamps. They're just jpgs/gifs, right?

You are correct! I just tried it out using a jpg and a png file... This is awesome! I also bought this software just a few minutes after playing with it. I've been using SCAL and DS for 2 years... this software blows 'em both away.... :o)

The people I was reading about stamped their image, imported it, and had MTC cut it out (just the outline, using the blackout/layer feature) so they could color it. They wanted to avoid cutting their stamped images out by hand. I haven't tried it, but it sounds like a huge time-saver.

I'm not sure how you'd do special things like use embossing powder, but I'm intrigued by the idea of not hand-cutting around stamped images, especially when making multiples of something.

ETA: I wonder how tricky it would be to cut the paper first and then try to center the stamped image on it. Then it really would look stamped because, well, it really would be stamped (not computer-printed). For people like me who can't even get labels centered on the backs of UM stamps, though, trying to center an image over an already-cut bit of paper seems a daunting task! lol

Have you tried using removable adhesive and a stamp-a-ma-jig? When the image is a clear stamp, I skip using the SAMJ, but removable adhesive is perfect for just this kind of use!

I am SAMJ-challenged, but I am going to give it a try. I'm thinking that it may just be easier to stamp & hand-cut most of the time, but for batches it could be great to have the paper machine-cut.

Does anyone know when the update for MTC is supposed to happen? Looks like a good program to have, as I am unwilling to spend anywhere from $65- $100 for a cricuit cartridge (here in Canada).

Andy is hoping to have it ready on Friday, but with all things technical....it could be a little longer, I'm hoping for the 1st so I have the entire weekend to play.

I just bought the Gypsy about a month ago and really liking it! My poor laptop can't support the CDS-so the Gypsy has been great---just wondering if they might make these programs to work with the G???? THAT would be awesome!

I've definitely been looking at the program, but haven't made a decision to buy just yet. I wonder if he'd be willing to add support for a Bamboo tablet. That would push me over in nothing.

Log onto the Make the Cut forum and ask him. The next upgrade is coming out tomorrow or Saturday and he is adding so many wonderful ideas/suggestions from the people on the board. If he can do it, he will probably place your request on his list for another upgrade.

I think you will get an even better idea of what people are thinking of the software on that forum, as well.
