I don't know about dyeing them... If you buy white, you can probably color them with Copics, ,but I haven't tried that. I have embossed buttons to match something with the versamark and colored embossing powder. I have to use it twice (emboss it twice) to get really good coverage, but it worked. That way I can do any color I can find embossing powder in.
I've made glitter brads before. The sky is the limit on colors as long as you have the color of glitter you want to use. I make a puddle of liquid glue on a piece of wax paper, and dip them in the glue and then in the glitter. After the glitter is dry, I dip them in the glue again to seal the glitter in. I tried brushing the glue on, but it got too messy and dipping the brads in the glue worked just as well. It takes longer for them to dry than anything and is well worth the effort.
I have used dye ink pads, paint, glue and glitter, and embossing with power of choice, just to name a few..
These all work on White and Silver brads.

I've used small punch-outs, circles of course, and then glued them in place. Then I use crystal effects on them, which leaves them appearing 3-D. I've also just colored a circle where I wanted a brad and used the crystal effects. They look like brads and they match the other card colors exactly.

I've heat embossed them in the past. I don't even bother with the Versamark. As long as they're metal, you can heat & then dip them into the EP and the EP will stick to the hot metal. Then just heat them up once more to completely melt the EP to the brad.

good idea. I am going to have to try coloring brads. I will save a lot of time that I have spent trying to find the perfect colored brad.
I've coloured brads with EP, just like a poster above I didn't need Versamark, just heat. I have also coloured brads and buttons with Copics. Works great but you can expect streaks if you use Copics unless you have an airbrush system. You won't notice them much unless your colour is really dark and you might like the effect! Use a darker colour than you think you need either way.
