Smile Hi from 'snowy' Texas!

...mark this in the record books; it has snowed twice in 1 year here in Southeast Texas! We're less than 10 miles from the Gulf of Mexico - it NEVER snows here - this is proof there is no global warming!! My dogs didn't want to go outside, lol!;)

I wanted to introduce myself, Cindi here....been scrapbooking a while, but fairly new to stamping and soaking it all in. ;) I've found 3 new fav techniques just this past week - this group is going to be sooo much help. I've perused the galleries and some of the challenges - wow, there are some INCREDIBLY talented people here! Thanks for letting me join you!

Welcome from Dutchess County, NY (we got "flurries" that are sticking to the grass and cars but it's cold enough to freeze.) I've been to Texas three times (in summer months each visit) - near Corpus Christi. It's very pretty and is on our list of possible places to retire to (when we get old enough to do so). My DH and I do not like cold weather but various factors keep us in the NY area (where we both born and raised).

If you scroll down a bit in the Forums section you'll find one called Get It Together. Somewhere in that forum is a thread about past Texas gatherings but I'm sure if you post someone will help you find something coming up. I have driven 150+ miles several times to stamp with other SCSers (that are now real-life friends) in my state and it is so much fun to share our passion/addiction. I hope you get the same opportunity.

Meanwhile, just reading the resources, forums and looking at the galleries will be enough to keep you quite busy and excited.

Happy Crafting!

Hello,

I'm from Dallas, TX and I must agree with you that it NEVER snows! I am new here too.

Cindi and Tiffany ...

Not sure if this will be of interest to you but there is a gathering soon in san Antonio:

Forums at Splitcoaststampers

I found it looking for another thread about SCSers in Texas (no luck yet with that search).

Hi Cindi! welcome. our snow was about an inch, but then it froze after people drove on it. Unfortunately the city did not salt our hill and someone slid into my neighbor's mailbox (again!) I knew it was slippery when I came in last night so this morning I took the alternate route up the hill and around on the better maintained street.

Hi Tina!

anyway, just wanted to say join in the challenges and watch your ability grow. It's always fun to see how others interpret the same challenge.

I cannot believe it. I live in Nebraska and today is the first time it has snowed for the season so far. Amazing!

Thanks everyone for the welcome! and Tina thanks for the information. I'll check out that list - I wish San Antonio was closer....maybe there will be a meetup in Houston soon. Corpus is such a beautiful area; our beaches are in the "run-off" from the Mississippi River and the water is not as clear and the sand is tan, not white.....we love our beaches even still....they are a lot cleaner and closer to the road since Hurricane Ike, though...

Wow Diane, sounds like your snow-day was kinda scary! Fortunately it didn't ice badly here - we don't know how to drive in it!

Hi Tiffany - welcome! We'll learn together I hope!

I also have to agree with cpicou and tippyx3.

I live in Austin and it never snows here.

Although it did snow for almost an hour last Friday.

I agree - what's with this crazy weather in Texas? We are in Dallas and it's been crazy cold with even a morning where flurries came down!:p:p:p

I am a long time lurker, first couple of times poster...looking forward to getting to know everyone!

When it was snowing down there, it was 70 deg. up here when it should have been snowing! Global warming doesn't mean we won't still have crazy weather, it means the world as a whole is warming up. I know it's crazy, but they said the melting of the highest mountains and the polar caps is putting more moisture into the atmosphere, so we can have lots more precipitation than we did before. Only time will tell.

[QUOTE=cpicou;15661351]...this is proof there is no global warming!! QUOTE]

Yeah, right? I watched the Al Gore video about 2 years ago (and it was a couple years old then) where he predicted the melted ice from Antarctica would cause irreversible catastrophic flooding globally within 11 years; still waiting for evidence that has started, LOL. Oh well.

So welcome to SCS. Bet you find many more than 3 new techniques to love! Glad you're jumping and getting your feet wet.

Wow, I'll bet that was a surprise for y'all! Our normal temps for this time of year are lows in the 40's and highs in the 60's....but there have been many years when we've worn shorts on Christmas Day because it was in the mid-80's!

I am glad that you posted! Now let's you and I get working on posting some pics of things we have made, how about it?

I'm gearing my self up to participate in one of the challenges - wow, y'all are so incredible talented, I'm kind of intimidated! But, I know I have to start somewhere.....thanks again for letting me be a part of this group!

Cindi, I saw your post and had to grin---I grew up in Beaumont and we had several years of swimming on Christmas! Our snow in early December here in Houston stayed on some roofs overnight---an early Christmas miracle!

Cindi hi and a big welcome to you too. I guess that's pretty amazing, I've heard and seen the snow that's happening in the States right now. I love seeing the snowy pics. When we have 40 deg. C. days it somehow offers a cooling effect. Enjoy all there is here on S.C.S.

we had a swimming party once on New Years' Eve...so I know what you mean! And this year's snow did stay for a while the next day - wherever it was in the shade! LOL!

Janny, I would imagine that snow is a little more normal in Scotland than in southeast Texas, lol. Good thing we have cozy blankets and our computers, SCS to keep us going!

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone.
