I actually used a scrap of masonite paneling, I got a free sample at the hardware store, ask if they have any discontuned paneling samples, they just throw them away, other wise get the 1/8" thick stuff. I broke my cutting plates in the middle of a project once and didnt have a replacement so I cut masonite to use until I got a new set and it worked great. I wouldn't use them for sutting too often though incase they dull your dies.
